March 3, 2024 at 12:00 amSerenity is a fantastic place to stay. It’s conveniently located and serves up delicious, healthy food. The staff is incredibly friendly and always makes you feel welcome. They really took care of me when I got sick and helped me get back on my feet quickly. The Yoga classes they offer are amazing too, I always had a great time in every class I joined. Thank you for everything. I had a great time and will definitely be back. I highly recommend it!

February 17, 2024 at 12:00 amI originally stayed in a single bedroom with a fan, and it was way too hot. The “window” looked out onto the shared indoor bathroom, so there was no way to get some fresh air. After enduring 9 hot nights, a room with air conditioning became available, so I made the switch. There were construction works going on right behind the wall of my room all day, every day, until the end of my stay. I couldn’t enjoy my room (and the AC) during the day because the noise from the machines was unbearable. I had to shower with earplugs in. The workers were constantly walking through my small terrace, with one chair being blocked off to hang a sign that read “Thank you for your understanding of the inconvenience caused by the construction.” There were other issues that bothered me, such as the springs in the mattress, low water pressure in the shower, hot water lasting only 3 minutes, towels in poor condition that didn’t smell fresh at all, and the flooding in my room every morning after a night of rain. Instead of fixing the problem, I was asked through email to put all my belongings up high. If I had a chance to do it again, I would only purchase the yoga pass and stay elsewhere. PS: I stayed in the Yang room. The pool was small but very peaceful, surrounded by greenery. The yoga classes were really good. It was great to have the monthly pass and decide day by day which classes to attend. The staff were extremely kind and helpful, from the reception to the restaurant, security, gardeners, housekeeping staff… thanks to them for everything! Very close to the beach, on a quiet street. Very pleasant.

February 5, 2024 at 12:00 amHonestly, absolutely nothing beats Serenity. It’s a truly magical place. The atmosphere there is peaceful, soft, and bright. From the employees to the residents, everyone exudes a true gentleness.
I had an absolutely perfect week there. The yoga classes were interesting, spiritual, and challenging all at once, with teachers who cared about everyone’s well-being and created a true connection and interaction. There were plenty of classes available, catering to everyone’s preferences.
The breakfast was delicious and different every morning, with fresh and high-quality ingredients. I also had dinner at the Guest House, and the cuisine was truly top-notch.
The garden is a paradise, despite being close to the bustling life of Canggu. It feels like being in the jungle, lush and colorful, with local wildlife like squirrels, birds, and geckos.
The spa and services offered are of impeccable quality, with staff who are attentive and incredibly gentle.
Lastly, the Guest House’s location is ideal, just steps away from the beach and fabulous sunsets, and close to all necessary shops and services.
I felt at home at Serenity. I will definitely be going back.
A huge thank you to everyone for this amazing stay.

January 19, 2024 at 12:00 amI didn’t like that they allow people to join class after it started. So, people who are late (sometimes really like 15 min or more) try to fit somewhere between mats and it’s very disturbing. I find it disrespectful towards yoga instructors and all the people in class. Most places I’ve been to don’t allow it. I think this could be a rule. I really enjoyed being there. The yoga instructors are amazing. I had yoga with Diaz, Qino, and Yogi, and it was challenging but fun. Their energy is great, and they are so friendly. The staff was also very friendly, and the place was beautiful in my opinion, with a lot of plants around the pool.

December 20, 2023 at 12:00 amI found the best option in Canggu among so many choices! The staff there is absolutely amazing, they are incredibly friendly and hard-working. They clean the accommodations every day, making the beds and providing fresh towels, even in the dorms. The yoga classes have a great selection and the instructors are extremely talented. The pool and lounge chairs create a true community vibe. I stayed there for 12 nights and hardly left, except to take a short walk to the beach. I would definitely love to come back again!

October 18, 2023 at 12:00 amAcross the road, they were doing some construction, which kind of interrupted the peacefulness a bit, but it didn’t completely ruin the experience. I absolutely adore that place! It genuinely has such a tranquil atmosphere. The food there is incredibly nourishing, delicious, and reasonably priced. The yoga classes offer a great variety, with exceptionally professional teachers, and all the staff members are just delightful. October 13, 2023 at 12:00 amThe noise coming from the nearby bars wasn’t really a problem in the end, as we were still able to sleep. The warmth and kindness that this place emits is amazing.
It’s a haven of peace for me. I preferred staying in the dorms to meet more people. The vegan meals, permaculture, staff, and property were all great. I walked around barefoot all the time.
The beach and shops being close by was a plus. The yoga teachers are very professional and knowledgeable, especially Kemie, with whom I took several inversion classes. They are all insightful.
The yoga rooms were nice. The SPA was a relaxation haven with massage services. The pool and the fruit and medicinal trees were great additions.
Thanks to the whole team. See you soon!

October 4, 2023 at 12:00 amI wasn’t a big fan of Canggu, but that’s not the center’s fault. Just make sure to book a room with a private bathroom if you want some privacy. The single rooms without a bathroom are cheaper, but they’re tiny and made me feel claustrophobic. The staff is awesome and they really try to be eco-friendly, support local businesses, and serve organic food. The restaurant and yoga classes are fantastic. If you’re into staying in dorms and meeting new people, they’re spacious and cool. Overall, it was a great experience, especially if you’re into surfing since the spot is really close.

August 27, 2023 at 12:00 amSome places, such as the bathrooms and yogi dorm, may require a thorough floor cleaning and some handy-fixing for things like showers. The staff at Serenity is amazing – always wearing a smile, welcoming, and eager to assist. The yoga classes are fantastic, taught by highly skilled teachers. You won’t be disappointed with the food at Alkaline, their restaurant. And let me tell you, the chocolate cake there is to die for – absolutely the best. The overall atmosphere at Serenity is just so wonderful, that many people who initially planned to stay for only a few days ended up prolonging their visit or returning because they simply loved it. June 14, 2023 at 12:00 amThe noise around the premises is the only downside, but it’s not really their fault. We have to mention that there is a lot of construction going on, so some classes can get noisy. Plus, if you’re staying at Seabreeze, there are roosters right outside, which can be bothersome if you’re a light sleeper. April 27, 2023 at 12:00 amWe spent a whole month in Serenity and we really wished we could have stayed even longer. During our time there, we tried out almost all of the yoga classes and we absolutely loved all of the teachers and the wide variety of practices they offered. The pool area was also perfect for relaxing, and the resort staff were incredibly friendly and attentive to our needs.
However, there were a couple of downsides to Serenity. Some of the private rooms lacked comfort, and we actually tried out four different rooms, all of which had uncomfortable mattresses. It got so bad that we would wake up during the night with back pain. One room to avoid at all costs is the Tarzan room, which didn’t have air conditioning or much privacy. It also seemed to gather smoke from nearby fires, and even the resort staff would sometimes smoke us out in the mornings when they were boiling water for the restaurant. We did let them know about it, and they stopped, which was really nice of them. However, there are also other people in the neighborhood who burn garbage and rice fields, so it’s a good idea to stay away from that room altogether.
On a positive note, the Alkaline restaurant at the resort was pretty good. The prices were reasonable and the food was really healthy. The breakfast buffet was decent, but for just a little bit more money, you can find better food nearby.
Overall, our experience at Serenity was great and we would definitely go back if given the chance.

The bed is comfy and it’s enclosed with curtains and a mosquito net. The room is also pretty dark, even though it’s only halfway outside! They even make your bed nicely every morning. The breakfast buffet is amazing! So many different vegan options to try: homemade bread slices with peanut butter/jam, fruit, a different special dish every time (like pumpkin or chickpea soup), and coffee, tea, milk, and juices! The homemade peanut butter and jam are so delicious!!! The restaurant attached to the place also has tasty vegan options at a good price.

March 3, 2023 at 12:00 amOther teachers are also good, but they don’t adjust students. I went to Kemi’s class to learn inversion, but she’s not really teaching it step by step. Instead, she just told me “if you’re not gonna try, you won’t be able to do it.” However, I won’t attempt inversions without any assistance because I might injure myself. January 19, 2023 at 12:00 amMake sure to do some research about Canggu before you book a stay there. I made the mistake of not doing it and it wasn’t what I expected. Canggu has been taken over by westerners and partygoers. Most of the businesses are owned by foreigners now. However, if you’re into partying and want to see lots of surfers, then Canggu is the place to be.
The room I booked was small, with just a single bed, no desk, and one dresser. It had two windows – one facing the bathroom/shower area and the other facing the alley where people were smoking, even though it was supposed to be a smoke-free resort. It was inconvenient because I could hear people coming and going from the bathroom/shower and sometimes even smell cigarettes in my room.
The wifi didn’t reach my room at all, making it impossible to make video calls or stream anything online. Other rooms didn’t seem to have this issue though. Not great for a 30-day yoga retreat.
After a couple of nights, I asked if I could change rooms or pay for an upgrade, but they said they were fully booked and couldn’t accommodate my request.
I ended up canceling my stay after the first week and leaving Canggu. On a positive note, the yoga classes at the facility were amazing. The teachers were talented, knowledgeable, and great communicators. I highly recommend them. The staff at the center were also lovely and added a positive vibe to the environment. The pool area was beautiful, although there weren’t many places to sunbathe. The pool itself was rarely crowded though. I also had a great Balinese massage at the spa center next to the pool. The prices were reasonable considering the quality and location.
Overall, I would definitely do yoga again at this facility, but unfortunately, my accommodation experience wasn’t the best.

March 30, 2020 at 12:00 amIt was my first time in Bali and overall, I was mostly disappointed by the town of Canggu, which is very touristy with a superficial “Instagram” vibe. Basically, everything is done for tourists so if you’re looking for something authentic, I don’t recommend this town. Pollution is also very present, which can make the sea dirty on rainy days.
As for Serenity, the dormitory where I stayed was clean (cleaned every day) and decent, although there were insects and especially crabs, which was a bit unpleasant but not too bad. Once we talked to the staff about it, they did everything to fix the issue.
The biggest negative point for me was the health situation. From January to March 2020, many people got sick, including me. We thought a bacteria (possibly in the water) was causing the fever, diarrhea, and vomiting that we experienced. However, we don’t know much more about it, but it was difficult for many other tourists staying at Serenity.
However, I don’t blame the staff at Serenity, who must have been bothered by this issue as well. For my first solo trip, I decided to go to a center that offers yoga classes to not be alone in a new country and have the opportunity to deepen my practice. I’m not disappointed that I chose Serenity! The place itself is gorgeous with a beautiful pool, the staff is always smiling and attentive, the teachers are excellent, and the vegan food is pretty good. The people I met there were all in a positive and open mood, which made it easy to make connections and experience unforgettable moments. A big thank you for the three Balinese massages included with the one-month package.
I recommend Serenity, and just for the kindness of the teachers and staff, I would go back even though Canggu wasn’t a favorite town for me.

March 20, 2020 at 12:00 amGuests sometimes left the shared bathroom facilities unclean, specifically the toilet seats. However, it was solely because of their lack of consideration. One of the instructors, despite being asked to give me privacy during my practice, took the tokens at the beginning of class and ignored my request. The accommodations provided were simple and eco-friendly. The staff, on the other hand, were incredibly helpful and kind! I must say, the vegan breakfast buffet was simply amazing. The pool area had a tranquil ambiance. As for the yoga classes, they were good. Most of the instructors focused more on a modern style of yoga, emphasizing movement. However, some of them integrated a traditional practice into their movement-based teachings. Overall, there was a class and teacher to suit everyone’s preferences. Additionally, the location was extremely convenient, as it was a short distance away from a fantastic surf spot and within walking distance of great restaurants. I definitely recommend it!

March 15, 2020 at 12:00 amWe couldn’t find a key to use in our dorm room. The bathrooms weren’t cleaned well. The beds were really hard. If you sleep on the bottom bunk, expect centipedes to crawl on you during the night. It’s so damp here that you never feel clean or dry unless you leave the dorm. Unfortunately, the food made people sick, so I didn’t have the breakfast and ate somewhere else. Maybe it was just my dorm that had these issues, as the others seemed fine. The yoga sessions were a lot of fun, and the teachers were extremely enjoyable and helpful, especially for beginners. The pool is nice. The location is great because it’s a 10-minute walk to the main area, so it’s hidden and quiet. The staff is lovely and accommodating. When we had no hot water, they fixed it immediately after I mentioned it. It’s a wonderful place to meet people, and the staff and security are available 24/7.

March 14, 2020 at 12:00 amI left the guesthouse feeling slightly disheartened because someone stole my treasured bracelet, as well as my towel and bikini that were drying on a rack. The staff did all they could to help, taking down my name and room number in case the items turned up, and I’m very grateful for that. However, I still can’t help but feel a bit sour about the situation.
The staff at the guesthouse were really friendly, and they offered a 2-minute shuttle from S1 to S2 whenever I needed it, instead of having to walk for 10 minutes in the dark. The food provided was amazing and really good value for the price. The pool was absolutely perfect, and I thoroughly enjoyed every yoga class (even though it left me with aches everywhere, haha!).
I want to say thank you to Serenity for giving me such a great holiday experience.

March 10, 2020 at 12:00 amIn Serenity 2, the roosters were very loud (louder than expected) and the bathroom smelled at times. Construction was taking place in front of the main building, which was also noisy. In my opinion, the dorms here (Serenity 1) were not as cozy as in Serenity 2. However, the staff was very kind, helpful, and accommodating. The food was good, the yoga classes were mostly enjoyable, and the location was great. Additionally, the pool was very beautiful, and I felt comfortable overall 🙂
Although there is no air conditioning in Serenity 2, there is a personal fan for each bed. In both buildings, mosquito nets are attached to all the beds – which is a big positive.

March 8, 2020 at 12:00 amThe housing in Serenity 2 is far from block 1 and not as well furnished as the housing in Serenity 1. Our air conditioning broke down and it took 5 days for it to be repaired, making the temperature unbearable.
Also, I made my reservation on bookyogaretreat, which advertised 30 unlimited days of yoga classes, but I still had to pay for the classes. That’s not fair for the price I paid.

February 17, 2020 at 12:00 amThe restaurant at the piscine is a total disaster! The banana bread tastes like play-dough, and if you don’t want to be sick for 4 days like me and many other people at the hotel (we all got sick at the same time, oddly enough), avoid the restaurant and eat outside for much better and cheaper food.
Helpful ReviewThe breakfast was tasteless. We knew it was vegan, but everything had no flavor. When they ran out of pineapple jam and we asked for more because we didn’t like papaya, they said it wasn’t possible because they had to finish the papaya.
We didn’t eat lunch or dinner in the restaurant, so when we asked for two simple spoons, they couldn’t lend them to us. We paid 120 euros for a week for the room and yoga, but unlimited yoga for a week only costs 60 euros. We thought the room (or rather, the bed in a dorm) was definitely not worth 10 euros per night.
The staff was not very welcoming. There wasn’t really a nice place to relax if you didn’t consume at the restaurant. It’s a shame because we were excited to try out the yoga experience in Canggu. The aerial yoga class was great though.
The location was convenient. The room and common areas were clean.

February 12, 2020 at 12:00 amBreakfasts at the resort were just so boring and lacked any kind of imagination. It was the same old thing every single day and to make matters worse, the quality was really low. They seriously need to step up their game when it comes to hygiene standards. And let me tell you, having stinky dogs roaming around the restaurant is definitely not a smart move!
On the bright side, the yoga teaching and facilities at the resort were absolutely excellent. I can’t complain about that! As for the accommodation, it was fair considering the price. Now, when it comes to the food, it was alright, but I have to be honest, the quality of the breakfasts went downhill as time went on.
Here’s the real kicker though – there were a lot of sick people at the resort, and every single one of them claimed it was because of the bacterial infection they got from eating the resort food!

February 3, 2020 at 12:00 amThe rooms aren’t the best, but hey, it’s a cheap retreat, so what can we really expect? The breakfast wasn’t the best either. You’re better off buying breakfast every morning instead of going for what the buffet has to offer. It’s just a small buffet anyway. But let me tell you, the yoga classes are absolutely fantastic! All the teachers were great, and they offer a wide variety of yoga styles.

January 21, 2020 at 12:00 amI stayed at Serenity 2 and I was really close to some local houses. There were roosters and dogs that woke me up a few times. However, the staff was amazing and super helpful. The breakfast they served was both vegan and absolutely delicious. I couldn’t resist trying their cakes and the restaurant, which were all vegan as well and really fantastic. I loved how everything in the place, from the food to the yoga, spa, and permaculture, seemed to fit perfectly together. They even pay attention to the chemicals they use in the pool, which is pretty impressive. One highlight for me was joining an ecstatic dance session led by Deva, which was absolutely awesome. The only thing they could work on is getting a better sound system for these events. But my absolute favorite was the aerial yoga class. You must try it at least once! Overall, I felt safe, comfortable, and well taken care of during my stay. It was just lovely!

January 20, 2020 at 12:00 amI really liked the food at first, but then it became a bit boring with many dishes being the same. They mostly had raw ingredients, which made it difficult for me to avoid eating salads washed in general water. I wish they had more legume-based dishes in their vegan alkaline diet. We did have moong beans for breakfast one day, but it was a strange sweet porridge. Breakfast was decent overall, but the fresh juices were more like purees than actual juice. I saw what looked like a jacuzzi at one end of the pool, but I couldn’t figure out how to turn it on. Although our room was centrally located in the complex, some of the other accommodations were quite far and the road leading to them was often busy. I wouldn’t want to stay at those alternative places, even if there was a shuttle of some sort. Despite these concerns, I would definitely go back. Booking unlimited yoga classes might have been a bit ambitious, but we managed to participate in at least one class a day, sometimes two. They offered a wide variety of classes with different levels, and the schedule ran from 7am to 7pm. The instructors were all very skilled and the facilities were top-notch. The staff members were extremely helpful and seemed to go above and beyond their job duties. The place was always kept very clean, providing a quiet environment for relaxation. The pool area was lovely to unwind by, and our ensuite room right next to the pool was great. The spa treatments were also fantastic and reasonably priced. Plus, it was just a short walk to the beach.

January 16, 2020 at 12:00 amI stayed at Serenity2. There were a lot of chickens and roosters around, but they didn’t bother me at all. But the entrance is a big, loud, rickety metal gate that is pushed open and closed all night by people coming and going.
The room is very noisy because the door is a sliding door that doesn’t close completely. The beds are very comfortable! The AC is very quiet. The pool is very clean. The breakfast is good, but mostly sweet. They always have cut fruit, bread with sweet spreads, and a hot dish (baked banana or porridge, for example).
The room itself is small, with a bed and a mosquito net. You don’t need anything else. The bathroom was cleaned every day.

January 6, 2020 at 12:00 amNext door had noisy construction happening, and we experienced a power outage one evening… but let’s remember that Serenity couldn’t control these things. However, the staff went above and beyond during the power outage, explaining the situation and ensuring the restaurant remained open. The yoga classes were absolutely fantastic – all the teachers were wonderful! Just a quick tip though, make sure you book half an hour before class to secure your spot. December 21, 2019 at 12:00 amI’m not sure what happened there, but everyone who stayed in the dorm, including me and others in different rooms, experienced a terrible 24-hour sickness with vomiting and diarrhea. The cause could’ve been the breakfast we all ate or possibly issues with sanitation or water quality. It might have also been a 24-hour flu circulating due to the constant flow of people through the place. Regardless, every single person staying in the dorm, as well as those in other rooms, got sick during my 10-day stay. On the positive side, I really enjoyed the open air studios for yoga. The pool looked beautiful and the wifi was decent. The location was fantastic, just a short walk from the beach. It was a really laid-back atmosphere and the customer service was extremely helpful and kind.

September 9, 2019 at 12:00 amI stayed at the Serene rooms, which were just a short distance from the main building. The rooms themselves were great, but I have to admit, I wasn’t a fan of waking up at 4:30 in the morning to the sound of roosters and dogs right outside my window. It didn’t ruin my experience, but I definitely didn’t feel as rested because I couldn’t block out the crazy noise no matter what I tried, like ear plugs or headphones. However, the overall setting and concept of the place were fantastic, and the vibes and staff were great.
I really liked Kartana because he aligned with my yoga style and I appreciated how he corrected my poses. On the other hand, Diaz was an amazing yoga instructor, but his level was a bit advanced for me, so I would have preferred more physical corrections instead of just showing me the poses. The staff in general were really helpful, although I did have one strange experience with the office manager. When I approached him at the desk, he dismissed me and directed me to another staff member.
Overall, my experience at Serenity Eco Lodge was super duper and I would highly recommend it.

August 18, 2019 at 12:00 amThis is not exactly what I imagined when I thought of a yoga retreat. I pictured staying with the same people, having main teachers, and following a structured program. Instead, it’s more like a guest house with drop-in yoga classes. You might end up sharing a room with non-yoga participants, so your schedules might not sync up (late nights out vs. early morning yoga sessions).
I really enjoyed my experience, even though it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. On the bright side, the flexibility was great. I noticed they offer more all-encompassing yoga retreats at a higher price. But for what I paid, I couldn’t be happier! The teachers, classes, variety, and staff were all fantastic. I also met some awesome people and made new friends.
The healthy food options were a big plus. I loved the banana smoothie and chia bowl, and they even provide free water!

May 19, 2019 at 12:00 amThe yoga at Serenity was amazing! I attended 81 classes in one month, but Hannah’s Sunset flow was a total waste of time. Yudah’s classes are good, but his English needs work – bad grammar and excessive talking can be irritating. However, he can improve by learning proper English for his instructions.
The Alkaline restaurant has issues – it’s slow and chaotic. Service could be improved if the kitchen was more organized and the waiters spoke better English. The staff at Serenity is fantastic though! They work hard and are very skilled.

The pre-arranged ride from the airport was well worth it! My driver spoke good English and patiently waited while customs & immigration took a full 90 mins!

April 21, 2019 at 12:00 amOur room. No restful night. Just next to a dog breeder according to the person at the reception… constant barking and roosters, impossible to sleep well even with earplugs. And these noises continue throughout the day. Hearing dogs bark all the time is not pleasant. We had a fridge but no kettle so no hot water available as stated, having to walk 1.5 km for a tea is not what I call convenient. The shower didn’t work, we had hot water one moment and cold the next. For the budget, the room is not adequate… and not serene even though that was its name. The Serenity center was good, the pool, the restaurant, the garden were all good but when you don’t sleep there, you can’t enjoy the services offered like hot water, cold water, relaxation room, pool, breakfast – everything is over there, luckily we had a scooter because it was really not nearby. The yoga classes and equipment are perfect and there are classes at all times of the day.

Literally, every corner of this hostel is filled with love and happiness! The staff is incredibly sweet and really goes out of their way to help with everything!! The rooms are spotless, the food is incredibly delicious, and as a vegan, I felt like I was in paradise! But even the non-vegans loved it as well!! The yoga teachers were absolutely amazing, super professional, and I learned so much! I also definitely recommend treating yourself to massages, as they were incredibly good! December 8, 2018 at 12:00 amIf you’re into camping, you’ll love Serenity. Personally, it’s not my thing. The mosquitoes are out of control and all they offer is some useless mosquito lotion and dimming the lights. It’s more like a Guesthouse with a yoga pass than a retreat. The class schedule only has one beginners class and the other classes aren’t as beginner-friendly as they claim. The quality of teaching varies widely. Some teachers are more focused on Instagram-worthy pics than actual yoga, while others are excellent and inclusive. I had a medical emergency during my stay and the staff didn’t seem to care at all. It took over 4 hours to locate a doctor. Not cool when you’re a young solo traveler. The rooms were terrible, especially for the price. The bathrooms were infested with dead bugs and noisy, with constant parties and commotions. On the bright side, the food at Alkaline restaurant was delicious and the surfing excursion was amazing. Some of the staff were actually helpful.

November 24, 2018 at 12:00 amPeople are not keeping up with the beach cleaning, which is bad because the beach needs to be taken care of. You can do it on your own, but there’s a lot to do, so it’s much better to do it as an organized group. The teachers are very good, they help correct postures and the classes are very dynamic, focusing deeply on the poses. All levels are welcome, which was great for us. Staff is very friendly and kind. August 14, 2018 at 12:00 amSome of the bathrooms didn’t look too great, but they still kept them clean. It can get noisy outside your dorms in the morning with staff and the “fire man” as we jokingly called him. But if you’re up early for yoga anyway, you learn to deal with it. It would be nice if the aircon could be on a timer so it doesn’t wake you up every morning when they come in to turn it off. And why do they open the window right after turning off the air? Wouldn’t it make more sense to keep the cold air in as long as possible? It would be awesome if the later, more relaxing yoga classes were held in a quieter room. The noise from the motorbikes and people talking below can be really distracting. But these are all minor things and wouldn’t stop me from coming back again 🙂 Everything exceeded my expectations. There was a good variety of classes and the teachers were fantastic. You definitely get into a great routine by the end of the retreat! The food was delicious and the staff went above and beyond. Loving the mosquito lotion! Can’t wait to return… hopefully soon!

July 23, 2018 at 12:00 amI loved everything about my stay at Serenity, but unfortunately, I had a rough time with bug bites. One morning, I woke up with my entire back, shoulders, and feet covered in bites. There were so many that I had an allergic reaction. I believe they were bedbugs, not mosquito bites. The staff mentioned they were bug bites from the bamboo outside our rooms, but who knows? I never actually saw any bugs, I just woke up with a hundred bites. I was approached by people at yoga class who noticed my bites, and some of them had experienced the same thing. One girl mentioned that bedbugs are a known issue at Serenity, which is why she doesn’t stay there but still attends classes. The staff was kind and tried to help by applying coconut oil to my bites, but unfortunately, I had even more bites the next day. I ended up canceling my reservation for the last week and went to Ubud instead. It was tough to focus on yoga and meditation with all the itching from the bites. It seems like the bug problem is mainly in the single rooms, as the dorms seemed to be okay. Despite that, Serenity is a fantastic place for solo travelers looking for peace, relaxation, and the chance to meet like-minded people while practicing yoga in a beautiful setting. The location is excellent, close to the beach, with top-notch yoga classes. The staff is lovely, and the prices are reasonable. I particularly loved Kartana and Pusba’s classes, but there’s something for everyone at Serenity. The spa services were also exceptional.

April 14, 2018 at 12:00 amI don’t think this is a true yoga retreat. They don’t provide a set program, coaching, or guidance. You basically just get a place to stay and a yoga pass, and then you have to figure out everything on your own. This can be really frustrating, especially for beginners.
Also, the place is a lot busier than I expected from their descriptions and website. This is mainly because of the pretty good restaurant and the walk-ins to the yoga classes. The lack of structure combined with the busyness makes it not feel like a retreat at all in my opinion.
It’s a nice (budget-friendly) place to stay and do some yoga. The lessons are generally good (though the quality varies between teachers), the accommodation is nice, the pool is good, and the location near the beach is great.

Helpful ReviewWhen I first arrived after a 20-hour journey, I wasn’t sure if I would stay because as a Westerner, the room seemed too basic. But within a couple of days, this place felt like home. It has such a friendly vibe.
If I had to make one criticism, it would be that the rooms need more plug sockets and air conditioning. The ceiling fans didn’t do much. The shared bathroom facilities are plentiful, though. I never had a problem finding a toilet or shower in my 31 days here.
A lot of people got sick with Bali belly, so I would recommend bringing Imodium just in case. It wasn’t because of anything at the hostel, mostly food from off-site.
I would definitely recommend the 30-day program. It gives you time to relax, rethink, and really immerse yourself in the yoga.

March 8, 2018 at 12:00 amThe philosophy of the yoga teachers varied a lot. I felt uncomfortable several times because it was all about pushing yourself more and competing to have the best stretch in class. It really ruined the yoga experience, especially for those who were new to yoga.
There was also a virus going around, and it seemed like someone new was always stuck near a bathroom every day. We suspected it was the food at the restaurant, as no one had experienced those issues before in Bali.
The staff took good care of us – I was brought water and charcoal tablets in the middle of the night, and even more the next day. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, making it easy to feel comfortable. They were really something special!
My room, KrisKros, was very spacious and well-equipped: fridge, mosquito net, fan, air conditioning, you name it.

My partner and I got very sick halfway through the retreat, so no more yoga for us. We can’t be sure where we got it from, but we only ate at one restaurant outside Sanctuary and it was always very busy. Others at Sanctuary also fell ill. People didn’t wipe the mats properly, and I’m not convinced the cutlery and dishes were properly disinfected. The staff gave us a charcoal drink that really helped, but being in Sanctuary 2, we felt quite cut off. For example, I sent a message asking for breakfast to be brought to us because we were so unwell, but didn’t get a response for 24 hours. It’s fantastic value here, just don’t get sick! We managed 3 months in Asia without any issues, and it was our last week of traveling that got us. The classes were great, the pool area is very nice, and the breakfast was lovely. Our room had everything we needed, and the free insect repellent was a nice touch. The staff were lovely.

February 3, 2018 at 12:00 amThe owner didn’t use chemicals to combat the bed bugs that were going around. The mosquitos and flies seemed immune to their natural repellent and even store-bought mosquito repellent. The owner was a little rigid too. I actually had to get a refund because I couldn’t stand to be there anymore. I liked the location and the yoga instructors.

January 30, 2018 at 12:00 amWe had bed bugs in the dorm, but the staff didn’t really take care of it. They wouldn’t even pay for washing all our clothes when we left to get rid of them. Some of the staff had a bad attitude, especially regarding the bed bugs and when people were sick from the food. When we told them about it, they didn’t seem to care or do anything. Despite that, I enjoyed the yoga classes and the instructors, as well as the pool area. The food was really good, but everyone in the dorm ended up getting sick and we weren’t sure if it was from the food. I did appreciate that everything was eco-friendly.

January 23, 2018 at 12:00 amI didn’t like Canggu itself. The yoga spot was like an island in the craziness of Canggu. It was busy, especially with surfers strutting around all day like a fashion show with their surfboards under their arms, which was a weird contrast to the serenity of Serenity. I didn’t feel like I belonged in Canggu. I really liked the guests at Serenity. Everyone was there with the same purpose, so that created a connection. The yoga classes were really nice and you were pretty close to all the shops and restaurants in Canggu.

January 19, 2018 at 12:00 amBed bugs were found in three different beds. The management didn’t take the problem seriously and claimed they had checked, even though they hadn’t. It was frustrating when they pretended to be unaware, but they actually knew about the situation. When confronted, they just changed their story. This disrespect is uncomfortable and doesn’t match their name, “Serenity.”

January 18, 2018 at 12:00 amI had to move to Kris Kris, the 3rd building for one night. I didn’t like it much because the room smelled like a toilet. Serenity Yoga and Guesthouse is a warm and welcoming place where they serve you with a smile and make you feel at home right away. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay in the main building due to full bookings. I stayed at Serenity 2 and rented a bicycle to ride back and forth. The yoga classes were challenging at first, since I hadn’t practiced in two years, but all the teachers made sure to explain well, offer position options, and push you to do better. In just a short time, I gained strength, lost weight thanks to the great alkaline restaurant, and felt at peace in my mind and soul. I left this humble place reluctantly and wished I had booked for 4 weeks instead! 🙂

January 17, 2018 at 12:00 amThe shower doesn’t have hot water and bugs are always inside. The toilet has damp tissue paper. The yoga mats and tools smell so bad I had to leave the class multiple times because it made me sick. It was terrible. If you can’t stand the odor, I suggest bringing your own yoga mat. The food at the alkaline restaurant is good, but expensive. I enjoyed the high-quality yoga classes and the helpful staff.

December 18, 2017 at 12:00 amUnfortunately, trash polluted the beaches in Bali. But the entire staff at the resort was incredibly friendly and actively made sure my stay was perfect! The yoga instructors were all amazing, and I gained so much knowledge from them. I also connected with some awesome people staying there because the place has a great vibe that attracts like-minded individuals. The value is fantastic too, from food and massages to motorbike rentals. And if you’re looking for some nightlife, it’s just a few blocks away for the perfect balance on your trip.

November 13, 2017 at 12:00 amConstruction work was taking place in the main building, so I had to switch rooms. Fortunately, the process was smooth and I even got a free massage out of it. It’s great that maintenance work is being done, but it should be communicated before booking so guests can choose their rooms accordingly. The food is delicious and healthy, and the prices are fair. The accommodations exceeded my expectations for the price – spacious, clean, and something for everyone’s taste! The staff is extremely friendly and always ready to help. I think the staff really make this place special in the long run!
The variety of yoga classes offered is impressive, with different styles and daily changing schedules to cater to everyone’s needs. Overall, I am very happy with my choice of yoga retreat. Canggu is also a trendy little surfing town where you can do much more than just yoga! Awesome!

July 6, 2017 at 12:00 amThe staff at the reception didn’t speak English very well, making it difficult to communicate with them. They were friendly, but had trouble finding my payment for yoga classes in their system four times. It seemed like they were just trying to make extra money. Despite having paid for 5 classes, they insisted they couldn’t find me in the system each time I tried to book a class. I had to show my receipt and argue with them before finally being able to book. The first time, they tried to charge me 110k instead of the 90k per class I had booked online, claiming it was high season. This was frustrating and annoying, and they would always say I hadn’t paid when I tried to attend my class. This ruined my experience. On the bright side, I enjoyed the calm and pleasant atmosphere around the accommodation. The location was great and the overall ambiance was peaceful.

July 1, 2017 at 12:00 amI had trouble communicating my concerns due to a language barrier. I misplaced my room key and was leaving the next day. The manager had arranged for a driver to pick me up from a different location for my shuttle to the gilli islands in the morning. I was told I would get my key deposit back, minus the cost of a replacement key. I ended up finding my key in the lining of my backpack. However, the next day, the eco driver didn’t show up, so I had to walk to the main building to catch my ride. The shuttle driver wasn’t happy when we had to turn back for my luggage. Despite finding my key, I still had to pay for a replacement because that’s what I was told to do. I tried to discuss it with the eco staff, but they couldn’t help further. It was frustrating not being able to resolve the issue. The rooster outside my window kept me up all night, making it impossible to sleep. The beach location was nice, and most of the staff tried to help, but there needs to be better communication and procedures in place.

June 4, 2017 at 12:00 amSome staff members were not fluent in English, but we always managed to understand each other. The place is not super fancy, but that’s totally fine with me. Just keep in mind that it attracts a lot of young travelers who aren’t necessarily seeking a quiet yoga retreat. Everyone on the staff was incredibly kind and accommodating.
The classes were top-notch, and with the unlimited pass, you can tailor your schedule to your liking. I enjoyed trying out various yoga and meditation styles led by both Balinese and Western instructors. They even offered classes on Yoga Philosophy and Life Coaching.
The eco-friendly concept is impressive. The restaurant served delicious vegetarian/vegan/raw dishes, and the location near the beach was perfect. If you’re looking for more excitement, the bustling center of Canggu is just a stone’s throw away.

May 28, 2017 at 12:00 amThe rooms were not very clean. I stayed in three different rooms – first, the shared dorms, which were probably the best and cleanest. Then, I stayed in two other locations with my own room. Both rooms had dirty bedding. The first room had blood on the sheets, while the second had mysterious white stains. Both rooms were supposed to have hot water and AC. The first room had a broken shower and no hot water. The second room had a broken AC. When I told the staff about the issues, they sent maintenance to fix them in a few hours.
Most of the staff were nice, but the owner seemed pretty rude. He kicked me out of the common area when he was talking to the staff. Some of the yoga teachers were great, but others were arrogant and rude. One class felt like boot camp, and another teacher forced me into a pose that hurt my back. Most of the yoga classes were good, but some teachers were terrible.
The food at the restaurant was healthy and fresh, and the location was great. I appreciated that the accommodation was smoke and alcohol-free, attracting health-conscious people and creating a great vibe with interesting people to talk to. It was a great place to hang out.

May 24, 2017 at 12:00 amPeople were drawn in because Lonely Planet recommended it as a place to stay, even though they weren’t really into the vibe or yoga! Some of the yoga attendees were a bit pretentious and serious – they could use some face-yoga to remember how to smile! The bathrooms should be thoroughly cleaned with bleach, but that doesn’t fit with the zen atmosphere I’m used to! The yoga teachers were all unique, but each had something special about them – they were clearly selected with care. The addition of the restaurant was fantastic – it offered good value, a wide variety of healthy options, and was convenient.
