What the sound healing and meditation retreat is not:

The sound healing and meditation retreat is not a quick fix or a magic solution for all your challenges. It’s not a replacement for professional medical or psychological treatment. Although it provides significant benefits and supports your overall well-being, it should be seen as a complementary practice rather than the sole remedy. It’s not a one-time experience, rather a journey of self-discovery and personal growth that requires commitment and openness. It’s not about escaping from reality, but rather about embracing the present moment and connecting with your inner self.

Included excursions

You’ll get to explore the Purification to Holy Water Temple. It’s the beginning of a mind and spirit purification series journey where you can visit one of the well-known holy water temples in Bali. You’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the sacred water, pray for blessings at the inner temple, and receive a sprinkle of holy water from the priest to calm your mind and soul. Don’t worry about the details – the sarong, sash, offering, and transport are all provided for you.

Next, you’ll experience an ashram journey at Ashram Munivara. This ashram, founded by Master Ketut Arsana, is located near Om Ham Retreat and Resort. It’s his personal offering to help more people in the spiritual community. The journey includes purification at the holy water shrine to cleanse your body, mind, and soul. Afterward, you’ll have a meditation session at Ganesha Cave to release any burdens from your mind. Just like before, the sarong and sash are provided for you.

And if that’s not enough, you’ll have the chance to participate in a unique ancient sound healing meditation at the Pyramid of Chi. This session will take you to a state of relaxation that is both scientific and mysterious. All you need to do is be present and open-minded to fully appreciate the experience. Transport arrangements are taken care of by Om Ham.

As part of this amazing journey, you’ll also have the opportunity to go on guided walks to the ancient Junjungan village and enjoy a peaceful sunrise walk. It’s going to be an unforgettable experience, so be prepared to expect the unexpected!

Retreat location

This retreat will be held at the Om Ham Retreat Center, which is located in Bali, Indonesia. The center is a source of inspiration and brings happiness and harmony to all its guests. It’s one of Bali’s unique retreat centers, built by Guru Ketut Arsana and locals. You can disconnect from the busy pace of life and reconnect with yourself in this amazing and energizing natural environment. It’s situated in the serene rice paddies of Ubud highlands, in the charming village of Junjungan. You can easily reach it in just 20 minutes by car from the city center.

Food

Tulsi Eatery and Coffee, a vegetarian-based restaurant, will serve you daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also offer options suitable for a vegan diet, and they can even modify meals to be Sattvika if you prefer. The ingredients they use are organically grown, either from their own garden or from trusted organic growers. But don’t worry, if you’re not a vegetarian, they also have a non-vegetarian menu selection for when you’re in the mood for comfort food. Just let them know your dietary preferences, and they will be more than happy to create a memorable dining experience for you in Ubud.

The food wasn’t bad, but it could’ve been a bit better. The retreat menu felt a bit restrictive to me. Let me tell you, this retreat has been one of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time. They’ve created such a thoughtful and comprehensive program to help you relax both mentally and physically. I came here looking for a total reset, and that’s exactly what I got. The staff is incredible – so friendly and attentive. They truly enhanced the whole experience.

I can’t remember the names of the two different male teachers – they both have a lot of experience in yoga but aren’t as good at creating a great class experience. Students with different abilities should be given more options, as the class has varying levels. It seems like the male teachers are more interested in practicing their own yoga instead of actually teaching it.

I really wish I had the chance to join Guru’s yoga lesson, but I understand he’s busy with the important festival at the Ashram. The program is packed with amazing experiences like purification at the water temple, sound healing, meditation, and a tour of the Ashram. Plus, we get massages almost every day! The staff here are incredibly kind and accommodating, and they’re flexible with the schedule. And let me tell you about the food – it’s absolutely abundant and the dishes are excellent, with mouthwatering desserts. On top of that, they serve tea and fruit after the massages, and tea for a good night’s sleep delivered to your room. This is my third visit here, and I have to say, the service just keeps getting better every time.

Unfortunately, the retreat only lasts for 3 days instead of the advertised 5. When we arrived on the first day, dinner wasn’t provided and there were no treatments or yoga sessions, except for a 5-10 minute foot scrub. If we had known about this, we wouldn’t have rushed to get there by 2pm. Additionally, the detox juices are not included, only tea is provided. However, the staff is extremely friendly and always ready to accommodate your needs. We really enjoyed the stunning view of the rice fields as well as the welcome gifts and the treatments.

The retreat was excellent! The food was delicious, and the Yoga classes were fantastic. The instructors were top-notch, and I even got to participate in a class with the master himself – he was incredible! I just wish I had more time to spend there, but hopefully, I’ll be able to come back again soon. The hotel staff were really friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. Plus, the massages included in the package were amazing – I absolutely loved them!

We didn’t feel like we were really doing a retreat. When we read the description, the whole program sounded amazing. But it turned out to be more about appearances than reality.

For instance, the sunrise walk on the first day was a major letdown. We were expecting a peaceful walk through the rice fields, watching the sunrise. Instead, we ended up walking on a noisy street where everyone honked at us. Plus, we didn’t even get to see the sunrise because we walked in the opposite direction. On our way back, we stopped at a spot to watch the sunrise, but one of the staff members pulled out his cell phone and started watching videos loudly. That’s how our retreat began, and it’s why we decided to skip the second sunrise walk.

The sound healing hour wasn’t enjoyable either. The instrument they used wasn’t very calming. We were expecting a sound healing class with singing bowls, but that didn’t happen.

Even the evening ritual wasn’t anything special. All we got was some tea and a cotton pad with lavender. It was nothing like what was described online.

Overall, we’re extremely disappointed with the retreat, especially because it was our last few days in Bali. However, the food and the rooms were great, and the staff was friendly and kind. We really enjoyed the spa treatments, especially Giri who was incredibly kind. The yoga classes were also nice. Plus, considering everything that was included in the price, it was relatively cheap for a “retreat.”

The yoga master was included in our schedule based on his availability. Unfortunately, due to his busy schedule, we ended up meeting with him in a large group setting with seven other people. This wasn’t ideal as we were not prepared for a group discussion. We all sat in awkward silence, which was quite unfortunate because we had prepared questions that we wanted to discuss with him. It makes me think that if the yoga master’s schedule is too tight to meet individually with participants, then it shouldn’t be included in the schedule at all. Maybe it should be a meeting that needs to be scheduled individually.

My husband and I absolutely loved our five-day stay at Om Ham. Every morning, we started with a 1 1/2 hour yoga class, which was a great way to begin the day. In the afternoon and evening, we were treated to spa treatments, which added to our relaxation. The food at Om Ham was excellent, and we particularly enjoyed the tea they served. The staff was amazing – they picked us up from Denpasar and even arranged transportation for us to Mt. Batur when we had to leave. We highly recommend staying here!

    – People were smoking in the pool area, on the second floor of the restaurant, and in other areas. It was extremely disturbing to have people smoking next to you while you’re trying to read a book or relax during a retreat. Unfortunately, the staff didn’t do anything about it.
    – Similarly, there were people who had a very different mindset and displayed behaviors that were not expected in a place like this. For example, two men had a whole bottle of whisky and were drinking whiskola from a can of Coke at 10:30 AM. There were also families with very noisy kids.
    – The yoga mats were old and often dirty. I had expected better quality mats, such as anti-slippery ones.
    – I discovered Kundalini yoga, which is not widely practiced in western countries, and it’s really amazing. The classes were fantastic and accessible to people of all experience levels.
    – The spa treatments were really nice and relaxing. The staff was dedicated to making you feel good.
    – The food was plentiful and the restaurant staff were absolutely lovely and friendly. As a vegetarian, I really appreciated the variety of food available.
    – The hotel is conveniently located next to a beautiful rice paddy, offering a fabulous view from the pool.

I had to leave because this place is amazing! I had such an amazing time at Om Ham. It really invited a lot of peace and grounding for me. The whole retreat overlooks rice fields, and the greenery and nature are so inviting. The Kundalini Tantra yoga blew me away, and the meditation and sound healing felt like pure magic. I loved how they emphasized breath work in the yoga sessions, and I appreciated the teachers’ support throughout. The food was absolutely nourishing and delicious (you have to try the Avocado cheesecake). All the staff members were incredibly dedicated and friendly. The pampering and care were beyond anything I’ve experienced. I’ll definitely be coming back!

I had an amazing time at Om Ham! The staff there was absolutely incredible – they were always going above and beyond to make sure I had the best experience possible, and they always had a smile on their faces. A big shoutout to Kopi and Dewa for their special assistance.

The food at Om Ham was outstanding! It was not only delicious, but also fresh. The retreat menu offered a great variety of choices, and everything tasted absolutely delicious! I have to mention the fresh young coconuts, they were definitely a highlight for me. And let’s not forget about the sleep time teas – they were a nice touch!

The yoga instructors at Om Ham were incredibly helpful and insightful. As a beginner, I felt so humbled to practice with such skilled yogis. The meditation sessions were also fantastic, I just wish I had taken advantage of them more.

The hotel and accommodations as a whole exceeded my expectations. Everything was really nice and comfortable.

Thank you so much, Om Ham! I can’t wait to come back again soon. xxxx

    – I walked for 35 minutes on the road instead of 1 hour with someone who didn’t want to be there.
    – I often smelled cigarettes at the restaurant, on my balcony, and even once in the yoga room. It’s very unpleasant.
    – The organization of the program could be improved.
    – The desserts are not good at all.
    – For the massages, it would be better to leave some time between the end of the massage and the signing of the voucher.
    – There are bad smells in the bathroom and a lack of ventilation.
    – I loved the yoga classes with the three teachers. The class with the master was amazing, he has a great sense of humor, it’s very enjoyable. The massages were very relaxing, I really enjoyed them too.
    – The room was nice, the bed was comfortable.
    – The fruits were very tasty.
    – I also liked the tour in Ubud, even though it wasn’t long enough. I also appreciated the little attentions like the herbal tea served in the room and the kindness of the staff.

The detox menu tasted delicious, but it could use a few more additions to the mains. I absolutely loved Tantra yoga! It was nothing like I expected, and now it’s become my new favorite style. The instructors were all amazing, with great humor and lightness. I also enjoyed the in-house activities like herbal tea classes and making natural body scrubs. The beauty treatments were incredibly relaxing, and the team was highly professional. Oh, and let’s not forget about the outlook, pool, and dining rooms – they perfectly capture the essence of Bali.

The cleanliness of the common areas was clearly lacking. The stairs leading to the yoga shala have probably not been cleaned in months. It’s pretty disgusting. The floor in the yoga shala is also very dirty. The yoga mats are disgusting too.
The dining tables are not thoroughly cleaned. The yoga class was great, as well as all the spa treatments. The staff was very professional. All the activities included in my package were great.
The breakfast buffet had a variety of options every day.

It’s about 5 km away from the center of Ubud, so you’ll need to take a taxi towards the city (I did that with Grab, really cheap). The resort is amazing, it’s located right in the middle of the rice fields but has all the luxuries and a lovely pool. You can start your day with a morning walk, yoga, and/or a massage. You’ll get the real Bali feeling here, and the people are so friendly and sweet! I liked it so much that I extended my stay 🙂 I really recommend it to everyone, as a treat for yourself!

I don’t have anything bad to say about it. If they offered more different styles of yoga, I would definitely be a happy returning customer. I actually found the place through Bookyogaretreats, and I used their filter for “Yes to Ashtanga yoga.” Maybe there was some misinformation on their website. Anyway, everything was amazing from the beginning and just kept getting better each day. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the massage therapists had magical hands and were very attentive. The program was relaxed but still packed with great activities. The food was also really good. I really wished I had been taught by Guru Ketut Arsana himself, but unfortunately, he wasn’t teaching during my stay, which I didn’t know beforehand. Meeting him and talking to him in person made me realize how much I would have loved to learn from him. However, the teachers who were there during my stay were truly dedicated. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The program offered a lot of food, which isn’t a bad thing, but it’s important to note that this retreat isn’t meant for detoxifying. The environment was well-kept and the ongoing maintenance and construction were done considerately to ensure it didn’t disrupt the guests’ experience. The program gave me plenty of free time to relax or explore, and I could even request a free shuttle bus. I personally stayed at the center the whole time, except for the Ashram Journey, Purification Ritual, and Kirtan Sound Healing Meditation. The Purification Ritual at Sebutu Holy Water Fall was refreshing, and the Ashram Journey was truly special as I had the opportunity to sit in Guru Ketut Arsana’s quarters, listen to his conversations with the locals, ask him a question, and receive a blessing. The Kirtan Sound Healing was a fantastic way to experience their faith. The Kundalini Tantra Yoga was absolutely incredible, but it’s more suitable for intermediate to advanced students. The included massage treatments were fantastic. The restaurant, especially upstairs, had a calming and serene vibe. I highly recommend the Om Ham Retreat Centre Restore and Renew 5 Day Program. Thank you to all the wonderful people who made my retreat so special.

I can’t find any flaws in the quality of the food. Everything was fresh. However, the choice was limited and the taste was not what I hoped for in authentic Indonesian cuisine.

I was also disappointed with the interaction with Master Asana. I expected more communication and guidance/explanation regarding the type of yoga they offer there. The program was well-organized. I expected more group activities, like the walks, for example. Since I was alone, it took a while to make connections with others.

We even had the chance to spend some one-on-one time with Master Ketut. They gave us a motivational talk and we could ask questions. The rooms are extremely soundproof. Many guests are not at the yoga retreat or do not attend the early morning yoga classes, so it can be loud in the neighboring room until 1 am. The location of the center is ideal if you don’t want to be right in Ubud, but still close by. The view of the rice fields is amazing!

The kundalini tantra yoga classes challenged me a little too much, with the difficult asanas and high number of repetitions. I would have liked to have a challenging class every other day, alternating with a less physically intense class. However, the teacher (whose name I unfortunately didn’t catch) was excellent and really inspiring.

The staff at Om Ham took great care of me, attending to all my needs with kindness, generosity, and courtesy. The relaxation treatments were even better than I expected, truly top-notch. The grounds were absolutely breathtaking and created a peaceful atmosphere. And let me tell you, the food at the restaurant was outstanding, as were the service and overall atmosphere.

To top it all off, the daily cultural activities enhanced my experience and made it even more fulfilling.

I noticed that the quilt and mattress in the room were a little damp. This retreat is located about a 20-minute bike ride from Ubud center. The resort’s surroundings are absolutely stunning, with lush greenery and picturesque views of the nearby paddy field visible from the pool and restaurant. It’s a small resort, but the design is truly beautiful. The staff here are incredibly welcoming, polite, and always have a smile on their faces. The yoga and meditation instructors are really good too. And let me tell you, the food is absolutely delicious! They have plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans, and they even serve beer in the restaurant.

The Wifi kept turning off and the connection was very weak, which really annoyed me because I needed to work for about two hours every day. I guess for most people on vacation, it’s not a big deal to have constant and fast internet. But for those of us who are traveling and working at the same time, having a reliable Wifi service is really important. The staff at Om Ham are friendly and helpful, which is great. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the food is delicious, healthy, and nicely presented.

I’ve been doing yoga for many years, and my five-day stay in Om Ham gave me the chance to learn more about Kundalini, specifically Kundalini Tantra as taught by Master Ketut Arsana. I even bought the DVD of Kundalini Tantra Yoga by him, and I plan on taking some time to fully understand it. Right now, I can’t really describe it well, but I can say that my body feels more alive after following the instructor and focusing on my breathing, which helps release mental stress.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at Om Ham and I’m already planning on coming back in the near future. I also took a herbal tea class, which was incredibly enjoyable and informative. I highly recommend it!

Don’t allow children at the retreat because they create too much noise and ruin the calming atmosphere for the other 90% of the occupants who come here for a healing experience. The food was also just okay. The atmosphere, spa, staff, and yoga could be improved.

Unfortunately, the hotel is currently undergoing construction, so you might experience some noise at certain times. However, everything else was amazing during my stay at Om Ham. It was a truly peaceful and wonderful retreat. The accommodations were pleasant, although not super luxurious. The food was absolutely delicious and nutritious. I never went hungry since all my meals, including appetizers, main dishes, and desserts, were included.

What really stood out to me was the exceptional level of care and friendly service throughout my entire stay. The staff knew my name and always made sure I was enjoying myself. They were flexible and genuinely wanted to make my experience great. When I arrived, I was really stressed out, but by the time I left, I felt so relaxed and rejuvenated. The staff, especially Iluo (sorry if I spelled her name wrong), were all fantastic. Iluo was nurturing and caring, and she made me feel comfortable from the moment I arrived until I left.

I also had a great time attending Arthur’s yoga classes. It was my first time trying kundalini yoga, and now I’m inspired to continue practicing it. Mina was very patient with me during meditation, even though I struggled a bit. She took me on a nice visit to the ashram and answered all my questions. Dewa, my lovely driver, accompanied me to the water temple. It was a special morning as I was cleansed in the holy waters, and Dewa took amazing photos. We also had great conversations during our drive.

Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and I was sad to leave and unable to extend my visit. I definitely hope to return in the future. I really enjoyed exploring the spiritual side of Bali. ?‍♀️?

I stumbled upon a little paradise in the rice fields and was absolutely blown away by the breathtaking views, mesmerizing places, friendly people, cozy accommodation, and delicious food. A big shoutout to the amazing reception team, including Suyoga and Agun, for their warm welcome and helpfulness.

The kundalini yoga sessions and massages were absolutely perfect for rejuvenating my mind and body. The SPA team, consisting of Iluh, Indra, and Ana, always had a smile on their faces and genuinely cared about meeting my needs.

I had the incredible surprise of visiting the Holy water temple with Komang, who not only drove me there but also guided me through the praying and purifying process while sharing his deep knowledge of Balinese culture. He was incredibly attentive to my needs and made the experience even more special.

I need to mention the fantastic team at the restaurant, including Randi and Rima. They made dining a delightful experience with their friendly and attentive service. The food options available were also top-notch.

I couldn’t meet the Master, even though it was scheduled in my program, because he was in Malaysia. They didn’t offer to reschedule our meeting.
The optional classes (cooking, dancing) are a bit expensive. They suggested that I take the cooking class without telling me that it wasn’t included in the package. As a result, the bill was a bit high. The superior room was clean and well-equipped.
The pool and garden were very beautiful and enjoyable.

    False promises:
    – The yoga class feels more like a teacher’s exhibition rather than an actual yoga class (no coaching, not suitable for beginners; moreover, the instructor doesn’t go around helping participants, just lets them make mistakes without intervening).
    – Meditation: They advertise it as a retreat, but we only had one meditation session in five days! Is that really a retreat?!?!?
    – Guru: Our program included a meeting with the guru. On the first evening, they inform us that he can’t meet us but will be available the next day. Then, on the second evening, they say he’s in Ubud and we still can’t meet him. And finally, they tell us he’s flying to Australia the next day. All this with a smile and apologetic tone, but what a disappointment!!!
    – Room: We purposely chose a superior room for a little extra comfort. Instead, they give us a room close to the road with a bathroom where you can’t even take a shower without getting everything soaked!!! When we complain at the reception, they assure us they will look for another room the next day because they are fully booked at the moment. We returned the next day, but no luck… of course, the staff is once again sorry for the inconvenience!!!
    – Organization: We were not properly informed about the process for booking treatments in advance. Plus, the shuttle schedules they provided were unreliable, and we ended up waiting for a long time!!! The place itself is beautiful, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the restaurant is nice.
We also really enjoyed the massages and other treatments we received.

I found it a little too far to walk to Ubud centre along a busy road, but luckily taxis weren’t expensive. The shuttle bus was available, but it didn’t always match up with my retreat activities. I wish I had more time to do extra yoga and try out some of the classes that were available to others, but not included in my retreat schedule. The hotel had beautiful gardens with lovely little touches, and the staff were always helpful and made me feel welcome. The therapies were great and the food was delicious! The yoga was different from what I’m used to, but it was well-executed and interesting. The yoga teacher singing Balinese mantras at the end of each class was absolutely stunning.

Hmm, everything’s fine except for the last day when they charged us for the villa-to-airport transfer. We assumed it was included since they provided a complimentary Airport-to-villa service. There must have been some miscommunications, they should make it clearer to their customers next time. Other than that, everything was great! The people were nice and the place was lovely! It was a peaceful escape from the busy city. We’ll definitely go back again. The food was amazing and included in the package, and we looked forward to meal times every day! We felt relaxed and rejuvenated after the trip! The location is about a 15-minute drive from Ubud city, but they offer free shuttle service a few times a week, so it’s not a problem! The spa and massage were fantastic too! Ahh, now I’m reminiscing about Bali again!

I didn’t have a divider or shower curtain in my Shakti Room bath, so whenever I used the shower, some droplets of water ended up on the toilet and bath floor. But it wasn’t a big deal because they dried up quickly, and there was a floor towel to wipe away the droplets. My stay at Om Ham was incredibly relaxing. The staff was friendly and accommodating. My Shakti Room was clean, dreamy, and peaceful. I absolutely loved the in-room spa flower bath arrangement. The yoghurt massage and rejuvenating facial included in my package were outstanding, as well as the add-ons like the manicure, pedicure, and relaxation therapy. The welcome drink and tea before and after the treatment were refreshing. The food and drinks at Tulsi Dining were delicious. The views of the rice paddies and the pool were breathtaking. If I had to be picky, the bathroom could use a bit of sprucing up and it would’ve been nice to have more than 3 shuttle bus options per day. The level of service is top-notch, mainly because the staff genuinely cares about making the guests happy.

Here are a few things I loved about Om Ham (in no particular order):
    a) The overall atmosphere is super relaxed, and since it’s located a bit outside of the city, it’s perfectly peaceful.
    b) The restaurant has a beautiful view of the rice fields and offers delicious options. You have to try the fried mahi mahi with sambal and the cocoa pancakes.
    c) The kundalini yoga classes are taught by experienced and patient teachers who are also really kind.
    d) The pool area is maintained really well and is an ideal spot for reading.
    e) I really appreciate that the place is eco-friendly. They provide free water refills from coolers and even gave me a free organic bug spray that smelled amazing and didn’t have any nasty chemicals.

I would highly recommend the Om Ham retreat program to solo travelers. It strikes a perfect balance between activities and free time. On one of the days, I was so relaxed from the Rejuvenate bath (which I highly recommend) that I ended up sleeping through the yoga class. I’d call that a good problem to have!

Since my visit, I’ve recommended Om Ham to many of my friends who need a break from their busy city lives and want to find some balance. And personally, I can’t wait to go back.

It was really tough for me, as a beginner, to keep up with the retreat, so I decided to leave after 2 days. The yoga class was too advanced for beginners like myself and others in the class, making it hard to follow along. The food options were lacking variety, especially at breakfast where there was nothing sweet. The rooms had a musty smell and were quite old. While I was there, a noisy group made it hard for others to relax, and it seemed like little was done to address the issue and make them more considerate of other guests trying to find peace. I would only recommend this retreat for advanced yoga groups. Despite these issues, I did appreciate the atmosphere and professionalism of the staff.

Many families with children screamed and played in the pool for most of the 4 days I was there. There was also a screaming 6-week-old newborn in the room next door for one night.

People were allowed to smoke, and even during yoga class, the sickly sweet clove cigarette smoke would often drift into the studio.

The classes were not taught by the master, and I never got the meeting that was supposed to be included in my package. There was also no tour of the ashram offered. I ended up exploring on my own, but it wasn’t very welcoming.

The spa treatments were excellent, the food was outstanding, the rooms were comfortable, the pool was great, and the service was courteous.

I recommend updating the paint in the bottom 2 spa rooms. Everything at Om Ham Retreat was amazing – the staff, drivers, and chef. I didn’t want to leave at all. Tini made booking a breeze. I created my own itinerary and they easily accommodated me, even taking me to other places without extra charges. I loved my drivers, Sari and Daewoo. I met some lovely women from around the world and bonded effortlessly. This retreat was exactly what I needed and priceless. I am thrilled to have stayed at Om Ham Retreat and am already planning a trip to bring my girlfriends back next year!

We need to address a few updates, like replacing the toilet in the upper spa bathroom as soon as possible. It really kills the bath vibe in that area. The grounds are stunning and the staff was super attentive. The food was amazing and the yoga training was top-notch. I couldn’t get enough of the delicious meals, and Ana, my spa therapist, was absolutely incredible and so skilled. I had an amazing stay and can’t wait to come back soon!

On the first day, I got a timetable with more free time slots than activities. There was only one yoga session per day (if that). Plus, I was the only person doing a retreat there…

I attended yoga classes with three different teachers. Two of them, in my opinion, were just plain terrible.

On the second evening, I had a “Motivational talk” with Master Ketut Arsana. I was draped in a white cloth around my hips and a yellow scarf around my shoulders. I was led by a young lady through a dark path away from the hotel area to a hut where the Master was waiting on an elevated seat. I was expected to kneel and ask him questions. Then he performed a baptism-like ritual and gave me a drink. The staff seemed to have great respect for him. From my perspective, it felt very cult-like or like a tantra community.

Feeling very uncomfortable there, I decided to cancel the retreat after two nights and book somewhere else. When I informed the reception of my decision, they clearly tried to prevent any phone contact.

In comparison, I spent the rest of my vacation at another yoga retreat where I was fortunately well taken care of. Unlike the Om Ham Center, there were two yoga and meditation sessions per day, workshops, cultural excursions, 25 other participants from around the world, and most importantly, a healthy atmosphere. The restaurant and coffee area were charmingly decorated and the service staff was very attentive. The food was decent.

For hotel guests who aren’t booking a retreat, this place might be suitable because the infrastructure (rooms, pool, yoga rooms, restaurant) is well-maintained and the staff is extremely helpful. However, I strongly advise against it for a yoga retreat!

Master Ketut Arsana’s yoga class was actually good, except I found out he only teaches once a week for an hour.

I thought there would be more yoga each day, but the morning session was a bit shorter. It could’ve been because there weren’t many people there. I had a fantastic time at a clean and perfectly equipped resort. The food was delicious, healthy, and there was plenty of it. I highly recommend that restaurant! The view was breathtaking, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The treatments were extremely professional. I’ve never had such amazing massages or felt so well taken care of in my life. Thank you, Yuliana! I believe the staff truly makes the difference at Om Ham Retreat. Everyone, from the housekeeping to the spa staff, the reception, and restaurant staff, was incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to ensure you had a pleasant and relaxing stay. The yoga and meditation classes were also very good!

During our second yoga class, bongos played in the grassy area throughout. It was tough to relax with that distraction. The master’s motivational talk seemed lacking as he simply asked if we had questions. It could be explained better to guests. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the pool area was fantastic for relaxing.

There are really no negatives. The only thing is that if you happen to coincide with a big organized group at the hotel (which happened to me only on my last day), it may take away from the peace and quiet and immersive atmosphere of the hotel. But that’s the case in any given hotel in general… The peace and the energy of this place are magical. The staff, therapists, and yoga teachers are the warmest, most friendly, and adorable people I’ve ever met. The location is perfect as well since it’s sufficiently removed from the touristy hassle of Ubud, which can be quite overwhelming. This retreat was simply ideal for relaxation and for recharging my batteries… And beyond the expected relaxation, I had the bonus of a spiritual experience too – unexpectedly meeting with the guru and taking part in a regular ashram ceremony. Pure magic!

Thanks for being so friendly and helpful, staff. My mum, aunt, and I absolutely love Om Ham! The swimming pool water is clean and natural, without any chemical smell. It’s a quiet place with a variety of plants and insects in the garden. The food is delicious, especially the detox soup. We enjoyed ginger tea with honey daily and the fruit juice was very tasty. I was surprised to see parents with children here! It felt more like a holiday resort than a peaceful yoga retreat. In the evening, there was a lot of noise coming from the room above me with whining kids and loud cartoons on the TV. It was pretty annoying for a yoga retreat!

The selection of yoga classes was very limited. I was expecting to be able to join classes whenever I wanted, but they only offered Kundalini yoga.

On the bright side, I loved the service! I felt really special and pampered during my stay. The staff was wonderful, helpful, and friendly. The food was great, and the quality of the yoga lessons and teachers was top-notch.

This family hotel is actually run by an ashram, not a yoga retreat. They try to sell you extra packages. The classes they promised on the website weren’t actually available, and they would cancel them if not enough people signed up. I came here looking for a break, but ended up having to ask for things that were supposed to be included. I wanted to connect with others on a yoga retreat, but ended up feeling alone.

To make matters worse, there was another group from Italy taking over the yoga studio during my few classes. The location is far from Ubud and the shuttle service is limited and inconvenient if you want to go into town for dinner.

I would recommend reconsidering this place as a yoga retreat since there aren’t many classes or activities. The setting outside of Ubud is peaceful and the village atmosphere is nice to experience. It was interesting to see the rice farmers at work.

I attended a yoga retreat at this place and let me tell you, it’s not quite like the yoga retreats I’ve been to. It’s more of a resort that offers yoga. People are always on their screens here – at breakfast, by the pool, everywhere. The type of yoga they teach is kundalini, which is pretty specific. The instructors are really advanced and don’t give much direction. It could be confusing for beginners, which is a shame because some in my class were new to yoga. It would’ve been better if the instructors knew how to lead a class and spoke better English. I was also expecting two yoga classes a day with my package, but there was only one. On top of that, they didn’t offer two classes a day. The food and the setting were great, and the service was excellent, but I wish it was closer to Ubud – it’s a 15-minute drive.

I teach yoga in the United States and have experience with many different styles. In my opinion, some instructors want you to follow their exact movements, but I believe that yoga should be your own practice. Also, some instructors may push you into poses that might not be suitable for everyone.

When it comes to food, be careful if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions. I am lactose intolerant and despite repeatedly saying, ‘no cheese,’ I was still served it. There wasn’t much variety, and there were additional costs for some items.

The massages were amazing and all the therapists were fantastic. However, I wouldn’t recommend getting a mani-pedi as things seemed a bit unsanitary.

    1) We asked for the yoga instructor to teach on Thursday because we really liked him, but the staff said no and mentioned a different instructor would be teaching. However, the lady instructor didn’t show up and a different guy taught the class instead.

    2) The staff assured us the foot massage would last one hour, but it only ended up being 15 minutes, throwing off our schedule. They then promised to book us a body and foot massage at 1pm, but the appointment was pushed to 2pm instead.
