The only downside is the direct road in front of the door and the music from the surrounding bars on some evenings. But with good earplugs, that’s manageable too. The facility is located in a small park with swings and various seating areas to relax. They put a lot of effort into every aspect and the staff is all very friendly.
My bungalow was small and cozy with a hammock on the veranda. It’s not the newest, but it’s absolutely sufficient and comfortable. The yoga teachers were all fantastic, my favorites being Sarah, Emma & Valerie. There are plenty of opportunities every day to try out different types of yoga and you can plan your day however you like. The Shell Lounge across the street is cozy right on the sea, where you can treat yourself to delicious shakes and food.

The Garden Rooms are located close to a very busy street and some loud bars, so you’ll definitely want to bring ear plugs.
It would be helpful to have more detailed explanations of what each workshop entails – just having the titles isn’t enough.
I attended a workshop where the teacher unexpectedly challenged our questions, insisting that believing in Karma is the key to wholeness – not what I signed up for and wouldn’t recommend.
The yoga classes were fantastic, and the teachers were knowledgeable and skilled. The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Plus, the sunset views made dinner extra special.

The retreat costs may be on the high end, but they are comparable to other options on the island. It would have been helpful to have a clearer introduction to the food offerings, including what’s included and what’s extra. Overall, everything was good 🙂 You have the flexibility to choose which sessions to attend at your own pace, which is great. Plus, with the individual room, you also get a daily free massage. The food choices were fantastic, and I especially enjoyed dining at the restaurant.

I had to pay for my taxi to the nearest village on my way back. They wouldn’t let me stay another night at the dormitory before I went back home, even though there was space available. They charged me for laundry, and the retreat was very expensive. The lessons were almost identical, and there was too much relaxation meditation. Sometimes I couldn’t follow the lessons. There was a Christmas party, a women’s circle, and we went swimming at Zen Beach. I had to complain to get any compensation.

Ananda offers a fantastic opportunity to deepen your yoga knowledge or start from scratch. I felt comfortable, learned a lot, and had a chance to rejuvenate during my stay. What I loved most was the freedom to structure my day as I wanted, with a wide variety of yoga and meditation classes to choose from. Although I didn’t do yoga teacher training, I can easily see how this would be the perfect place for it – great value for your money! The food at “The Shell” on the beach was excellent, and the staff always took great care of us. The yoga instructors were all outstanding, and the workshops offered a chance to delve deeper into practice. The pool, massages, steam bath, and ice bath were pure luxury! Thanks to everyone for an amazing week – I’ll definitely be back! I’ve already recommended Ananda to all my friends and travel companions! 🙂

We absolutely loved our yoga retreat at Ananda! The street and a few restaurants nearby can be noisy at times, but it didn’t bother us at all. We stayed for 5 days and received way more than we anticipated. The variety of yoga classes and workshops to choose from were great, and the teachers were fantastic. The food at the shell was delicious, and the staff was lovely. We highly recommend Ananda Yoga and Detox Center for a complete yoga experience and good vibes on Koh Phangan. We’d definitely return. Thanks for everything!

We found it very relaxing and recharging to stay at the accommodation after two weeks of traveling through Thailand. The place was clean and nice. The yoga program was extensive, with many different teachers offering various levels and methods of instruction. Meeting Sabina, who taught us basic yoga positions, was a highlight for us. Big thanks to Paola for her cheerful demeanor and friendly attitude. It was a pleasure staying here and we will definitely recommend it to others.

The rooms at the resort were pretty good for Thailand standards, a little musty during the rainy season. They weren’t anything fancy but they had everything I needed. I did wish for a better beach nearby, but I found out they were a 20-minute drive north of the resort.

I felt like I got my money’s worth with the yoga teacher training at Ananda Yoga and Detox. Valerie has a wealth of knowledge and a love for yoga that shines through in her teaching. I was impressed by how she managed to run the program and connect with each student. Alona showed dedication to her students’ yoga practice and genuinely cared for others. Britt, with her laid-back and approachable nature, was great at building others up. Thanks to them, I left feeling confident in leading yoga classes successfully.

Maybe there’s just one tiny thing that could be improved – one of the female staff members at the Shell lounge didn’t seem very polite and seemed like she wasn’t enjoying her job. She didn’t smile, make eye contact, or provide many answers when we asked about the food. But on the bright side, the instructors were all really great. The food was delicious, and the surroundings, like the garden and pool, were lovely.

I absolutely loved it 🙂 The training was fantastic, I was able to improve my own practice and learn a lot about teaching yoga. The teachers were well-trained and could deliver the material effectively. The location was amazing, right by the beach with a view of the sunset. And the food was so delicious! I looked forward to every meal and it was always fresh, healthy, and varied. They accommodated my vegan diet and I always got really tasty food 🙂

I wanted a proper yoga experience but didn’t quite get it here. It’s more like a resort with yoga classes as an option, but don’t expect a traditional retreat like the title suggests. Unfortunately, 5 out of 5 ashtanga mysore classes were canceled with no replacement teacher, which was a letdown for more advanced students like me. No compensation offered either. Overall, I was pretty disappointed.

Check in was confusing with minimal instructions since the manager wasn’t around. My room had spider webs, the bed wasn’t made when I arrived, and they didn’t even refill the toilet paper towards the end of my stay. Surprising for a seemingly empty resort.

The staff was a mixed bag – some friendly, some seemed annoyed. Service in the restaurant was kind but slow, and they often forgot or mixed up orders during my 6-day stay of eating there 3 times a day.

The massages included in the package were hit or miss. On my fifth massage, the lady hurt my neck and despite asking twice for a different therapist, it never happened. I had to endure two more sessions with her or skip them altogether.

Overall, not a terrible stay but definitely not a full-fledged yoga retreat. The place is nice, with basic but clean rooms, two shalas, a herbal sauna, a lovely pool, and plenty of chill-out spots. The restaurant serves tasty food and the area is peaceful, making it ideal for exploring on a scooter.

There was nothing at all, which was absolutely wonderful about this place! Everyone on staff was so helpful and accommodating! I did the detox and felt so good afterwards. It was a lot easier than I thought because they keep you so busy, you don’t have time to think about food! I really enjoyed my stay in the elevated bungalow and I will without a doubt be back for round two, three, four and more! Thanks so much guys!

The yoga retreat felt a bit pricey compared to other options on the island if you break down the cost of yoga, food, and accommodations. However, it ended up being worth every penny because of the breakthroughs I had, the awesome people I met, the beautiful location, the chill vibe, and the unforgettable memories.

One suggestion would be to wrap up the evening yoga session before the sun sets so everyone can catch a glimpse of the sunset on the beach. All in all, the staff was dedicated to those in the detox program, and the yoga instructors were top-notch with their experience. The people were amazing, the location was excellent, the environment was really nice, and the vibes were good.

I thought the rooms would be better, but for Koh Phangnan standards, they’re actually really nice. Ananda’s teacher training creates a great bonding experience where Yogis see the best in each other. This program isn’t as strict as a Sivananda Ashram, but there’s a lot of information to learn if you’re willing to put in the work. The food is great, the pool is great, the steam room is great, and the staff is great. This program isn’t just about poses – it’s well thought out and will give you a ton of useful information for teaching Yoga effectively.

We need to improve on all the extra classes like pranayama, meditation, anatomy, and special classes like pregnancy. The room cleaning was not up to par. The food was good, but it lacked variety for such a long stay, which is disappointing. These issues show the downside of a low-cost TTC. Overall, it was as expected, but I was hoping for a more thorough experience with all aspects of yoga. The yoga classes and alignment were top-notch.
