Food fuels the human body and provides life-giving energy. The quality and types of food you eat affect your physical and mental well-being. In yoga, food is seen as more than just nutrition for the body. A proper diet is essential for a complete yogic practice, considering the energetic aspect of nutrition. Have you noticed how the food you eat impacts your yoga practice? Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, explains the effects of different foods on your overall well-being. According to Ayurveda, “Sattva” represents purity in both self-control and spiritual well-being, seen through intelligence, virtue, awareness, and happiness. Sattvic foods promote purity in mind and body, nourishing the mind, promoting clarity, compassion, and calmness. They also sharpen your intellect and are light and easy to digest. A sattvic diet is enriched with prana or purity, fostering positive thoughts and mind satisfaction. Following such a diet can keep you alert, refreshed, and peaceful. February 19, 2024 at 12:00 amThis yoga retreat was not what I expected. I stayed at a yoga school where I had the option to join some classes from the 300h TTC group. It made me, the other students, and the teachers uncomfortable. The 4 people who signed up for the retreat didn’t receive any check-in, introductions, schedule, or dedicated teachers. Instead, we were expected to participate in classes where others were training to become teachers. I am already a teacher and was hoping for intermediate or advanced classes, or at least classes tailored to me and the retreat attendees. The school itself was great with fantastic facilities and a nice location. The staff and teachers were wonderful. It’s just a shame that the “retreat” wasn’t advertised properly.

February 15, 2024 at 12:00 amUnfortunately, it was not a retreat at all. The place was actually a Yoga school and you had to join the classes. There were moments when I felt completely lost in the classes and I definitely wouldn’t suggest it for beginners. I can’t comment on the school itself – the students appeared happy and the teachers were good, they just weren’t aware of our arrival.
I had hoped for a dedicated yoga teacher just for the retreat participants, so we could fully enjoy the classes without disrupting the regular students. The accommodations were good and the staff at the school were friendly.

December 12, 2023 at 12:00 amI didn’t have any specific dislikes, but everyone else at the retreat seemed surprised to see me because I was the only one doing a yoga retreat while they were all doing yoga teacher training. Despite that, I had a great time because I approached it with a positive attitude and a desire to learn. The staff at Bali Yoga School really impressed me with their politeness and helpfulness. They made me feel incredibly welcome. Even though I’m not vegan, I absolutely loved the delicious food they served at every meal. The fruits were incredibly sweet and the other dishes had such tasty flavors, with fun names too.

November 18, 2023 at 12:00 amI didn’t retreat; I spent 5 days doing it alone before I joined a group of 10 people to complete the 200 hours in one month. They had been doing yoga every day for two weeks already and their goal was to become teachers, so their skill level was different from mine. It wasn’t exactly relaxing because the main focus of the 200 hours was to learn quickly and obtain the certification, rather than simply enjoying the yoga practice as I had anticipated. Maybe they should inform people who are interested in the retreat about the type of group they would be joining. By the way, the place is absolutely amazing, the staff is fantastic, and the rooms are really nice.

May 15, 2023 at 12:00 amThe accommodation wasn’t great. It was expensive for what it offered – loud and narrow. There wasn’t much space for us to relax and have some privacy. However, the food was good, although it was always the same. The teachers were excellent, and the people there were nice, available, kind, and helpful. Despite the accommodation, everything went well overall.

February 14, 2023 at 12:00 amThe instructors were really nice and had a positive approach. I learned a lot in just two weeks. The classes flowed really well and we even had longer breaks after lunch to rest or relax before the next class. I highly recommend this place and the people working here because everyone is super friendly and helpful. It’s such a peaceful and relaxing environment. I will definitely come back for another class when I’m in Bali. Thank you for giving me such a wonderful experience.

May 16, 2022 at 12:00 amThe 300hr Yoga Teacher training with Himalayan Yoga Ashram is absolutely incredible. I highly recommend it. They covered everything in such depth and detail – from the physical yoga practices to anatomy classes to discussions on philosophy, meditation, breathing techniques, Mudra practice, and Ayurveda. It was impressive.
I learned so much from a traditional perspective, which I really appreciated. The anatomy classes were especially great because they explained how the body works in a way that actually made sense. It wasn’t just memorization, but actual understanding.
The feedback on assignments was also really helpful. It was constructive and encouraging, which made me reflect on my own growth as a student.
After completing the course, my love and appreciation for yoga grew even more. Plus, I feel so much more prepared and confident to teach in a classroom setting. It truly inspired me to keep learning and practicing yoga.

You can watch the pre-recorded training videos whenever and wherever you want, at your own speed. The daily zoom live classes are great for getting a deeper understanding of different yoga topics, and you can ask the teachers any questions you have. I really hope to visit Rishikesh one day. Thanks a lot for the fantastic course, and a big shoutout to Saumya-ji!

December 23, 2021 at 12:00 amThank you so much for this amazing experience! I participated in the 300hr Online Yogateacher Training in November and it was absolutely fantastic. The Yoga Theorie liveclasses were so clear and organized, and the information was spot on. I loved immersing myself in yoga for a whole month. Surprisingly, I also connected with the other students in the course and it felt like a close-knit community, which I didn’t expect from an online training. It was such a pleasant surprise. I also really enjoyed the practical live classes and I’m thrilled to have delved into Ashstanga Yoga. The small groups in this online yoga teacher training made it feel more personal and less like a faceless experience, so I felt comfortable asking all my questions during the live classes. Thank you to Bali Yoga School and HYA for everything. Namaste!

November 29, 2021 at 12:00 amHonestly, I loved everything. The food was delicious, and as a vegetarian, I didn’t feel like I needed anything else (maybe just an espresso for a little pick-me-up!). The place was so peaceful and I really enjoyed being there. My experience with the teachers was amazing. I learned so much from Shanti ji, Ida ji, and Niki ji. I am incredibly grateful to have met these beautiful souls in my life. Dewa ji made me feel at home. I am 100% happy with my experience, and all the memories I made at Bali Yoga School will stay in my heart forever. I wish I could have stayed longer. Best of luck to you all. Thank you so much.

March 30, 2020 at 12:00 amI felt a lack of protein in the meals because I’m not vegetarian. It wasn’t enough for the physical effort required, and as a result, I personally lost a lot of weight, which isn’t positive in my case.
The rooms should be cleaned better, especially the areas with insects.
I would have liked to stay longer, but I will definitely come back. ??
The place is beautiful, and the schedule is perfect. The food is very nice and delicious.
The teachers are just amazing. They made me feel comfortable right away, and despite their young age, they perfectly master their work, both in theory and in practice. Neelam Ji is funny and passionate. Durgesh Ji is calm and soothing. Rahul Ji is very professional and patient, and lastly, Ankit Ji, my favorite teacher, is fun and challenging. They bring a breath of fresh air to the classroom. Thank you all four for your kindness, patience, and the passion you put into your work. Ankit ji and Rahul ji are both very professional and knowledgeable. They have a lot of knowledge to pass on. I’ve learned more than I expected. I especially want to thank Durgesh ji and Dewa ji for taking good care of all the students. The accommodation was lovely and all the staff were so welcoming. I loved having the local family living next to us. It made me feel like a local. It was also my first time transitioning to a vegetarian diet, but the food was so delicious and there were various options. It actually helped me lower my fat and build muscle. February 25, 2020 at 12:00 amI read reviews before starting the program in January and learned that the program had undergone significant changes in terms of food and syllabus. However, I was disappointed to find out that the changes didn’t align with my expectations. The food provided was high in carbs and lacked nutrition. Despite being assured that they could accommodate my celiac condition, they didn’t fully understand what a gluten-free diet entailed, which caused me to fall sick frequently. Additionally, I noticed a mismatch between the goals of the students and the teachers. Therefore, I do not recommend this training for 300-hour students. On a positive note, I did enjoy the opportunity to spend time doing yoga.

February 25, 2020 at 12:00 amThe school was a complete mess and lacked professionalism, resulting in subpar teaching that was far below the standards expected for a 200-hour qualification. The tutors changed a whopping five times during the course and were shockingly young and inexperienced in teaching teachers. Not helping the situation, they often showed up late, causing students to also arrive late. The management of this school was utterly unprofessional. They didn’t even bother conducting an exam on how to teach yoga properly. Instead of teaching us how to deliver a class as teachers, they merely held yoga classes. On top of all this, the food served was extremely poor.
To add insult to injury, some students managed to miss multiple classes and still received a certificate at the end of the course. It’s absurd! Additionally, the excursions were not held at the advertised locations, and we were expected to pay for them even though they were supposed to be included in our package. It’s clear that this school is more concerned with making money than with providing education or fostering a high standard of teaching.
To make matters worse, the owner was unhelpful and unapproachable. He spent an excessive amount of time with one particular student, which calls into question his abilities as a yoga teacher and a professional manager of a yoga school. However, I must say that Ubud is a beautiful place to visit.
Despite all the problems, Durgesh, Dewa, Ankit, and Rahul, who tried their best to address the numerous issues within the school, were wonderful individuals.

February 25, 2020 at 12:00 amThe school had a very disorganised and unprofessional vibe, with a very low standard of teaching. Before the classes started, they didn’t even add up to 200 hours. The tutors were always late, which made the students demotivated and they started showing up late as well, making the classes even shorter. There was even a class cancelled just because it was raining, even though it was the rainy season! So, the hours got reduced even more.
The yoga classes were just regular yoga classes, without any focus on teaching yoga. Apart from two sequencing lessons, we weren’t really shown how to teach yoga. The most concerning part was that we were never assessed on our yoga teaching or even asked to teach.
A lot of students missed numerous classes, I would say around 40% of them, and still managed to pass and become “qualified yoga teachers.”
There were 5 changes in tutors for various classes including Astanga, meditation, alignment, and pranayama. These changes happened without any warning or explanation, not even to the tutor.
I had two instances where another student started sobbing in my arms because the tutors had confronted her when she complained to the management.
The food was terrible, very basic and bland, and there was never enough. It was hard to find something I liked about this school because almost every aspect was a disappointment. However, the pool at the accommodation was quite nice, and the manager there was very helpful. I felt that she was actually embarrassed about the poor quality of food that the yoga school suggested. Most of the other students had nice accommodations, but my friend and I were placed in a different location where our rooms had a lot of mold. When I checked out, I even found some of my clothes covered in mold, but the manager was very helpful and promptly got them cleaned.

February 23, 2020 at 12:00 amAnatomy and Philosophy classes lack organization. I found it more helpful to Google the information and watch YouTube videos, which were clearer than what the teacher said. The notes on the 5 Kleshas, for example, could easily be found on a website, and they only briefly covered the 7 chakras.
One of the meditation teachers unexpectedly left a message through WhatsApp. We were informed by another teacher without receiving an official notice. There was no backup plan in case a teacher got sick, and they just expected us to study on our own. What would happen if the teacher was sick for a few days?
We had to switch pranayama teachers in the middle of the course, and then switch again. These teachers had no communication with each other, so they didn’t know what the other teacher had already taught.
I came to Bali to learn how to be a teacher, but we didn’t have much time for teaching practice. We didn’t come here just to practice yoga, as we could do that in our home country. The school should provide instruction on how to teach yoga so that students can practice teaching, not just practicing yoga.
All the students from the 100 hours, 200 hours, 300 hours, and 500 hours programs were grouped together, even though we were learning almost the same things. They should have separate classes for different levels of experience in yoga.
The course lacked organization, and what I learned was not enough to become a teacher. The lead trainer was not able to effectively guide the course.
The food options were limited and lacked variety.
Ankit and Rahul, although young, have a strong passion for teaching. Especially Rahul, who is willing to spend extra time teaching advanced poses.
The course coordinator, Deva, did his best to address and resolve the issues.

February 17, 2020 at 12:00 amI found the training to be pretty disappointing. I was hoping to gain more practical teaching knowledge, but I feel like I didn’t learn much at all. Some of the teachers seemed inexperienced and lacked training in actually teaching others, despite being good at their own personal practices. The lack of structure and coordination among the teachers was evident throughout the entire program. It felt like we didn’t receive what was promised in the syllabus. Many participants were inexperienced as well, so we wasted a lot of time on basic things. Overall, it felt more like a retreat than an actual yoga teacher training. I was also disappointed by how they combined the 100hr, 200hr, and 300hr classes together. The 300 hour program was basically the same as the 200 hour, with participants taking almost every class together. If I had signed up for the 300 hour program, I would have definitely asked for a refund. The management and scheduling was a mess too. It just wasn’t a well-structured or in-depth program. I want to believe that the instructors are all good-hearted individuals and I wish them the best, but I truly feel like I didn’t get my money’s worth. Also, the so-called “included excursions” ended up being just transportation to the actual activity, which we still had to pay for. There was very little communication about this aspect. On the positive side, the accommodation was nice and the food provided was good and nutritious. The instructors were all kind individuals, albeit young.

January 30, 2020 at 12:00 amThe Philosophy classes didn’t have as much discussion as I expected and the Anatomy classes lacked practical knowledge. It seemed like the focus was more on self-development than teaching others.
There was a bit of miscommunication from the start. I had booked private accommodation and confirmed through email, but when I arrived, I was told I had to share for a night. I ended up staying somewhere else for that night to avoid sharing. It was an inconvenience that I didn’t appreciate.
The program was also poorly managed. Classes often started late because the teacher was late, and some classes were even canceled without a backup plan due to teacher illness or bad weather. When I gave feedback, some teachers took it seriously and made improvements, but others made me feel like I was causing trouble. That was disappointing.
The food was good initially, but then it became repetitive after a week. Be prepared for Thursday afternoons and Sundays off, and also be prepared for lots of mosquitoes.
Our Vinyasa teacher, Rahul Ji, was amazing. He was full of energy and passionate about sharing his knowledge. I really enjoyed his classes. We also learned a lot about traditional adjustment techniques, which were fun to try on each other. Ankit Ji’s alignment classes were clear and detailed, and he always made sure we understood everything. I appreciated how he mixed theory into his practical Ashtanga classes. Aylan Ji’s Pranayama classes were delivered beautifully, and her personal journey in yoga was inspiring. Durgesh Ji’s meditation classes were exceptional. They were well-structured and explained, and I enjoyed every minute of them.
We had different teachers for Meditation, Alignment, Pranayama, and Ashtanga, which gave us a chance to experience different teaching styles.
We stayed at Puri Suksma, which was a beautiful place surrounded by nature. We had visits from monkeys, squirrels, ants, and butterflies. It felt like living in a National Geographic documentary.
I met incredible people from all over the world and learned so much from them. This program has helped me make new friends, become more aware of my body, discover new aspects of myself, and become a better yoga practitioner. I’m truly grateful for that.

January 30, 2020 at 12:00 amThe food remained the same every day. Some classes lacked clarity on who had already taught, who hadn’t, and what level everyone was at. Consequently, they started from scratch for everyone, even those who were already instructors with 200 hours of experience. We engaged in ample practice, but never received instruction on how to structure a class or create a seamless flow. Upon asking the teacher about this, it was as if they were surprised to realize we were on a ‘teacher training’ course. While I gained substantial knowledge about philosophy during the 4 weeks there, I didn’t get a chance to actually lead a yoga class. As a result, I will have to conduct additional research on class structure on my own. Although the teachers were pleasant, the lack of structure in the classes was evident.

It would help with the tiredness from our morning exercises and improve our concentration. I love how this experience brings me back to a simpler way of living – a simple mind, expectations, resources, and especially food, as well as relaxing environments.
I’m grateful for all the hard work and preparation the teachers have put into our classes. I’ve learned so much from Rahul Ji and Ankit Ji in Yoga Asanas, Aylan Ji in Types of Breathing, and Durgesh Ji in Meditation. It feels like I’ve been here for a really long time and I don’t want to leave.

They were incredibly accommodating, always ready to assist with anything I needed. The guest house itself was delightful, providing a charming atmosphere and a beautiful pool. May 16, 2019 at 12:00 amWell, first of all, I received an email with the address of a new location in Bali at the last moment. When I arrived late at night, I had a hard time finding the new place and couldn’t find a phone number for the course leaders online. To my terrible surprise, the place I arrived at didn’t match the pictures from the retreats ad. The pictures were misleading and caused distress for me and the whole group. I was shocked because I had traveled a long way and already paid a deposit online. I even considered leaving. The accommodations and yoga studio were unsatisfactory, which really affected my initial impression of the YYT and their staff. It took some time for the bad vibes to subside. We discussed the issues as a group and the course leader made changes to our accommodations and arranged for us to have morning practices at a much nicer yoga studio. The food started off great, but eventually it became less impressive in terms of presentation and variety. The cleanliness of all areas was also a problem. It was a shame that we had to deal with such disorganization and unprofessional management at the beginning of our journey to become Yoga Certified Trainers.
Now, let me tell you about Bali. It’s such a special city, filled with warm and smiling people. As for the YTT, I have to say that the instructors made it all worthwhile. Their deep knowledge and positive energy helped me get through the strict yet rewarding schedule. I want to give a special shoutout to Guru Pradeep Ji. He has an incredible way of explaining postures and alignment. His expertise, along with the other teachers’ guidance and energy, truly made the course valuable. The delicious vegetarian meals were also a highlight. But what really made this experience special was the bond we formed as a group. It’s amazing how you can create unforgettable moments and connections with people you just met. Despite the short and intense course, the time spent with all these incredible individuals is truly priceless.

May 11, 2019 at 12:00 amWe just completed the 200-hour Teacher Training with the Bali Yoga School, which is associated with the Himalayan Yoga Association in Rishikesh, India. We were on the lookout for a yoga school that could provide us with genuine knowledge and we found exactly that. The teaching staff did an incredible job of imparting this knowledge throughout the course.
Our days started with the Shatkarama (cleansing process) followed by Ashtanga yoga led by the fantastic teacher, Pradeep ji. He has an extensive understanding of yoga anatomy and alignment, and his expertise was evident in the instructions we received. Over the course of four weeks, we learned three new asanas every day and made gradual progress through the Primary series of Ashtanga Yoga.
Meditation and philosophy were the highlights of our day. We had the privilege of learning from the humble Johsan ji, who taught complex topics in a lighthearted manner for easy understanding.
Cinthia’s Vinyasa flow classes were also great. She provided valuable insights on sequencing, teaching cues, and encouraged everyone to teach, making the practical assessments much more enjoyable.
Our accommodations were comfortable, with hot water, air conditioning, and access to a communal pool. We also had a designated study area at night. The catering service organized by the yoga school provided delicious vegetarian and gluten-free meals, with breakfast being particularly noteworthy.

May 1, 2019 at 12:00 amThe teachers at this yoga school are the most positive aspect. They are lovely individuals who are filled with energy, passion, and dedication. They know how to motivate the students, possess a wealth of knowledge, and genuinely enjoy sharing their time with new yogis. They always have a smile on their faces and are readily available to help in any way. They truly inspired me and provided the strength I needed to continue on this path and remain focused. Each person at the school gave a piece of their soul, and I have countless fond memories of the time I spent with fellow students and all the teachers. I am incredibly grateful to have discovered such a wonderful new family. Thank you, teachers, for simply being great!

April 20, 2019 at 12:00 amThe food was good, and I never went hungry as a vegan. Sometimes, the choice was limited, but towards the end of the course, they started understanding how to improve our food options. I hope they take that knowledge on board so that future vegan students can benefit. By the way, I’m actually English, not from the States!
I was impressed by how adaptable the teachers were to our requests for schedule changes that suited our needs. Dewa did an excellent job organizing our Sunday sightseeing trips, making our stay even more memorable in various ways. Their philosophy was all about ensuring we had an amazing experience. I also want to mention Cynthia, our Ashtanga flow teacher. She was awesome – incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and so much fun! ?
