This course focuses on traditional Hatha yoga. Hatha yoga is a way of approaching life, with the asana practice being just one part of the eight limbs of the philosophy. Throughout the course, you will learn how to integrate the empathetic and spiritual practice of Hatha into your daily life. Vinyasa, a more modern form of yoga derived from Hatha Asana practice, emphasizes breathing with movement. Each movement in a Vinyasa flow is harmonized with an inhale or an exhale, making each class unique. You will also learn how to sequence beautiful Vinyasa flows that reflect your teaching style.
In addition to teaching Hatha philosophy, this course also covers traditional Ayurveda, including the Ayurvedic diet, understanding your Ayurvedic profile (doshas), and using Ayurveda for overall wellness. Understanding human anatomy and how yoga affects our bodies on a biological level is important for yoga teachers, and our course covers anatomy from both traditional and yogic perspectives.
This comprehensive training includes teachings on breathwork and meditation, as well as opportunities for additional healing experiences at an extra cost. La Casa Shambala encourages you to bring instruments for evening Kirtan sessions. By the end of the program, you will be a certified yoga instructor.
The teaching methods at La Casa Shambala provide an immersive yoga experience, focusing on interactive teaching and group dynamics. This course ensures a strong foundation in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, emphasizing alignment and movement through postures. The program also includes instruction on breathwork, meditation, and reflective self-analysis.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced teacher looking to deepen your knowledge, this course is suitable for you. La Casa Shambala prides itself on providing strong foundations through a curriculum that covers techniques, training, and practice; teaching methodology; anatomy and physiology; yoga philosophy, lifestyle, and ethics for yoga teachers; and practicum. The schedule is structured with a mix of Hatha and Vinyasa yoga classes, lectures, and teaching practice sessions.
When in Thailand, be mindful of local customs, such as avoiding showing the bottom of your feet, wearing appropriate attire in temples, refraining from touching people’s heads, and speaking respectfully. The schedule includes chanting, yoga practice, lectures, teaching methodology, free time, student teaching practice, Vinyasa Flow classes, Kirtans, and meals served at specific times throughout the day.
La Casa Shambala, located in the village of Wok Tum on the island of Koh Phangan in Thailand, offers a secluded retreat experience surrounded by gardens and lush jungle. The home gives you the chance to listen to your heart in silence. Situated in a permaculture community project, La Casa Shambala provides a nature-rich experience with the powerful energy of the jungle. Nearby places include Koh Phangan Government Hospital (350 meters away) and the main town of Thong Sala (10 minutes away).

February 5, 2024 at 12:00 amSome of us were disappointed that teacher training classes in yin and restorative style were not included in the curriculum, even though it was mentioned on the website. I had chosen this training specifically because of that. The substitute teacher’s classes did not meet my expectations, especially the low-quality anatomy classes. The accommodations needed a cozier touch with more lamps and flowers. The schedule was very tight with little quiet time for yourself. Susa’s incredible classes taught us things we had never learned in a yoga class before. She was passionate about providing us with as much knowledge as possible in a short time. Cecilia was always supportive and helped with organization. Ramiro and Leonie prepared meals with passion and love.

December 22, 2023 at 12:00 amI didn’t like the tight schedule. We only had 30 minutes after breakfast and 1 hour after lunch. But we had a full program from 7:30 am until 8:30 pm. I would have appreciated a little more time for myself to take in all the information. Also, the room for the theory classes is the yoga shala, so be prepared to be in one small room for 12 hours because it’s too cold and wet outside. I really missed walking though.
I really loved how everyone was involved in that amazing, life-changing experience. The mood of the group and the team was funny, light, and deeply connected and truthful. Ramido, our chef, was superb, Cecilia gave the location a soul, and Freddy, our Volunteer, was always there for jokes and to lend a helping hand.

December 20, 2023 at 12:00 amThe intense learning program mixed well with the yoga classes and theoretical lessons. The teachers, who were very experienced, had a personal approach. December 19, 2023 at 12:00 amEverything was perfect at this training! They organized everything so well, the facilities were amazing and clean, the teachers were incredible, the food was exceptional, and the classes were fantastic. I learned a lot and met some wonderful people. I highly recommend this training without hesitation. The location was peaceful and very tranquil. Big thanks to the manager Cecilia, yoga teachers Suzanna and Marina, chef Ramiro, and volunteer Freddy for being such an exceptional, loving, and engaging team.

December 1, 2023 at 12:00 amI missed learning how to implement anatomy into my asana practice properly (especially the musculature and fascial system), how to avoid injuries, and how to practice yoga during pregnancy. Also, we didn’t cover methodology or how to create a logical vinyasa class with smooth transitions before our final class. Plus, there wasn’t much time for reading or resting – only 30 minutes after breakfast and 1 hour after lunch. :/
The asana clinic should have been taught by Mar or another teacher who’s passionate about the topic and can demonstrate all the poses in a healthy way. I really enjoyed Vanessa’s enthusiasm for the chakra system and the intentions in her classes. Her practice seemed like yoga therapy and self-healing for many people.
We learned a lot about philosophy, karma yoga, yoga lifestyle, and how to reconnect with our true selves.

November 27, 2023 at 12:00 amI wish the 18-day YTTC had been a few days longer so we could have had more breaks in the schedule. Sitting on the floor all day would have been more comfortable with some props like bolsters and flat blocks. My experience at Terra Sangha was magical! The group was amazing and we created strong, supportive connections. Deborah, our course manager, was genuine, kind, and loving, running the YTTC smoothly. Andres, our main teacher, was phenomenal – the best I’ve ever had. His teaching methods were creative, varied, and fun, bringing so much energy to each class. The volunteers were helpful and friendly, feeling like part of our group. The accommodation options were comfortable and varied, suited to different preferences. The food was healthy, ample, and delicious. Terra Sangha, with its off-grid site, river, and farm animals, was fantastic. I whole-heartedly recommend this YTTC. I had the best time and miss it a lot!

November 14, 2023 at 12:00 amI visited in October/November and the weather surprised me with its storminess and cold. This wasn’t the organization’s fault, just something to keep in mind when booking since it could get chilly at night and in the yoga room. Remember to pack plenty of snacks! While the food was tasty, I found myself still hungry at times, especially during the evening meal which was sometimes just soup (lunch was the bigger meal). They don’t provide snacks between meals, so I recommend bringing fruit, nuts, crackers, chocolate, peanut butter, etc. (there’s no nearby shop). Overall, it was an amazing experience. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to teach, but I’m so glad I did it for my own practice. The off-grid location was stunning, the vegan food was diverse and delicious, and I made great friends with a lovely group of people of mixed ages and levels. The instructors were incredibly passionate, and the house manager was exceptionally kind and friendly. It truly felt like a home for those few weeks.

November 12, 2023 at 12:00 amI had to climb the gate on my way in because no one was available to let me in when I arrived. The management was disorganized, scrambling to provide basic services like laundry and meal options during our time off. They didn’t stick to the schedule, didn’t offer information about the area, and dismissed any feedback as if it was the client’s fault. Don’t book this retreat for the food or the yoga instructors.

November 2, 2023 at 12:00 amI’ve been using yoga to quiet my mind and grow deeper within for the last 6 months, and it has been one of the most fulfilling and self-honoring things I’ve ever done. I transformed from a constant social chatterbox to a peaceful being who enjoys fewer words. I booked this training well in advance because I knew I wanted to deepen that connection, but unfortunately, this training is not the place to do so.
I often felt stressed and chaotic because my particular group and teacher had much higher energy levels than I do, and they wanted to share those outwardly while I wanted to have mental boundaries. I really wish the training was longer. Our 12-hour days left no time to digest the information, and many people were exhausted all the time. The property’s weak water system made it impossible for 17 students to fill water or use the bathroom in our 10-minute breaks.
The food was delicious and made with love, but it was heavy on carbs and low in protein. Some meals were well balanced, but it was rare. Implementing a nutritionist guide would be helpful so we could understand which foods were ayurvedic and which were more local cuisine.
Overall, it was a wonderful journey into the depths of yoga, spirituality, somatic healing, and more. We learned about asana alignment, meditation, breathwork, philosophy, history, Sanskrit texts, anatomy, and tried several spiritual practices. I’m not a spiritual person, but I appreciated the knowledge I gained for my own practice.
Note: This training is not a direct path to becoming a yoga teacher. It provides a great foundation for further learning. We each got to prepare and teach a yoga class at the end, which was my favorite part. The lead instructor provided valuable feedback and dedicated about 70% of classes to us, showing true passion and knowledge. I wish we had more time with the other two instructors because they had a lot to offer as well.
Living outdoors for 17 nights made me feel aligned with nature, and I’m glad I chose that option. It was also cheaper than living in a studio apartment. I appreciated the options available based on different people’s preferences and needs.

September 25, 2023 at 12:00 amIt’s such a shame that there is no yoga equipment here. No bolster, no yoga belt, and the mats are really bad. I suggest new students bring their own mat. This place is truly exceptional and magical. It’s perfect for fully immersing yourself in a YTT. Surrounded by animals and incredible vegetation, it’s a beautiful setting. The river is heavenly, even for a shower 🙂
Helpful ReviewThe meals, prepared by Ramiro, are fantastic! I always look forward to lunch and dinner. There are two teachers from different schools who lead classes. They are both attentive and able to adapt their lessons based on their practice.

September 25, 2023 at 12:00 amI took a cold shower. There was only one warm shower in the farmhouse so I could still take two warm showers. I got a tent instead of a room. I got €100 back for this, even though it should have been €199. The van couldn’t make it to the parking lot, but they managed to safely park it a little further away. The location is amazing. You can feel the beautiful history of this place. There is a great and peaceful energy here. The ecosystem is very beautiful. The owner Ben is awesome. The yoga teacher Franco taught me a lot. He knows a lot about yoga and is like a dictionary when it comes to the names of the asanas in Sanskrit. The chef Ramiro is a wonderful man who deserves a Michelin star! Thank you to the managers for keeping everything in order. I really enjoyed my stay here. It’s a time I will never forget. Namaste, peace & love.

September 18, 2023 at 12:00 amThe accommodation wasn’t very clean, the location was pretty remote, and the surroundings weren’t very nice either. The cook wasn’t a real chef and unfortunately, the love in the food was missing, with lots of frozen meals and not much fresh food. Everything was overcooked and there were many misunderstandings with the cook, which really put a damper on the atmosphere. Good food is so important during a training session and should be prepared with love and be nourishing. It’s a shame that the food didn’t live up to expectations. On the bright side, the training was excellent and both trainers were amazing – I learned so much and am grateful for the experience!

August 30, 2023 at 12:00 amIt was simply beautiful and magical! Sara and Ari, our instructors, along with Klara, the manager, truly enchanted our 18 days at Terra Sangha: They catered to our every wish, shopped for us, hosted a cooking workshop, and were always there for us – not just for yoga-related questions. To top it off, we were spoiled with the best food by a chef! The property is gorgeous and the river is perfect for cooling off after a challenging yoga session and all the exciting theory classes. The clear starry sky, the scent of pure nature, and the sound of the river in the background really made the experience with Casa Shambala even more special. I’ve deeply connected with the people I met there, and overall Casa Shambala exceeded my expectations. I am soooo grateful for this amazing time! August 30, 2023 at 12:00 amBefore booking, make sure to read this! I learned a few things that can make your stay easier and wish I had known before arriving. Hopefully, pointing them out will help anyone considering booking to come prepared!
WATER
At Terra Sangha in Portugal, they rely on the river for non-drinking water like showers, washing up, and flushing the toilet. During the summer, the river level gets low, leaving us without water for a week, so we had to bathe in the river. Some may not be comfortable with this if they expect running water.
STORAGE
In the 6-bed dorm, there was only one clothes rack, no drawers, and minimal floor space for shoes or luggage. My friend in a private room had no storage units, so her items were on the floor.
LESSONS
Knowledge-based classes are held in the yoga studio without chairs or tables. You sit on the floor for 3 hours with no support for writing, which can be uncomfortable.
INSTRUCTORS
The instructors (Ari, Sara & Paula) were kind, wise, and helpful. They are knowledgeable and have great teaching skills.
FACILITIES
Terra Sangha is stunning, surrounded by nature with no noise or pollution. Everything is environmentally sustainable, even down to the toilets and soap.
COURSE CONTENT
The course covers a lot of information, from anatomy to yoga philosophy and poses. The instructors go into great detail and provide valuable insight.

August 27, 2023 at 12:00 amThe outdoor bathrooms could have been cleaner, and the kitchen should have been more hygienic, considering how many people use it to wash their dishes. It’s not enough to change the dishcloth only once every three weeks… The teachers are excellent and put in a lot of effort to create a good and varied schedule. August 15, 2023 at 12:00 amI loved everything about the training program! The staff asked for feedback twice and actually listened to us. They even made sure we had fruit available in the afternoons. The venue was absolutely beautiful, with a breathtaking view of the mountains of Tenerife. I stayed in a cozy studio with two great roommates, complete with a small kitchen and a private bath with a hot shower. The food was delicious and plentiful, surprising me with how tasty clean vegan eating could be. The chefs really outdid themselves at each meal. The teachers—Vanessa, Nani, Mar, and Paola—were all knowledgeable, caring, and present. They not only trained us to be good yoga teachers, but also created a strong sense of community among us. I made incredible connections with people from all over the world, and I am so grateful for that. The training program was well-structured, with a good mix of workshops on Asana, yoga philosophy (including an amazing series on chakras), anatomy, and pranayama. We also learned practical information on how to approach yoga teaching as a profession. The best part was the final, where we each got to plan and teach our own Hatha or Vinyasa class to the group. I feel more than ready to be a yoga instructor now, and I feel truly transformed as a person. I can’t wait to bring all this love and light back to my communities and share it with others.

June 30, 2023 at 12:00 amThe teaching was good overall, but some parts felt a bit too whimsical for me. The idea of healing the body through good vibes rather than science just didn’t sit right with me. It could come off as offensive to suggest that cleansing your chakras could cure serious diseases to someone who is struggling.
Just a heads up, there are a lot of mosquitoes around so make sure to pack some bug spray. The showers definitely need some improvements – out of the 5 showers, 2 didn’t have hot water, 1 wasn’t even attached to the wall, and another had a faulty attachment that sprayed water everywhere. It seems like a quick fix for at least 2 of the showers, so it’s disappointing that it hasn’t been done yet.
After paying the initial deposit, most people ended up paying the remainder in cash upon arrival, which felt a bit tacky and left a bad taste in my mouth personally. The location is absolutely beautiful and has a charming farm-like feel. The teaching overall was very good, and I found the positive mindset teachings to be really beneficial.
The experience was amazing aside from these issues. The days are long but they fly by, and you quickly feel at home here. It was a good mix of people doing the training for personal growth vs to become teachers. We had Sundays off and started on Monday, giving us 11 days of teaching and yoga, 2 days off, and 3 days of practice teaching.
Honestly, it doesn’t seem possible to complete 200 hours in 18 days. It felt more like 100 hours to me. Keep this in mind if you plan on becoming a teacher, but it didn’t bother me since I was there for personal growth. The teachers I had were truly amazing and inspiring. I couldn’t recommend them more highly.

April 21, 2023 at 12:00 amThe yoga mats were not kept clean. More than 24 of us used the same mats for hours every day for 20 days, sweating on them and only wiping them with water and essential oil. I don’t think that’s enough to keep them hygienic, even though tea tree oil is antiseptic. I could smell the sweat and feet odors from others on the mats.
In the beginning, we didn’t have enough food to sustain us for the 3 hours of daily activities. I believe it’s risky to promote the idea of fasting and eating less as a good idea, especially for those with eating disorders and health issues, like being underweight. The protein intake was also very low.
But besides these issues, everything else was absolutely AMAZING ❤️ EVERYTHING was perfect!

It was physically and mentally challenging to receive so much information in such a short time. I wish I could spend a few more weeks at Shangri-la to fully immerse myself in the yoga lifestyle: the philosophy, history, anatomy, and asanas. It felt like I needed more time to digest. I would love to stay a few more weeks We were greeted with a warm welcome and a smile.
The first days were tough, being thrown into a big group of strangers and having intensive asana clinics. But as the days went on, the love and connection grew stronger.
This experience is not just about yoga. It’s about reconnecting with yourself, looking in the mirror, and acknowledging the work that has been done and still needs to be done.
Yoga is a lifestyle, and here, you’re given the tools to find a balance between your spiritual soul and everyday life.

February 14, 2023 at 12:00 amThe Cadiz site was lovely, but I didn’t find it as well equipped as I expected. The rooms got very cold, the shower curtain didn’t reach the floor so the bathroom flooded, and the mattresses were worn out. While it’s not La Casa Shambala’s responsibility, I think it’s worth mentioning to the owner before more retreats are held there.
The food was amazing, but the portions were small. I’m not sure if it was meant to be a detox, but with all the exercise we were doing, it felt a bit unhealthy. After we mentioned it, the portion size did increase, so the staff do listen to feedback.
You get Mondays off on the course, which is a welcome break after 6 intense days. But it seems like Spain’s version of Sunday is on Monday, because a lot of shops were closed when we tried to go into town on our day off. Just something to keep in mind if you plan on shopping.
The taxis arranged by the site owner were a bit pricey. We had to arrange our own ride after the retreat, which was a bit of a hassle and expensive. Maybe the owner could work out a better deal.
Ianire and Vicky were amazing teachers with a ton of knowledge in various subjects. They pushed us to reach our full potential and made learning fun by incorporating movement into the lessons.
The course covered a wide range of topics like asanas, yoga philosophy, and Ayurveda. It was a great learning experience that has inspired me to continue my yoga journey.
The extra events, like ecstatic dance and acro-yoga workshops, were a blast. I also enjoyed the Sharing Circles on Sundays where we could talk about our concerns and connect with our classmates.
The managing staff, Connor and Ceci, were wonderful and always ready to help with a smile. They even arranged for a physical therapist to help with any aches and pains we had.
Overall, the food was delicious with a variety of flavors. The Cadiz site had stunning views and was the perfect spot to soak up the sun on cooler days.

December 9, 2022 at 12:00 amThe location in Tenerife, Arafo, was absolutely beautiful, perfect for spending 18 days. It had a stunning park with a pool, seating areas, and lounging spots, an open kitchen with a lounge area, and even some friendly cats. The yurts were incredibly cozy and spacious, and the owners had decorated everything beautifully and were quick to help with any issues. It only took about 1-1.5 hours to walk to Candelaria by the sea. The yoga training was comprehensive and everything from the food to the activities and the atmosphere was just fantastic. Thank you so, so much for everything, dear ones <3.

October 23, 2022 at 12:00 amBefore arrival, here are some things you should know. You might have to step out of your comfort zone, which can be a good thing. If you have issues with geckos in the bungalows (we loved ours and even named him, he kept bugs away), mosquitos, flies, sharing shower and bathroom spaces, lack of AC, and a busy schedule, this may not be for you. But if you can embrace the present moment, you’ll be rewarded in this 21-day course.
We initially worried about the noise from nearby streets, but it turned out to be a blessing. It prepares you to practice in the real world where things aren’t always silent. Embrace moments where you feel physically, mentally, or emotionally exhausted, and lean on the support provided for growth and transformation.
Don’t let fears about bugs, lack of AC, shared spaces, vegetarian/vegan diets (the food is amazing), or stepping outside your comfort zone hold you back. This course offers more than just a 200-hour RYT certification; it provides a new perspective on life. The property is beautiful, and the staff, led by Ral, goes above and beyond to create a safe and homey environment.
The instructors (Mika, Warren, Hazz, and Paula) genuinely care about students and push them to grow. This course goes beyond a YTTC; it truly can be life-changing. I came to La Casa Shambala struggling and seeking a new path, and that’s exactly what I found. If you invest your whole heart, come with an open mind, and trust their instructions, this experience can change your life. My time at La Casa Shambala exceeded my expectations, and I’m grateful for the love and support during the YTTC.

September 25, 2022 at 12:00 amThey did not include the laundry service, and you have to pay 3€ for one basket. The first week did not include any laundry services. The transfer back to the airport was not included, so you have to pay extra (around 40€). Fortunately, the manager organized it for us, which was helpful.
The food on days off were not included and it was poorly organized by La Casa Shambala. We had to make a grocery list, and the manager bought some items for us. However, when we made dinner for 24 people, many things were missing. They did not provide any snacks during the day, which would have been nice to have some fruits.
We only had one teacher for classes, except for anatomy. The description promised more teachers, but another teacher during class would have been helpful for adjustments. The flies inside and outside the shala were horrible at times. We only had Hatha yoga classes when we were expecting Kundalini as well.
There were too many students, 24 in total, which made the small shala feel crowded. The manual we were given had many mistakes. However, the food was amazing with chef Franco preparing delicious dishes daily.
Mica, the teacher, was very wise, and his yoga and meditation classes were fantastic. I learned a lot from his philosophy classes. I also enjoyed anatomy classes with Paula and especially loved the Acro Yoga workshop with Paula and Franco. The location was charming, surrounded by cats, horses, dogs, and a pool. It’s a great place to focus on yoga and personal growth.
The volunteers were very friendly and always provided tea throughout the day. The toilets were cleaned daily, but the showers and rooms were not always kept clean. Overall, it was a lovely experience where I met wonderful people and learned a lot about yoga and myself.

September 2, 2022 at 12:00 amThe venue couldn’t handle the large number of participants, causing tension at times (like our teacher getting upset about us chatting in the hallway during lunch). Although the food was tasty, it wasn’t always enough. It was tough making our own meals on days off, especially with the nearest shop a 40-minute walk away and conflicts with the cook over kitchen space. It felt odd and unfair that the teacher got the most food, claiming he didn’t need much as a yoga practitioner. Transportation was only arranged to the training, making the return trip tricky. The program manual was low quality, and our teacher’s criticism made Casa la Shambala seem unprofessional. While our teacher was knowledgeable, his critiques of European yoga teachers made us doubt ourselves. The anatomy class wasn’t organized well, requiring an in-person teacher. 18 days was too short for the program, but overall, it was an amazing experience. The people, location, and atmosphere made it unforgettable. The serene surroundings, cozy rooms, and tasty food added to the charm. Our teacher was a wealth of knowledge, especially in philosophy. I highly recommend this type of experience for those seeking personal growth and new perspectives.

September 1, 2022 at 12:00 amThe website said the group would be 8-20 people, but we ended up being 24. The shala didn’t have enough space for all of us, with mats separated by just 10cm.
The food situation was a bit of a mess. In the first week, they served tiny portions that lacked essential nutrients like calories, proteins, and iron. It was the same boring oatmeal for breakfast, grain salad for lunch, and soup for dinner every day. No fruits, so everyone was hungry and some even felt dizzy in the morning. After we talked to the management, things improved thanks to a new chef. The food got much better in the second week, but there were still times when everyone was left hungry. Then the new chef left in the last week and the quality went downhill again. Towards the end, there was hardly any fresh produce left. Plus, even though they advertised as vegan, the food was actually ovo-vegan, which was pretty disappointing for those of us who were there to support a cruelty-free business. They did have vegan options, but it still felt like false advertising. At one point, they even served a regular cake that some vegan students unknowingly ate and felt sick afterwards. We also had no access to the kitchen on our rest day because the fridge was too small. I really think they should hire a nutritionist and a professional cook to sort this out.
I brought up all these issues with the management, but from reading past comments, it seems like these problems keep happening. I’m starting to wonder if they’re really committed to making things better.
On the bright side, the schedule was clear and stuck to, the location was beautiful and surrounded by nature with a pool and animals, and there were some fun theme nights like bonfires and cacao ceremonies. The teachers were great with different styles and high-quality classes, and there was plenty of storage space in the rooms and the bathrooms were kept clean.
But there were some serious negatives too. The anatomy class was done over zoom with another group and there were connection issues. The Ayurveda and philosophy classes lacked critical thinking and bordered on pseudo-science, like saying chakra imbalances cause sexually transmitted diseases. The teachers contradicted each other and the written guide had big mistakes. There was hardly any feedback given to the students, especially on the exam, and some important subjects weren’t even taught, despite being in the curriculum. Beginners felt like they didn’t get enough help with correct alignment.
The organization was a bit chaotic too. The pick-up situation was a mess and we were promised Covid tests that never happened. Sometimes it was hard to find a manager to talk to because they didn’t introduce themselves and lived in private areas. They also advertised a multilingual team but one of the managers couldn’t speak English.
And lastly, there weren’t enough blocks or straps for everyone in the class. All in all, it was a bit of a mixed experience.

August 26, 2022 at 12:00 amThe place is quite far from the city, which makes it special. So, you have to wait for a free day to go out. But everyone there is very helpful and will sort out anything you need. It was a great experience. I didn’t expect the place to be so lovely, in the middle of nowhere with beautiful views and surrounded by nature (the sheep Nevada was the most hilarious). The food was excellent. The teacher Sara had great loving energy and a beautiful soul. The teacher Ianire was an amazing woman with discipline. That was my first real experience with yoga and I’m in love. I really recommend La Casa Shambala YTT. It is very intense, but sometimes you just don’t have options and this is a great one. The organizers really listen to your suggestions and do their best to sort everything out. Mapi and Peppito, thank you. I had an amazing time and I already miss it.

August 8, 2022 at 12:00 amIt was difficult to understand the teacher at times due to the accent.
Helpful ReviewThe electricity would go out occasionally, making the room hot at night. We couldn’t use the showers for a whole day due to water running out. The pool was out of order for a week.
Starting at 7 every morning created stress.
There were too many philosophy hours in the afternoon. Some of us even dozed off on our mats due to the heat and long hours. I suggest moving these lessons to after breakfast.
The last few days were intense with hard physical effort. During lunch, we were reprimanded for eating too much food when our bodies needed the nutrition.
Please, provide something to repel flies.
The training structure was good, and the teacher was knowledgeable in yoga.
The amount of physical activity was just right.
The food was delicious, and the staff was helpful and great.
It was a charming place with all the animals around us.

June 17, 2022 at 12:00 amThe food at La Casa Shambala wasn’t anything special, but it did have plenty of veggies and was filling enough, which was okay. Some meals were better than others. I recommend bringing some protein because there wasn’t much available when I stayed there. You can also pick up extra snacks and food at the nearby supermarket, which is convenient!
La Casa Shambala was amazing! The people there were beautiful souls, all coming together to explore themselves and dive deep into yoga philosophy, energies, history, anatomy, and most importantly, themselves. The highlight was definitely the people – like-minded, vulnerable, expressive, and honest. The location is just a quick 5-minute walk from the lovely town of Monchique. The rooms were spacious and clean.
This journey truly changed my life and I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about yoga teacher training. It caters to beginners who are new to yoga as well as advanced yogis with their own practice.

May 20, 2022 at 12:00 amThe room I stayed in was very small for six people, but honestly, I didn’t go there to spend hours in the room, so it wasn’t a big issue for me. It would’ve been nice to have more storage space and a mirror, though. I wanted to dive into learning all day, every day, and I definitely achieved that. Plus, I made lifelong friends, improved my yoga practice, connected with nature, and had tons of fun.
Living in a tiny community for three weeks was amazing. We faced challenges, but together we practiced surrender, communication, flexibility, and love. The food was phenomenal, thanks Vicki! The teachers, Vanessa and Ari, were inspiring, wise, yet approachable and friendly.
The location was incredible, just 20 minutes from Alicante but feeling like hours away. The mountains were right outside our door, and we’d go on sunrise or sunset hikes when we had extra energy. The pool was a lovely spot for breakfast and lunch breaks and helped me recharge daily.
The animals on the site were so friendly and added to the great atmosphere.

April 26, 2022 at 12:00 amI wish the toilet paper had been better. As an American, I’m used to the fancy stuff.
I had an amazing time at La Casa Shambala. The teachers and quality of instruction were excellent. They have a nice breakdown of Asana Clinics, Philosophy, Anatomy, Meditation, and opportunities to practice teaching in front of a group, and eventually designing and teaching your own class. The vegetarian diet was new for me. I struggled with it at first, but eventually, my body felt better and I had less inflammation. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but if you want something with meat, there’s a Thai restaurant across the street. The food at La Casa Shambala is very healthy, with not a lot of added sugar, but it did start to feel a little bland after a while. It’s nestled down a dirt road, so it’s quiet and peaceful, but you can still hear loud motorcycles or heavy trucks occasionally. I’d recommend getting a motor scooter to explore the island. The staff, Ral, Jo, and Mauri, were super helpful and always checked on us. When I scraped my knee, Mauri even went to town to get me supplies, which was really nice. Overall, I had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend this yoga retreat.

April 12, 2022 at 12:00 amThe place is too small for 20 adult students. You won’t have any space for yourself, and the walk to the center is quite far. The dorms don’t have AC (or extra cost), making it hard to sleep. There’s no storage place! The shala is nice but gets noisy when it’s windy and is too small for so many people. The food is healthy but not very creative, with little carbs and only beans for proteins. Doing 200 hours in 18 days is too exhausting. Although everyone was helpful, the service policy in Mexico is just… different. The course was described differently on BookYogaRetreats.com, particularly the rooms and accommodation, so it’s important to be more accurate in descriptions. If you’re looking for a silent place for inner peace, this isn’t it. And if you want to practice yoga all day, it’s better to book a retreat instead of a teacher training course. Mexico may not be the best place for your yogi intention. I recommend paying more, booking at least 21 days (or more), or going to Asia for a YTTC. However, the YTTC and my good experience revolved around our two teachers, Fran and Nat. The accommodation is nicely situated at the lagoon with private access to the beautiful water (though there aren’t enough spots for everyone in the sun and a very short pier). Morning sun gazing with Fran was breathtaking. The chefs were lovely, serving food suitable for a detox week (no sugar, coffee, meat, vegan). Bea was incredibly helpful, warm-hearted, and sweet. The documents provided were sufficient for further self-studies. If you enjoy theory, you’ll appreciate it (I personally enjoyed learning about the history of yoga). The asana clinic with Nat was incredibly informative, but the long days quickly became tiring. Thank you to Nat, Fran, Bea, and the team for this intense time at Lulu La Bruja!

March 10, 2022 at 12:00 amSome of the lessons felt superficial and unnecessary, lacking depth and substance, especially the business class and Sanskrit.
It would be great to have more heat in the dining room, like a cozy fireplace, since it was the only indoor hangout spot. I really enjoyed the open-minded and accepting atmosphere among everyone at the course – students, volunteers, and teachers. I felt safe, happy, and surrounded by good people who were easy to talk to and always there for a hug.
You experience a range of emotions during the course, but it’s like being part of one big caring family, supporting each other and sharing experiences. While yoga is the focus, you learn so much more than just poses. It’s about self-discovery, different lifestyles, and escaping the stresses of everyday life. You learn to love and respect yourself, care for others, and embrace all of your emotions, because it’s all okay.
The vegan food, stunning sunrises and sunsets, and beautiful mountains surrounding the venue were highlights for me. The setting out in nature, away from the hustle and bustle, was incredibly calming and peaceful.

October 10, 2021 at 12:00 amI have very few complaints overall, but there’s always room for improvement. During an intense practice, beds/mattresses may not provide ideal support for yogis. Electrical issues kept popping up, and roommate situations were a bit challenging. However, these were all minor issues in the grand scheme of things. One thing that needs attention is the yoga manual – it had many typos and grammar issues. Thankfully, the instructors were incredible, so the education was solid. Roxy and Virginia did a great job explaining many aspects of Yoga. The lagoon location, practice space, and general atmosphere were perfect for the transformative process. Whenever issues arose, the management was very responsive. Overall, I give this training very high marks!

June 6, 2021 at 12:00 amI would only criticize the lack of variety in the food and the size of the group (we were 21). But since it was my first time in Mexico, I understand there were a lot of things to figure out.
This experience was truly one of the most beautiful in my life. It’s more than just a YTT – it’s a community, a family, a safe space for self-development. I immediately felt cared for.
I trained in Bacalar, Mexico by the stunning lagoon. The accommodation was simple but natural and pretty. The Yoga Shala was amazing and the food was colorful and delicious. Lulu La Bruja felt like a little family, with kind and helpful people.
Jessica and Melissa were fantastic teachers. They became our friends and adapted to our rhythm. They made the ancient yoga tradition accessible, and I learned so much about yoga, philosophy, spirituality, myself, and others. The training also covered Meditation, Kriya, Pranayama, Chakras, Thai Massage – the perfect combination for me. I fell even more in love with yoga, and now I want to do my 300hr too.
Rakel was also there with us, and it was lovely spending time with her and learning from her. Thank you for making this possible!
Finally, Carolina, the manager, was such an important part of this training. She was always caring and loving, and it’s impossible not to love her!

The food is amazing, especially breakfast, I miss it soooo much! I’m so happy I chose this school, if you’re on the fence, just book it and go! You won’t regret it!!:)

November 4, 2019 at 12:00 amI’m so glad I brought my mat with me because the mats at La Casa are poor quality and quite slippery. I had an amazing time! A yoga TTC really does change your life, and I’ve learned so much this past month. The incredible staff at La Casa, the delicious food, the amazing volunteers, and the blessing of the teachers have all been instrumental in preparing me for the future. I have all the tools I need and feel ready to start. The management went above and beyond to offer us different options for extra activities, and the island has so much to offer. The vibe here is incredible! Most importantly, I’ve found my family here. I’ve made friends for life and I couldn’t be more grateful for this experience. It couldn’t have been better!

September 27, 2019 at 12:00 amHonestly, I couldn’t find anything to comment on here. The teachers on the course shared a fountain of knowledge and kept things engaging and exciting. The managers and volunteers working behind the scenes made everything run super smoothly. It was truly a magical experience and a beautiful way to start my journey as an instructor.

September 14, 2019 at 12:00 amI don’t think everything was planned well and it could have been a bit more professional. The Yoga mats were of such poor quality that they got ruined after just two days. The material used was not suitable. It would have been nice to have mats made of cork or other organic materials instead of smelly plastic. I loved the idea of a community and really enjoyed the morning and evening lessons in the beautiful tropical surroundings.

August 8, 2019 at 12:00 amWhen you arrive at La Casa, you can’t help but be amazed at how wonderful this place is! The decoration is fantastic and all made with eco materials. The tipies are super cute and really comfortable. The food was excellent too. The volunteers are doing a great job and are a key part of the team. The managers are kind, helpful, and always smiling. We had some amazing teachers during our stay, all of them were professional and fantastic!
We even had the chance to do yoga or meditation on the beach 2 or 3 times, which was a great experience. My stay at La Casa was truly life-changing. A big thank you to Raquel for creating such a beautiful, welcoming, and peaceful place.

July 30, 2019 at 12:00 amLa Casa captured my heart right away. The lovely people here make you feel like family, and the beautiful surroundings instantly make you feel at home. We didn’t just learn a lot; we shared so much more. You can expect more than just yoga here – you’ll find a true sense of community, personal growth, and deep connections. It’s tough to leave this place, but I’ll definitely come back as a volunteer one day. Raquel, the owner, has created a place that will transform you for the better and inspire you to spread that positive energy worldwide. I highly recommend La Casa ♥️.

January 31, 2019 at 12:00 amI came with an open heart and mind, just wanting to soak up all knowledge and experience. So, no complaints here! Let’s start with the amazing people I got to spend time with. The accommodation was cozy, the food was healthy and colorful, and the crew and teachers were so supportive. Special shout-out to Mica for his generosity in sharing his knowledge. Studying under him was truly a gift. Sara and Joe were also fantastic – so friendly and knowledgeable. The staff at La Shambala were all like-minded and zen. I’ll miss the view from the yoga deck almost as much as my group of girls. Just great times all around.

January 15, 2019 at 12:00 amThe living accommodations were a bit rustic, with an outdoor shower and toilets and limited lighting. The towels were only changed once a week, and during the rainy season, the humidity caused some unpleasant smells. However, this may not be a problem during other seasons.
The shala, surrounded by nature, was beautiful and the classes were amazing. The teachers were passionate and lovely. The ambiance and sense of community were great, with friendly and helpful owners and volunteers. I would definitely return.

January 15, 2019 at 12:00 amThe content organization could have been better. We were receiving information across three different platforms at one stage. It would have been more user-friendly if everything was in the teacher training booklet. The food was great, with options to order Thai if we wanted. The Yoga shala has an amazing view over some mountains. Karen and Jessica were wonderful teachers, and Rikel, the owner, was also very welcoming and really made us feel at home. The best thing was that we only had 15 students, which gave us more one-on-one time with the teachers.

January 9, 2019 at 12:00 amEverything at the training was perfect. The instructors gave excellent instruction, instilled confidence, and shared details on both the practical and philosophical aspects of yoga. They encouraged and respected individuality. The program was well organized. The friendly and extremely helpful supporting staff made sure everything ran smoothly. The delicious and nutritious vegetarian meals were a highlight. By the end of the training, we all felt like one big family and will cherish that bond forever.

December 29, 2018 at 12:00 amThe staff should have changed the towels more frequently because they were starting to stink from all the rain. The food was great, but I wish they could serve more protein-based vegetarian options since we were doing yoga every day and needed the extra muscle recovery. Everything, from the people to the environment to the huts, was exactly as advertised. The teachers were amazing, and I only wish the course was longer so I could learn even more from them. The food, catered from outside, was delicious. Even though I’m not vegetarian or vegan, I wouldn’t mind eating vegan/vegetarian food from the same place. The nights were noisy due to the rain and thunderstorms, with lots of creepy crawlies seeking shelter. The toads and frogs were especially loud, but that’s to be expected when you’re in the middle of a jungle.

December 23, 2018 at 12:00 amI find it difficult to consider this place “nice” because the owner is often absent and unable to address our needs. When you open a new place, you should take care of it and your customers.
First of all, this place is not suitable for rainy seasons. The shala is outside and water comes in from the sides and roof.
Secondly, the staff’s attitude was not pleasant. They seemed to always try to cut corners. After reaching out to the owner about some issues, the staff became hostile towards us, possibly because the owner has a history of firing people.
Third, the volunteers are wonderful, but they are not treated well. We saw five volunteers leave after just two nights due to poor living conditions that could easily be improved.
Lastly, the lead teacher seemed preoccupied and not fully present for our training. While she may excel in her aerial program, she may not be the best fit for a training focused on spiritual growth. However, Victoria, another teacher, was outstanding and I would recommend this place just for her.
The rooms were nice and connected to nature, the food was fantastic with a mix of Ayurvedic and Thai cuisine, and the volunteers were incredibly kind and helpful.

November 9, 2018 at 12:00 amThe food at La Casa Shambala is good, but it’s always the same every day. I personally didn’t mind, but some people did, so we asked to have Thai food once a week and the managers ordered it for us, which was really nice of them. I soon realized that I didn’t just end up doing my TTC at La Casa Shambala by chance – there are no coincidences when it comes to the magic of this place.
Get ready to deepen your technical yoga practice and anatomy/biology knowledge, but even more to find openness, grounding, family, emotions, connections, unconditional love, and so much more that words can’t do justice. This place is like a hidden intimate paradise surrounded by jungle life, including Funky the magic cat, and by the end of the month, you’ll find yourself calling it “home.” Our teachers were professional, competent, compassionate, open, and sensitive. The owner and volunteers are part of the group, creating a strong sense of community.
I am extremely grateful and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a deeply authentic experience.

July 30, 2018 at 12:00 amI highly recommend this teacher training! The teacher training provided a lot of informative and practical content. I especially enjoyed the philosophy and history classes, which gave me a whole new appreciation for yoga.
If you’re looking for a serene atmosphere, delicious Ayurvedic and Thai food, unique bamboo hut accommodation, and top-notch teaching, all at a very reasonable cost, then this is the perfect place for you!

July 9, 2018 at 12:00 amHaving only one bathroom with a shower for the whole house isn’t enough, especially with girls. The meals are great, but maybe they could be more varied because after 3 weeks, we want a change. Sara, the yoga teacher, is simply amazing, approachable, passionate, and attentive. The training is thorough and well-organized. The training location is very pleasant and calm, the meals are healthy and delicious.

May 18, 2018 at 12:00 amI absolutely adored my course. We did have some issues with running water, but they are actively working on fixing it:) As for accommodation, I can’t really comment as I didn’t stay at La Casa Shambala. Just roll with any surprises and keep a smile on your face, so you can fully enjoy your course:) I loved everything about this course. Our incredible teacher Akari poured her energy into not only teaching, but also helping us truly grasp the essence of Yoga. I’m so grateful for her and the wonderful people I met during the course; I learned something valuable from each of them. The natural surroundings added a special touch to the experience. La Casa Shambala, managed by the lovely Rahel and Hector, truly felt like a second home. In addition to the TTC group, you’ll also meet amazing volunteers from around the world, creating a positive and loving atmosphere. The food was delicious and Ayurvedic, keeping us feeling light and healthy throughout our practice. I feel fortunate to have chosen this course, and although it was challenging, every moment was enjoyable:) Thank you so much for everything!!

May 1, 2018 at 12:00 amI was pleasantly surprised by the training I attended. I expected to just learn how to teach yoga and some anatomy of the body, but it turned out to be so much more! The philosophy teacher really took us on a deep dive into the origins of yoga and the philosophy behind the practice. It was truly eye-opening and I’ve learned so much about myself along the way.
If you’re not necessarily looking to become a yoga teacher right away but want to dive into the practice, I highly recommend this training. The 2.5 hours of yoga in the morning are great for working on the body and clearing the mind through meditation. And the evening Yin yoga sessions are perfect for unwinding and incorporating all the new knowledge.
The teachers really shine in their ability to connect the ancient teachings of yoga with our modern lives. Their use of real-life examples really helps the concepts sink in. It’s been a transformative experience that I will carry with me for a long time.

April 30, 2018 at 12:00 amI loved the whole experience at this retreat that follows the yogi way of life. You live together, respect the people and nature around you, and understand the importance of water, light, and growing vegetables. If you’re looking for a modern 5-star retreat that harms the environment for luxury, this place may not be for you.
Hector and Raquel are not only beautiful inside and out, but they have also created more than just a yoga teacher’s course. With their love, kindness, and compassion, they have built a home for everyone. It’s a lovely community where like-minded people can live together.
The teachers are fantastic, knowledgeable, wise, and don’t act like they’re above you. Jessica will take you on a yoga journey you’ll never forget and be forever thankful for. Emily’s peacefulness and bright smiles will relax your mind and stretch your body like never before, while Joe explains anatomy in simple terms.
I’ll always remember this month with those amazing people. Raquel and Hector go above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable and happy. I hope they continue to spread their love through this yoga community they’ve created. I’m thankful to them for creating this little oasis where I’ve met people who will always hold a special place in my heart.

April 30, 2018 at 12:00 amWe could put together a reading list for students after the training. My experience at La Casa Shambala completely changed my life. Despite some last minute hiccups with instructors, the facilitators adapted smoothly. Jessica, Emily, and Joe were amazing teachers. They tailored their teaching perfectly to our group. By the end of the program, I felt truly prepared to teach. Rakel and Hector were always accommodating and present throughout the entire program. We formed a beautiful family over the month. If you’re looking for a straightforward training, this may not be the place for you. All of the instructors not only gave us hands-on experience, but also helped us connect deeply with ourselves and each other. I enjoyed every moment!

March 5, 2018 at 12:00 amThe organization may not have been so good in certain aspects, but they are constantly working to improve every day. They are open to all suggestions and contributions. Living this experience, learning yoga and all its philosophy in a magical place made with so much love, in community with everything around us, meeting people from all over the world who come and go always brings something positive, a little seed that gives more life and makes the experience even bigger. September 6, 2017 at 12:00 amThe course in August in Koh Phangan is just too hot for me. I absolutely loved the positive vibes at La Casa Shambala. Everyone there was so positive, encouraging, and supportive. I had a fantastic month there. Rakel and Elodie were especially amazing. They were so supportive and accommodating. Rakel paid close attention to all our needs, from food to class schedules. She was always open to our feedback and quick to respond. Elodie is an incredible teacher with endless patience. I was impressed by her professional knowledge in yoga.

September 4, 2017 at 12:00 amElodie was an amazing teacher and the course content was perfect. I had a great experience learning from her. However, the retreat centre, Las Casa Shambala, is still working out some kinks as we were the first group to use the property. I recommend bringing your own bedding and checking on plumbing and privacy issues before booking. The food is basic and breakfast is minimal. The accommodation is not luxurious. Despite some issues, I am grateful for the experience and feel healthier and wiser. Thank you, Elodie, for your care and intention in teaching us. You have touched my life in a profound way and I am forever grateful.
