Food is important and provides energy to the human body. The quality and types of food affect your physical and mental well-being. From a yogic perspective, food is more than just nutrition for the body. In order to practice yoga properly, you need to supplement your body with nutrients and consider the energetic aspect of nutrition when choosing your diet. Have you ever noticed how your food intake affects your yoga practice? Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, teaches us about the impact of different foods on our physical, spiritual, and mental well-being. According to Ayurveda, “Sattva” represents purity in terms of self-control and spiritual well-being. Foods that are sattvic promote purity in both mind and body. They help nurture the mind, making it clear, compassionate, and calm. A sattvic diet also sharpens the intellect. The Bhagavad-Gita states that a sattvic diet is light and easy to digest, and it fosters positive thoughts and satisfaction of the mind. Following such a diet can help you stay alert, refreshed, and peaceful. During the course, we provide students with tasty vegan meals three times a day. Our experienced kitchen team prepares the food hygienically and with love. Meals are served buffet style and include a variety of delicious vegetarian dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

February 19, 2024 at 12:00 amThis yoga retreat wasn’t what I expected. I had a room at a yoga school where I could take classes from the 300h TTC group. The situation was uncomfortable for myself, the other students, and the teachers. The 4 people running the retreat didn’t give us a proper check-in, introduction, or schedule. We were forced to attend classes where others were training to become teachers. I’m already a teacher and was looking forward to intermediate or advanced classes, or at least classes tailored to our group. The school itself was great, with wonderful facilities and a good location. It’s a shame the retreat wasn’t advertised accurately. The staff and teachers were lovely though.

February 15, 2024 at 12:00 amUnfortunately, the retreat turned out to be a Yoga school where we had to join the classes. I felt lost at times during the classes and I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners. The school itself seemed fine – the students appeared happy and the teachers were good, they just weren’t expecting us. I wish there had been a separate yoga teacher for the retreat guests so we could fully enjoy the classes without disturbing the regular students. The accommodation was good and the staff at the school were friendly.

December 12, 2023 at 12:00 amI didn’t really dislike anything in particular. It’s just that everyone else at the retreat was surprised to see me because I was the only one doing a yoga retreat while they were all doing yoga teacher training. But despite that, I had a great time because I had a positive attitude and was eager to learn. The staff at Bali Yoga School were amazing, they were always polite and helpful. They made me feel really welcome. I’m not even vegan, but I absolutely loved the food they served at every meal. The fruits were incredibly sweet and the other dishes had delicious flavors and catchy names.

November 18, 2023 at 12:00 amI didn’t go on a retreat. I spent 5 days alone and then joined a group of 10 people to complete the 200-hour yoga training in just one month. They had been practicing yoga every day for two weeks and their goal was to become teachers, so their level was different from mine. It wasn’t a relaxing experience because the main purpose of the training was to learn quickly and obtain the degree, rather than enjoying the practice of yoga as I had expected. Perhaps it would be helpful to inform the people interested in going on the retreat about the type of group they would be joining. By the way, the place was really amazing, the staff was fantastic, and the room was really nice.

May 15, 2023 at 12:00 amThe accommodation wasn’t great… and it was expensive for what we got. It was loud and cramped. There wasn’t much space to relax and have our own privacy. The food was good but monotonous. However, the teachers were excellent, and the people there were friendly, approachable, and always willing to assist. Despite some setbacks, everything went well in the end.

February 14, 2023 at 12:00 amThe instructors were really nice with a positive approach. I learned a lot in just two weeks. The classes flowed smoothly. We had nice long breaks to rest or relax between lunch and the next class. I highly recommend this place and the people working there. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. It’s such a peaceful and relaxing place. I’ll definitely come back for another class when I’m in Bali. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

May 16, 2022 at 12:00 amI highly recommend the 300hr Yoga Teacher training with Himalayan Yoga Ashram. Everything was amazing! The course provided comprehensive and in-depth information on various topics, including daily physical yoga practices, technical anatomy classes, and detailed discussions on yoga philosophy, meditation, breathing techniques, Mudra practice, and Ayurveda.
I was truly impressed by how much I learned during the course. The teachers did a fantastic job of providing traditional knowledge instead of just mainstream yoga. The anatomy classes were particularly great, as they taught me about the mechanics of the body in a relatable way. It was so much better than simply learning without really understanding.
The feedback on assignments was constructive and encouraging. It really made me reflect on my own development as a student. After completing the course, my love and appreciation for yoga grew even deeper. It also gave me the confidence to teach in a classroom setting and inspired me to continue learning and practicing yoga.

May 2, 2022 at 12:00 amThe N.A. Himalayan Yoga Association gives us a comprehensive and thorough teaching manual. We can watch the pre-recorded training videos whenever and wherever we want, at our own speed. The daily zoom live classes help us understand different yoga topics, and we can ask the teachers any questions we may have. I really hope to visit Rishikesh someday. I’m grateful for this amazing course, and a big thank you to Saumya-ji.

December 23, 2021 at 12:00 amThank you so much for this amazing experience! I participated in the 300hr Online Yogateacher Training in November and it was truly wonderful. The Yoga Theory live classes were so clear and organized, and the information was spot-on. I absolutely loved immersing myself in yoga for the whole month.
Surprisingly, I also formed bonds with the other students in the course. It felt like a small community, which was really unexpected for an online training. It was such a pleasant surprise.
The practical live classes were a highlight for me as well, especially as I delved into Ashstanga Yoga. The smaller groups made the online yoga teacher training feel more personal and less like just another anonymous class. I felt comfortable asking all the questions I had during the live classes.
A huge thank you to Bali Yoga School and HYA for providing this incredible opportunity. I am incredibly grateful. Namaste.

November 29, 2021 at 12:00 amHonestly, I liked everything. The food was nice, and as a vegetarian, I didn’t feel like I needed anything more (except maybe an espresso ?). The place was so peaceful and I loved it. My experience with the teachers was amazing. I learned a lot from Shanti ji, Ida ji, and Niki ji. I’m so grateful to have met these beautiful souls in my life. Dewa ji made me feel at home. I am 100% happy with my experience, and all my memories with Bali Yoga School will stay in my heart forever. I wish I could stay longer. I wish you all the best. Thank you! ?? ?

March 31, 2020 at 12:00 amHey, just a heads up! The tropical weather here can make mosquitoes a bit annoying at times, so don’t forget to bring some mosquito spray. Let me tell you, this school is absolutely stunning and has a great location. The staff here are super helpful and friendly, and the teachers are top-notch professionals. Oh, and you have to try the Balinese vegetarian meals they serve here – they’re yummy and they offer different varieties every day. I had such a great time studying here that I’ll definitely be recommending it to my friends.

March 30, 2020 at 12:00 amI didn’t feel enough protein in the meals because I’m not a vegetarian. It wasn’t enough for the physical effort required, and as a result, I personally lost a lot of weight, which is not positive in my case.
They should clean the rooms better, especially the areas with insects.
I would have liked to stay longer, but I will definitely come back. ??
The place is beautiful, the schedule is perfect, and the food is amazing.
The teachers are just incredible. They made me feel comfortable right away, and despite their young age, they mastered their work perfectly, whether in theory or practice. Neelam Ji is funny and passionate. Durgesh Ji is calm and soothing. Rahul Ji is very professional and patient. And lastly, Ankit Ji, my favorite teacher, is fun and challenging. He brings a breath of fresh air to the class. Thank you to all four of you for your kindness, patience, and passion for your work. I will not hesitate to do the experience again with the same teachers. ❤️?

Special thanks to Durgesh ji and Dewa ji for taking such good care of all the students. The accommodation was lovely, and the staff were so welcoming. I especially loved the local family who lived next to us. I felt like a local while traveling. February 25, 2020 at 12:00 amI read some reviews previously that mentioned how the program had changed dramatically with regards to the food and syllabus. I did my program in January and I know they’ve now changed the location and food, but it wasn’t at all what I expected. The food they provided was packed with carbs and didn’t feel very nutritious. Despite being assured that they could accommodate my celiac condition, they didn’t seem to understand what ‘gluten-free’ actually meant, which resulted in me getting sick quite often. Moreover, it felt like there was a lack of alignment between the goals of the students and the teachers. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend this training for 300hr students. On the bright side, one thing I did enjoy was the opportunity to really immerse myself in yoga!

February 25, 2020 at 12:00 amThe school lacked organization and professionalism, which affected the quality of teaching for a 200-hour qualification. Throughout the course, tutors changed five times and they were young and inexperienced in teaching teachers. Additionally, tutors would frequently arrive late, causing students to be late as well. The management of this school was unprofessional as no exam on teaching yoga was conducted. The yoga classes focused solely on practicing yoga and did not teach how to deliver a class as a teacher. The food provided was extremely poor. Surprisingly, some students who missed multiple classes still received a certificate at the end of the course. The excursions were not as advertised on the website, and participants were expected to pay for them despite them being included in the package. This school seemed more focused on making money rather than educating and helping students become good teachers. The owner was unhelpful and unapproachable, as he spent too much time with a particular student, raising doubts about his qualifications as a yoga teacher and manager. However, it’s worth mentioning that Ubud is a lovely place to visit. Durgesh, Dewa, Ankit, and Rahul were wonderful individuals who genuinely tried their best to address the numerous issues present in the school.
Helpful ReviewJan Smith
February 25, 2020 at 12:00 amThe school had a lot of disorganization, unprofessionalism, and a low level of teaching. The classes they provided didn’t even add up to 200 hours. The tutors were always late, which made the students lose motivation and start showing up later, resulting in shorter classes. They even cancelled one class because it was raining, even though it was the rainy season. This meant even fewer hours of instruction.
The yoga classes were just regular yoga classes. We weren’t really taught how to “teach” yoga, except for two sequencing lessons. What’s even more concerning is that we weren’t evaluated on our yoga teaching or even asked to teach yoga.
A good number of students missed a lot of classes, maybe around 40%, and yet they still passed and are now considered “qualified yoga teachers.”
There were five instances where the teachers for the Astanga class, the meditation class, the alignment class, and the pranayama class changed, and then changed back, without any warning or explanation, not even to the tutor.
I had two experiences where another student cried in my arms because the tutors confronted her for complaining to management.
The food was awful – it was basic, tasteless, and there was never enough of it.
Normally, I wouldn’t write a review, but I genuinely believe that this school not only offers a terrible experience for students who pay a lot of money, but it could also be dangerous because they’re certifying people who aren’t ready to teach yoga.
Honestly, I think this is a terrible school that was only created to make money. It’s hard to find anything positive to say because almost every aspect was disappointing. The only thing I can think of is that the pool at the accommodation was nice, and the manager of the accommodation was very helpful. I got the impression that she was embarrassed about the low-quality food that the yoga school recommended. Most of the other students had nice accommodations, but my friend and I were placed in a separate area where our rooms had a lot of mold. When I checked out, I realized some of my clothes had mold on them, but the manager was quick to help and got them cleaned right away.

February 23, 2020 at 12:00 amThe Anatomy and Philosophy classes are poorly organized. I could easily find clearer information by searching online and watching YouTube videos. The notes only briefly mentioned the 5 Kleshas and barely covered the 7 chakras. One of the meditation teachers abruptly left and only left a message through WhatsApp. We were informed by another teacher without any official notice. There is no contingency plan or backup in case a teacher falls ill. They expect students to study on our own, but what if the teacher is sick for a few days?
During the course, we had to switch pranayama teachers not once, but twice. There was no communication between these teachers, so they had no idea what the other had already taught.
I came to Bali to learn how to be a teacher, but we didn’t have enough time for teaching practice. We didn’t come here just to practice yoga, as we can do that in our home countries. The school should focus on teaching us how to teach yoga, not solely practicing it.
The school mixed all the 100 hours, 200 hours, 300 hours, and 500 hours students together, even though we were learning almost the same thing. They should have separated us into different classes based on our yoga level.
Overall, the course was disorganized and I didn’t feel like I learned enough to become a teacher. The lead trainer was unable to effectively lead the course. Additionally, the food options were limited and lacked variety.
However, there were two bright spots in the course: Ankit and Rahul. Despite being young, they have a passion for teaching. Rahul, in particular, is willing to spend extra time teaching us advanced poses. The course coordinator, Deva, did his best to address the issues and take action.

February 17, 2020 at 12:00 amI was really disappointed with the training. I was hoping to learn practical teaching skills, but it felt like I didn’t learn much at all. Some of the teachers seemed inexperienced and didn’t know how to effectively teach others, despite having a strong personal practice. There was no structure or coordination between the teachers, and it didn’t match what the syllabus promised. It felt more like a retreat than an actual yoga teacher training. They mixed the different levels of classes together, so the 300 hour program was basically the same as the 200 hour. I would have been really upset if that was the program I signed up for. The management and scheduling were a mess too. Overall, the program lacked depth and structure.
Helpful ReviewI believe the instructors are good people with good intentions, but I don’t think I got my money’s worth. The “included excursions” were just transportation, and we had to pay for everything once we got there. There wasn’t much communication about that either. On the bright side, the accommodation was nice and the food was good and healthy. The instructors were all young but kind-hearted.

January 30, 2020 at 12:00 amThe Philosophy classes didn’t have as much discussion as I hoped, and the Anatomy classes lacked practical knowledge. It felt like the focus of the course was more on self-development than teaching others.
From the start, there were communication issues. I had booked private accommodation and confirmed it through email, but when I arrived, I was told I had to share for a night. Thankfully, I found another place to stay and didn’t have to share, but I wasn’t happy about the confusion.
The program was also poorly managed. Classes often started late because the teacher would show up late, and some classes were canceled without any backup plans due to teacher illness or bad weather. When I gave feedback, some teachers took it seriously and made improvements, while others made me feel like I was causing trouble. That didn’t sit well with me.
The food was good at first, but it got repetitive after a week. Just be prepared for Thursdays and Sundays off and being bothered by lots of mosquitoes.
Rahul Ji, our Vinyasa teacher, was amazing. His classes were full of energy, and he shared his knowledge of yoga with passion. I really enjoyed learning traditional adjustment techniques from him. Ankit Ji’s alignment classes were clear and detailed, and he made sure we understood everything. I also appreciated how he mixed in some theory with the practical classes. Aylan Ji taught us Pranayama, and her classes were delivered beautifully. Her journey in yoga was inspiring. Durgesh Ji’s meditation classes were exceptional. They were well-structured, explained thoroughly, and incredibly enjoyable.
We had different teachers for meditation, alignment, Pranayama, and Ashtanga, and experiencing different teaching styles was beneficial.
We stayed at Puri Suksma, a place surrounded by nature. It was an incredible environment to practice and study yoga. We even had visits from monkeys, squirrels, ants, and butterflies. It felt like living in a National Geographic documentary.
I met amazing people from all over the world and learned so much from them. After completing this program, I’ve made new friends, become more aware of my body, discovered new aspects of myself, and improved as a yoga practitioner. I’m truly grateful for this experience.

January 30, 2020 at 12:00 amThe food was the same every day, and we had some classes that were pointless. It was frustrating because there was no understanding of who had already taught, who hadn’t, or what level people were at. It felt like we had to start from the beginning for everything, even for those who already had 200 hours of teaching experience.
We did a lot of practice, but we weren’t taught how to structure a class or put a flow together. When we asked the teacher about it, they seemed shocked to think we were on a ‘teacher training’ course. Although I gained knowledge about philosophy and other topics during the 4 weeks we were there, I never got the chance to teach a yoga class. Now, I have to do more research on how to structure a class because we weren’t taught that. The teachers were really nice, but there was no structure to the classes at all.

January 16, 2020 at 12:00 amI really wish the school would provide coffee for afternoon/before lunch class. It would help with the tiredness from morning exercises and improve concentration. I love how this experience takes me back to simplicity, like simplicity of the mind, expectations, resources, especially food, and relaxing locations. I’m grateful for all the hard work and preparation the teachers have put in. Learned so much from Rahul Ji & Ankit Ji in Yoga Asanas, Aylan Ji in Types of Breathing, and Durgesh Ji in Meditation. It feels like I’ve been here for so long and I don’t feel like leaving at all.

October 1, 2019 at 12:00 amFinding the Bali yoga school was tough – they have two locations. One is for teacher training, while the other is Dewa’s place for short retreats. Don’t forget to ask for directions. I spent a week at the retreat, which was managed by Dewa and his wife – they were amazing hosts. They made sure to take care of everything, no matter how small. May 16, 2019 at 12:00 amI finally received an email with the address of a new location in Bali, but it was sent at the last minute. When I arrived late at night, it was a struggle to find the place and I couldn’t find a phone number for the course leaders online. To my horror, the place I arrived at looked nothing like the pictures on the retreat ad. The misleading photos caused a lot of distress for me and the entire group. I was in complete shock because I had traveled so far and already paid a deposit online. At that point, I seriously considered just leaving. The accommodations and yoga space were both extremely disappointing. This really affected my overall impression of the YYT and their staff, making me lose trust in them. The negative feelings lasted for a while. However, we managed to address the issues as a group and the course leader helped us find new accommodations and a better yoga space for a few practices each week. The food started off good, with lots of variety, but unfortunately declined in quality and presentation. The cleanliness of the entire place was also unsatisfactory. It was truly disappointing to have such a disorganized and unprofessional start to our journey of becoming Yoga Certified Trainers.
On a positive note, Bali itself is a truly special place. The locals are incredibly friendly and always have a smile on their faces. Despite the difficulties with the YTT, the instructors were amazing and made it all worthwhile. Their extensive knowledge and positive energy kept me going through the rigorous yet rewarding schedule. I would especially like to thank Guru Pradeep Ji for his clear and detailed explanations of postures and alignment. His expertise, along with the other teachers’ contributions, really made the course valuable. Additionally, the delicious vegetarian meals were a definite highlight. But the real treasure was the shared experience with a group of strangers who became friends. The moments and memories we created together during the short but intense course are truly priceless.

May 11, 2019 at 12:00 amWe just finished our 200hour TT with Bali Yoga school, which is associated with the Himalayan Yoga Association in Rishikesh, India. We were on the lookout for a yoga school that could give us authentic knowledge of yoga. The teaching staff did an incredible job of delivering that throughout the course.
Every day, we started with Shatkarama (cleansing process), followed by Pradeep ji leading Ashtanga yoga. Pradeep ji is a fantastic teacher who has a deep understanding of yoga anatomy and alignment. His expertise in yoga science was evident in the instructions we received during our time at the school. Over the course of four weeks, we learned three new asanas every day and gradually progressed through the Primary series of Ashtanga Yoga.
Meditation and philosophy were our favorite part of the day. We had the opportunity to learn from the humble Johsan ji, who taught us in-depth topics with a lighthearted approach, making it easy for all of us to understand.
Cinthia’s Vinyasa flow classes were great. She provided valuable information on sequencing, teaching cues, and most importantly, encouraged everyone to teach. This made the practical assessment component of the Training a lot more enjoyable.
Our rooms were equipped with hot water, air conditioning, a communal pool, and a study area for nighttime studying. The food, which was provided by a caterer organized by the yoga school, was overall great. The breakfast, in particular, was excellent, and all meals were vegetarian and gluten-free.
In conclusion, it’s a fantastic school! Minal and Hesh

May 1, 2019 at 12:00 amThe teachers at this yoga school are absolutely the best thing about it. They are lovely people who are full of energy, passion, and dedication. They know how to motivate the students and have a wealth of knowledge that they love to share. They also enjoy spending time with new yogis and are always available to help. Their infectious smiles and willingness to assist have truly inspired me and given me the strength to continue on this path and stay focused. Each person in the school has given me a glimpse into their soul, and I have many beautiful memories of the time spent with fellow students and all the teachers. I feel grateful to have found a new, amazing family. Thank you, teachers! You are simply incredible!

April 20, 2019 at 12:00 amThe food was good, but as a vegan, I sometimes had limited choices. However, towards the end of the course, they started understanding how to improve our food options. Hopefully, they will take this knowledge on board for the benefit of future vegan students. I’m actually English, not from the States ? The teachers were impressive in their adaptability to our requests for schedule changes to suit our needs. Our Sunday sightseeing trips organized by Dewa were fantastic. He went out of his way to make our stay memorable in many ways. Their philosophy was to ensure we had an amazing experience. And let’s not forget about Cynthia, our Ashtanga flow teacher – she was awesome! She had incredible knowledge, was approachable, and made the classes so much fun! ?
