The teacher training will be held at Ananda Yoga & Detox Center in Koh Phangan, Thailand. Koh Phangan, a paradise in the Gulf of Thailand, is located about 100 kilometers from the coast of Southern Thailand in Surat Thani Province and about 15 kilometers from the famous resort island of Koh Samui. The island, with an area of 168 square kilometers, is mostly mountains and tropical forest, with coconut fields in the lowlands. Koh Phangan is home to approximately 14,000 people, mostly of Chinese descent, as well as Thais from all over Thailand who have moved there to start tourism-related businesses. Most residents live in Thong Sala, the main gateway into the island from Samui. Koh Phangan’s main exports are coconuts, with more than one million coconut exports to Bangkok each month. Fishing and tourism also play significant roles in the island’s economy. Around 95% of the population are Buddhists, and Buddhism plays a major role in daily life.
Tourist destinations on Koh Phangan include the Phaeng Waterfall National Park, the Chinese temple built after a woman’s dream in 1990, the largest Yang tree in Thailand, and Wat Khao Noi, the oldest temple on the island with a Buddha statue that is over 300 years old.
You’ll receive three healthy vegan/vegetarian meals along with unlimited herbal tea and filtered water in this package. Plus, you can dine at the onsite beachfront restaurant, The Shell Lounge.
The Shell Lounge restaurant takes pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone, offering a variety of plant-based and protein-based dishes. They serve both local Thai and Western cuisine, as well as fresh smoothies, coffee, homemade tea, wine, and beers. You’re sure to find something delicious to enjoy at The Shell Lounge.
You’ll get breakfast, lunch, and drinks included with your stay.
At Ananda Yoga & Detox Center, you can easily set up boat trips around the island or to other islands. Local fishermen have been using these waters for generations, and Koh Phangan still has plenty of fishermen heading out on their long tail boats every day.
The bay in front of Ananda is the perfect spot for kayaking and exploring the nearby beaches.
You can rent motorbikes to explore the island at your own pace and see everything it has to offer.
Rent mountain bikes at Ananda Yoga & Detox Center for a thrilling ride through jungle paths or simply as a means of transportation.
Snorkeling is a great way to see the beautiful underwater world around the island. Check out some fantastic snorkeling spots on the Northwest coast, like Koh Ma off Mae Haad beach.
Watch exciting Muay Thai events at one of Koh Phangan’s three stadiums in Thong Sala, Haad Rin, or Thong Nai Pan.
Head to Phaeng Waterfall National Park in Madua Wan village to see a beautiful waterfall near the entrance and trekking routes to mountaintop viewpoints, including the highest peak, Khao Ra.
Visit the gigantic Don Yang tree, measuring 14 meters in diameter and standing for centuries.
Explore the Chinese temple, built after a woman’s dream in 1990 where the Chinese Buddha instructed her to create a sacred place for the community.
Check out the oldest temple on Koh Phangan, Wat Khao Noi, with ancient structures and a Buddha statue over 300 years old.
Your package includes one massage during the training. You can also get other treatments and therapies on site for an extra fee. Options include hypnotherapy, numerology, Reiki healing, rebirthing breathwork, and many more.

February 28, 2024 at 12:00 amI had a blast at the retreat! The classes were awesome, the food was delicious, and getting a daily massage was such a nice treat.

February 7, 2024 at 12:00 amThe only downside is the direct street in front of the door and on some evenings the music from the surrounding bars. But with good earplugs, that’s manageable too. The facility is located in a small park with swings and various seating options to relax. Effort is put into all areas and the staff are all very friendly. My bungalow was small and cozy with a hammock on the porch. It’s not the newest, but it’s absolutely sufficient and comfortable. The yoga teachers were all great, with Sarah, Emma, and Valerie being my favorites. There are plenty of opportunities every day to try different types of yoga and you can plan your day yourself. The Shell Lounge across the street is cozy right by the sea, where you can treat yourself to delicious shakes and food.

January 22, 2024 at 12:00 amThe Garden Rooms sit close to a bustling street and noisy bars – so make sure to bring ear plugs!
Helpful ReviewIt’s important to know more about the workshops before signing up – just titles won’t cut it. I found myself in a class where the teacher pushed us to believe in Karma as the only path to wholeness, which was unexpected and not something I’d recommend. On the other hand, the yoga sessions were top-notch, with knowledgeable teachers leading the way. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and accommodating. And sunset views each night made dinner extra magical.

January 8, 2024 at 12:00 amThe retreat cost could be on the high end, but it’s comparable to other options on the island. It would have been nice to have a clearer intro about the food, like what’s included and what costs extra. Overall, everything was good! You can attend sessions at your own pace, which is awesome. Plus, with a private room, you get a free daily massage. The food choices were amazing and the restaurant was fantastic!

December 26, 2023 at 12:00 amI had to pay for my taxi to the nearest village on my way back. They wouldn’t let me stay another night at the dormitory before I headed home, even though there was space available. They charged me for my laundry too, which was annoying. The retreat was so expensive and the lessons were almost identical, one after the other. It was hard to stay awake during all the relaxation and meditation sessions. I couldn’t keep up with the lessons sometimes. They had a Christmas party and a Women’s Circle event. The Zen Beach was great for swimming. I had to complain in order to get compensated.

November 7, 2023 at 12:00 amAnanda offers a fantastic opportunity to deepen your yoga knowledge or start from scratch. I was comfortable, learned a lot, and rejuvenated. What I loved was the flexibility to structure your day as you like, with plenty of yoga and meditation options. While I didn’t do teacher training, I can see it being perfect here! It’s great value for your money. The food at “The Shell” was amazing, and the staff was so caring. The yoga instructors were outstanding, and workshops were a bonus. Luxury was the pool, massages, steam bath, and ice bath! Thanks for a great week. I’ll be back someday, and I’ve already recommended Ananda to all my friends and travel buddies! 🙂

August 10, 2023 at 12:00 amWe stayed at Ananda Yoga and Detox Center for 5 days and had an amazing time. The street and some restaurants nearby can be noisy at times, but we loved every second of our yoga retreat. We got so much more than we expected with plenty of yoga classes and workshops to choose from. The teachers were awesome and the food at the café was delicious. We highly recommend Ananda Yoga and Detox Center for the full yoga experience on Koh Phangan. We would definitely come back! Thanks for everything!

June 28, 2023 at 12:00 am– We would have liked to receive a better orientation to the program, as beginners felt a bit lost about which courses to take and what to expect from them.
Helpful Review– Unfortunately, the rooms were very dark, so we didn’t like spending time there.
– The staff was very friendly, accommodating, and helpful.
– There is a wide range of activities.
– There are many cozy places to relax, especially the restaurant right on the beach.
– The food is super delicious and there is a wide selection.
– The daily massages are a dream.
– They always pay attention to cleanliness, especially with the yoga equipment, which is in very good condition.

May 15, 2023 at 12:00 amWe found the stay at the accommodation to be very relaxing and recharging after traveling through Thailand for 2 weeks. The rooms were clean and nice. The yoga program was extensive with many different levels and methods of instruction from various teachers. Meeting Sabina, who taught us the basics of yoga positions, was a proud moment for us. We also appreciated Paola for her cheerful attitude and friendly nature. Overall, it was a pleasure and we would definitely recommend it to others.

January 30, 2023 at 12:00 amThe rooms at the resort were pretty good by Thailand standards, a little musty in the rainy season. They met all my needs for accommodation, but they weren’t anything fancy. I found myself wishing for a better beach, but it turns out those are about a 20-minute drive to the north of the resort. I felt like I got more than my money’s worth with the yoga teacher training at Ananda Yoga and Detox. Valerie has a wealth of knowledge and a love for yoga that shines through in her teaching. I was impressed by her ability to run the program and resort while still connecting with each of her students. Alona is dedicated to her students’ yoga practice and clearly cares deeply for others. Britt leads with a laid-back and approachable nature, and she loves to build others up. I left feeling confident in my ability to successfully lead yoga classes.

January 20, 2023 at 12:00 amThere wasn’t much to improve, just one tiny thing – one of the female staff at the Shell lounge seemed a bit impolite and didn’t seem to enjoy her job. She didn’t smile, make eye contact, or give many answers when asked about the food. On the bright side, all the instructors were really good. The food was delicious and the surroundings, like the garden and pool, were nice.

December 27, 2022 at 12:00 amI absolutely loved it! The training was fantastic, I was able to improve my own practice and learn a lot about teaching yoga. The teachers were well-trained and they could explain the material really well. The location was amazing, right by the beach with a view of the sunset. And the food was also really good! I looked forward to every meal, it was always fresh, healthy, and varied. They even accommodated my vegan diet and I always got delicious food 🙂

November 7, 2022 at 12:00 amI came to experience proper yoga, but I ended up at more of a resort with optional yoga classes. If you’re looking for a traditional retreat, this might not be the place for you despite the title. Five out of five Ashtanga Mysore classes were cancelled without a replacement teacher, which was disappointing for advanced students like myself. No compensation was offered, leaving me quite disappointed.
The check-in process was confusing with minimal instructions since the manager wasn’t on-site. My room had spider webs, an unmade bed, and at the end of my stay, they didn’t even refill the toilet paper. The lack of attention to detail was surprising considering how empty the resort seemed.
The staff were a mixed bag – some were friendly, while others seemed annoyed and couldn’t even be bothered to say hello. The service at the restaurant was kind but slow, with frequent mix-ups and forgotten orders during my three meals a day for six days straight.
The massages included in the package were hit or miss. During my fifth massage, the therapist accidentally hurt my neck. Despite requesting a different therapist the next day, the promise was made but not fulfilled. I was stuck with the same therapist for two more sessions, leading me to consider skipping altogether.
Overall, it wasn’t a terrible stay, but if you’re looking for a proper yoga retreat, this might not be worth the money. The resort is nice with basic rooms that could use a bit of cleaning. However, the welcoming atmosphere, two shalas, herbal sauna, beautiful pool, and various chill-out areas are a plus. The restaurant offers delicious food and the area is peaceful, making it ideal to have a scooter for getting around.

October 13, 2022 at 12:00 amThere was literally nothing wrong with this place – it was absolutely wonderful! The staff were all so helpful and accommodating. I tried the detox and felt amazing afterwards. Surprisingly, it was easier than I expected because they keep you so busy that you don’t even think about food. I loved staying in the elevated bungalow and I will definitely be back for more visits. Thanks a lot guys!

December 28, 2019 at 12:00 amThe yoga retreat seemed a bit expensive compared to other options on the island when you break down the cost of yoga, food, and accommodation. But overall, it was worth every penny for the breakthroughs I had, the amazing people I met, the beautiful location, the positive vibes, and the memories I made. It would be great if the evening yoga session ended before sunset so we could all enjoy watching the sunset on the beach. The staff is dedicated to those in the detox program, and the experienced yoga instructors create a great environment.

April 2, 2018 at 12:00 amI expected the rooms to be better, but they’re actually really nice for Koh Phangnan standards. Ananda’s teacher training creates a great bonding experience where Yogis see the best in each other. This program isn’t as strict as a Sivananda Ashram, but there’s a lot of information to learn if you’re willing to put in the work. The food, pool, steam room, and staff are all great. This program isn’t just about poses, it’s well thought out and provides a wealth of information that will help you teach Yoga effectively in every aspect.

June 13, 2017 at 12:00 amWe need to improve all additional classes like pranayama, meditation, anatomy, and special classes (like pregnancy). The room cleaning was not up to par. The food was tasty but there wasn’t much variety, which is disappointing for a long-term stay. These issues are a downside of the low-cost TTC. Overall, it was as expected, but I was hoping for a more in-depth experience with all yoga topics. The yoga classes and alignment were top-notch, though.
