Answer to popular questions

What kind of yoga does House of Om teach?

At House of Om, we offer a multi-style approach to yoga, including Hatha yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa, and Vinyasa Flow. We focus on internal awareness and good alignment practices, providing you with a well-rounded view of yoga asana. You’ll also learn how to create your own sequences and be given pre-designed sequences to practice and teach. Additionally, we emphasize subtle energy practices, pranayama, and meditation.

How much emphasis is given to teaching methodology and practice?

We ensure our courses are interactive and practical. We provide plenty of opportunities for teaching practice, including two practical exams with feedback from peers and tutors to help you develop as a teacher.

Will you be able to teach after the course?

Absolutely! We designed our programs to help you reach your full potential, whether you’re just starting out or already an experienced yogi. We believe that there’s a high demand for well-trained yoga teachers, and we’re here to help you become one.

Who studies with you and why?

Our 200-hour YTT courses are for everyone, regardless of age, body type, or level. We welcome everyone who is curious and passionate about exploring the world of yoga. Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been practicing for years, our classes and programs are designed to help you deepen your understanding and take your practice to new heights. We believe that you’re good enough, no matter what, and many of our graduates have chosen to take a positive new direction in their lives with a new outlook on their abilities. Join us and discover the transformative power of yoga!

What is House of Om’s approach and philosophy?

We believe in being honest, open, generous, non-invasive, and compassionate. We understand that yoga is a long, colorful process in the path of life, and our instructors teach with soul, injecting personal insight and experience into their classes. We respect different beliefs and points of view and empower the trainees with understanding, encouraging them to find their own yoga style and practice.

Is the training all in English? Do you have a training program in other languages?

Currently, our courses are only available in English. However, don’t worry if English is not your first language. As long as you can communicate and understand the language, you should be able to complete the course successfully.

What is the average class size?

We keep our groups small with 26-30 students per group. If there is more than 1 group at the same time at the resort, the groups will practice at different Shalas.

You won’t be needing accommodation. How much will the price be?

The cost will be the same as the dorm room price. However, please keep in mind that the daily schedule starts early, and it is crucial for group dynamics and ambiance for all students to stay together in the resort during the course. We believe that being in the same location allows for deeper connections and a stronger sense of community among the students.

Is it possible to bring your friend / family / partner with you, but they won’t be joining the YTT?

If you’re considering bringing a friend, family member, or partner with you who won’t be participating in the YTT, you’re more than welcome to do so! You’ll need to reserve a private room, and your guest can stay with you for an additional fee for the 19 nights. This includes three meals per day, and your guest will also have access to the resort’s common facilities.

Is there a laundry service at the resort?

There is a third-party laundry service that provides pick-up and delivery services. More information about the laundry service will be given to the WhatsApp group closer to the course date.

You’re a male. Will it affect your accommodation options?

We welcome everyone, including males. However, accommodation for male students is dependent on the number of male students participating in the course at any given month. At the moment, we require an individual male student to book a private room. If you have a male friend or partner who will be joining the course with you, we are pleased to offer shared room options and a bring-a-friend discount of 100 USD each.

Free time

Most students use the time after classes to rest and prepare for the next day. However, you’ll get 2 days off throughout the training that can be used to explore the island. These days may or may not fall on the weekends.

Retreat location

Melati Resort is situated right in the heart of Ubud, the yoga capital. It offers easy access to all the cultural attractions and sacred places of Bali, surrounded by beautiful nature.

Negative point for the room: There is no bathroom door in the shared room, which is a bit shocking; there are a lot of noises at night between the hotel parties, which do not belong to the Yoga retreat but are shared by Russians, and the rats in the walls; there are no shutters, so the room is not dark at night.
I didn’t enjoy the lunch and dinner… only saucy dishes, and there wasn’t necessarily coherence between all the buffet options. It was a very nice human experience. The teachers are passionate.
    The breakfasts are very good.

Just a heads up, real life isn’t as glamorous as Instagram pictures. The House of Om team and participants know how to find the right angles for their photos ?.

The big days like the opening ceremony, beach day, and graduation felt pretty fake to me, mainly just for Instagram.

The location, Amertham, isn’t in its prime and is just a basic resort. Don’t expect any yoga decorations or cozy hangout areas. You won’t find any sun beds around the pool either. The public toilets weren’t that clean, and the pool was out of order for a good chunk of our stay. Also, since it’s in the jungle, be prepared to encounter mosquitoes, geckos, cockroaches, rats, and other critters.

A lot of the teachers, including the founder, weren’t very sensitive when discussing sensitive topics like nutrition, trauma, parenthood, and psychological diseases. This triggered quite a few participants who had personal experiences with those topics. And sometimes, it seemed like the teachings lacked a solid empirical foundation.

I was expecting the yoga teacher training (YTT) to have more focus on asana classes, but we ended up spending a lot of time sitting during the theory classes. Not as much movement as I had anticipated.

In my opinion, the YTT is quite expensive considering what you actually get. The location is in the middle of nowhere, the amenities are lacking (cheap shampoo, no pool towels, stained bed sheets, unclean bathrooms, no sweat or cleaning towels for yoga class, inadequate yoga mats, laundry not included). The yoga shala has an uneven floor, limited equipment, and feels cramped with 27 people. On the flip side, it’s great for beginners but might not be challenging enough for advanced yogis.

Now, let’s focus on the positives. There are some amazing teachers, both from Indonesia and internationally (shoutout to Unieng and Thofun, my batch’s asana teachers). If you love being in the jungle, you’ll appreciate the location. The food is delicious, and the kitchen staff is lovely. My single room was decent, but there were complaints about shared rooms having issues like mold and rats.

On the bright side, you’ll meet incredible people from all over the world and with diverse professional backgrounds. Your asana skills will definitely improve, and since there’s only one YTT batch at a time in Amertham, you’ll have plenty of time to bond with your group. And from day one, you’ll be learning how to teach yoga, culminating in teaching a full hour on your own.

To sum it up, if you take the time to read reviews, you’ll get a good idea of what to expect (or not) from this YTT.

There was a lot of miscommunication about the group size, class organization, and activities. Things changed last minute quite a bit. The kitchen staff didn’t know about my dietary requirements, and it took me a week to sort it out. Sometimes, the points made in class were misconceptions about acoustics, language, and the brain. As an academic specializing in those areas, it was hard for me to trust the learning process and not voice my concerns. The schedule was too packed in my opinion, and I could have used an hour a day for personal contemplation and journaling. I absolutely loved the Mansion and the shalas! It was such a blessing to be in such beautiful surroundings every day. The teachers were amazing, and I learned a lot from them. I especially loved learning dynamic and active meditation, as I had limited experience with it before. The kitchen staff were fantastic and always willing to accommodate. The spare time activities offered were enjoyable. I deepened my yoga practice and now feel more confident about teaching in the future. Overall, I made a wise choice and found exactly what I was looking for at the House of Om.

I absolutely adored the teachers – they were so passionate and inspiring. Even though I was a beginner, they made me feel safe and supported throughout my journey. The resort itself was incredible, with its amazing staff and delicious food. Being surrounded by nature, along with the two rivers (and even a waterfall), made it a truly magical place and experience.

We had some difficulty figuring out how to live with my roommates, but we managed to change rooms. Besides that, everything was great.
Before I arrived, there was no option to choose which teachers to have. Neetu, thank you so much to all the teachers! They are skilled and experienced, and they shaped us into who we are. A big thank you to the supporting team as well, the people who answer emails and fix everything for you from the moment you reach out to them until you safely return home.
This retreat is a unique experience. All you need to know is that it’s an intense program designed to make you a good teacher, and all you need to bring is your positivity. There were moments when I felt tired, complained, or simply wasn’t in the mood, but those were insignificant compared to the amazing community and family we became. We felt secure and satisfied with what we learned every single day. I wouldn’t say I had any complaints. The only thing people struggled with was the intensity of the program, but that’s something they need to realize from the beginning. It’s not a relaxing vacation retreat! It’s challenging, but very possible with the right attitude. And in the end, you’ll understand how much you needed all those hours of learning and practicing. So go ahead, people! I highly recommend this training, House of OM, and Yoga Amertham resort. If you have any questions as future students, feel free to contact me at bohatova.miroslava@gmail.com.
    Namaste.

The only disheartening part, in my opinion, was when some students didn’t respect the journey of others or their own inner journey. They would talk and play on social media during the designated “silent” hours. But ultimately, it was their path to follow, not mine.

The biggest thing I took away from this experience is that we were all on different journeys for different reasons. And I truly believe we were fortunate to be surrounded by 51 other students who became like a bigger family. It all depends on how you perceive it. You have a choice, and if you choose to be positive, positivity will surround you.

Before embarking on such a journey, make sure you’re “Ready.” How do you know if you’re ready? When you’re willing to accept both the good and the bad, when you have an open mind, and when you can stay positive and handle whatever challenges come your way.

When I signed up for this, my mind was completely open and ready to receive. Nothing was going to discourage me or turn this into a negative experience, not even the threat of a worldwide virus. When I arrived, after a long 30-hour trip, they informed me that there was a change in rooms. It wasn’t a big deal since they quickly accommodated my needs, knowing all I wanted was a shower. The resort staff was amazing and swiftly addressed any issues to ensure our comfort. When I fell ill, the chefs personally delivered specially prepared meals to my room for every meal! And the HOM staff checked on me throughout the day.

Regarding the course and teachers, there truly aren’t enough positive words to express my gratitude and awe for their incredible ability to handle such a large group and remain composed, despite some students talking or even napping during lectures, disrespecting them. The program was intense, with long days, but in the end, what you gain is worth every minute if you stay focused and follow their guidance. The content exceeded my expectations, and all our teachers were remarkably knowledgeable and talented. They took the time to answer our questions, break down yoga poses, and share incredible insights. Thank you so much! ?

There’s no such thing! I would repeat it again if I could 🙂 I loved literally everything about the YTT organized by HOM!

The location is astonishing! It’s right in the middle of the jungle, near the river and a small waterfall. It’s beautiful and clean, with a big pool and a huge dining area. There are also plenty of study spots for when exams are coming up. The hotel staff is super nice and helpful. It’s such a peaceful and quiet place, perfect for a personal inner journey.

The food was amazing! We had three delicious vegetarian meals every day, along with water, tea, and coffee all day long. Sometimes the food was so yummy that I couldn’t resist and ended up eating too much 🙂 The kitchen staff was very kind and caring – they even remembered everyone’s birthdays and surprised them with beautiful birthday cakes. I was a little jealous that my birthday didn’t fall during my stay!

I absolutely loved our teachers – Peewee, Rohil, Ewelina, and Arlene! They were all kind, humble, authentic, and incredibly experienced. I cherished every minute I spent with them and I learned so much from their teachings. They truly set the perfect example of what a yoga teacher should be like.

The course was fantastic. We had four hours of asana practice every day, which was challenging but I loved it! It allowed me to deepen my yoga practice like never before. We also had lots of interesting theory classes, such as yoga history & philosophy, teaching methodology, and adjustments. These classes gave me a whole new perspective on yoga. I also loved the meditation, pranayama, and mantras – they were all wonderful experiences.

I found the structuring of the course a bit challenging because my notes were all over the place. It made revision harder, but I think it was done to keep things interesting. Surprisingly, I retained a lot of information and I’m grateful for the engaging content and the direct teaching style. The teachers were passionate and their knowledge was impressive. They covered a wide range of topics like philosophy, anatomy, asana, pranayama, personal development, and meditation. They also emphasized the spiritual aspect of yoga. I initially thought the course was going to be transformative, but it actually exceeded my expectations. The facilities were great and the food was amazing. The support staff was helpful, and they managed to handle a diverse group of international students. I was pleasantly surprised by the connections I made with my fellow classmates. The heart-centered approach of the course has sparked my interest to learn more and has opened my heart to love more. I highly recommend this course and I’m so glad I signed up for it!

I was really disappointed with the number of students for this program. When I booked the school, it said there would be 25 students per program, but I was shocked to find out that there were actually 53 students (the website was updated during the program). Honestly, they weren’t prepared for such a large group in many ways. There were too many people talking about unimportant things, too many students for the teachers to handle properly during the classes, and too many students to cover all the content of the yoga.

Some of the rooms didn’t have beds, so people had to sleep on mattresses on the floor. The unfinished toilets near the shala and temple were also inconvenient. It should have been a priority to make people feel comfortable. On top of that, there were only two teachers to cover all the topics like anatomy, philosophy, and history.

One of the teachers was quite stressed out because she was also offering private healing sessions to some students. Unfortunately, she couldn’t provide the service to everyone, which was disappointing. I’m not sure it was a good idea to offer a service and then not follow through with it.

Some of the students also didn’t take the 200-hour attendance requirement seriously. I found this unfair because we were all there for the same program.

A few things that were promised on the program were forgotten, like having more than one day off for excursions. Additionally, the photographer forgot about scheduled sessions with some people. Again, why promise something if you can’t deliver?

Despite these issues, I had a great time at the school. The classes were enjoyable, especially the Yoga philosophy sessions. The workshops with Rohill were fantastic, and he was always patient with so many students. The moments of silence were also my favorite, as they allowed me to be with myself and refresh my mind and soul.

The place itself was wonderful, peaceful, and full of positive energy. I consider myself lucky to have been immersed in the jungle, learning about the yogic lifestyle.

The ladies in the kitchen were amazing and kind. They always did their best to ensure people were happy with the food and even prepared birthday cakes for everyone.

The airport transfer was excellent and made me feel secure. The days off were a nice break to explore Ubud, but it was even better to come back to the school and relax.

The teachers were very experienced and shared a lot of their knowledge with us. It was a great opportunity to meet people from all over the world and make some good friends.

Overall, it was a nice experience to learn so many things in a short period of time and to be present and share experiences with others.

I didn’t like the fact that there were 52 of us. That’s just too many people. There should have been a maximum of 30. Everything was good though, the people were nice. But the truth is, with this many people, we couldn’t get enough personal attention no matter how hard the teachers tried or how awesome they were. I really enjoyed the facility, staff, teachers, food, the classes, and the crowd. It was a really great quality course.

The course organizers decided to shorten our 25-day program to just 23 days without any explanation. It seems like they might have removed some of our rest time in the process.

If we had an extra rest day or shorter training days (which were a grueling 14 hours long), it would have helped us avoid exhaustion and given us more time for self-practice and studying.

The class was quite large, with 36 people. It didn’t bother me personally, but it would have been nice to know the class size in advance.

The laundry service wasn’t great. Some people lost a few items of clothing and it took a long time to get our clothes back. I suggest either doing your own laundry or keeping a close eye on what you send for cleaning. The alternative is to choose a different laundry service, which was lovely.

The training went beyond just yoga. It was truly transformative, allowing us ample time for personal growth and working through any trauma.

Peewee is an amazing teacher, well-rounded and an overall fantastic woman. Rohil is also great and I absolutely loved his yoga philosophy class. Both of them are very knowledgeable.

The facilities, including the pool, yoga shala, rooms, and common areas, are all beautiful.

The morning meditation and silent practice were incredibly peaceful.

The training is comprehensive, although very intense.

The teachers were adaptable and regularly checked in with us to ensure we were doing okay. For example, after several challenging ashtanga and hatha classes, they scheduled restorative classes when we needed more rest.

The food provided was absolutely incredible and gave us the energy we needed. As someone with celiac, the chefs were kind enough to make separate gluten-free dishes and breads for me and another girl with the same dietary restriction. And can we talk about the amazing smoothie bowls? They were the best!

The support staff, especially Ami and Lila, were extremely helpful and lovely. When I caught a cold, Ami personally went out to buy me cold medication and throat drops.

The location was conveniently located just 30 minutes from Ubud by car. We were also just a quick 10-minute walk away from convenience stores where we could grab snacks. Plus, the area was quiet and not crowded with tourists.

The food was good, but it could have been more versatile. Maybe we could have had cake occasionally instead of every day!

The water pressure was very low and didn’t cover many people.

I thought there would only be 25 people in our course, but there ended up being almost 40. It wasn’t too much of a problem because we divided the lessons into two groups, but it’s impossible to get to know so many people with such a busy schedule. It’s even hard to get to know a few people when there’s always someone new sitting next to you. However, our teachers were amazing: they were passionate about teaching, extremely knowledgeable, and their personalities were inspiring. I couldn’t have asked for better teachers! I hope to join their courses again in the future.

The schedule was intense, but it helped us stay focused. I liked that we started our days at 6am every morning without any exceptions. The program was well-planned and covered everything from practicing yoga poses to learning about the philosophy and anatomy of yoga. Of course, there’s still a lot more to learn after this course, but we have a solid foundation and know where to go from here.

We also had chanting, dancing, and great meditation sessions, which opened my mind to new experiences. I’m new to this sort of thing, and it was really eye-opening.

The teaching methodology lessons, along with everything else we learned, gave us the tools to create and teach a proper yoga class. We even got to practice teaching for a few days before our final exam. It was great to gain some confidence before performing for evaluation.

The facilities were good, and the staff were kind and friendly. We had two days off during the course, and there were plenty of options for things to do. The food was good too, especially the breakfast.

I really enjoyed the course! It was amazing to meet people from all over the world who shared similar interests and to experience new and exciting things with them.

I loved the place and the instructors Wissam, Bernardo, and Ishara are excellent teachers and the most amazing people I have come across. The yoga and meditation here were the best mind body detox.

There’s really nothing I can complain about; just a few minor things that could be improved. But aside from the mistakes we all have, including our teachers, I deeply admire their integrity. I absolutely loved it! It was an unforgettable experience that truly changed my life. Those guys really touched my soul and my heart.

They took such good care of us, even the food was good. It was just a bit repetitive, but they are working on improving it.

The location is great, although not in the center of Ubud. But you can still get whatever you need not far from the resort. This was such an amazing time for us. We learned so much about yoga, spirituality, and even ourselves.

Wissam organized many additional workshops in the evenings. Unfortunately, sometimes it was slightly chaotic, but that wasn’t his fault. Sometimes external teachers would confirm their availability just on the same day in the afternoon. Wissam taught us so much about life and life coaching. He is truly a good and loving soul who brought such a beautiful energy into the retreat.

Peewee was an outstanding yoga teacher. We learned so much about functional anatomy and alignment, and how to do asanas and stretch without injuring ourselves or our students. Peewee, along with Wissam, taught us the best meditations. I will never forget the chakra meditations and what I discovered about my own life.

Manish was our philosophy teacher. Sometimes he could be a bit stubborn when it came to philosophy, but his knowledge was immense. However, he always said, “If something seems too contradictory or you have doubts, don’t believe it. Having doubts is a good thing.” And of course, yogic philosophy is old and there are some aspects that were proven wrong later on. But with their over 2000-year-old philosophy, they were much closer to the truth than European philosophy of the 1700s and 1800s.

After returning home, I spoke with a couple of friends who are also yoga teachers. They said, “I wish I had gotten such an amazing training like you did. What you learned, felt, and experienced was outstanding and unforgettable. I would definitely do it again.”

House of Om and the teachers and organizers, Peewee, Manish, Wissam, and Anastasia, deserve my heartfelt gratitude. I want to express how thankful I am for the beautiful space they provided and how they guided us throughout this incredible experience. Because of their efforts, I now feel a deep sense of comfort and dedication to my yoga and meditation practice. In fact, I am even comfortable teaching others! It’s amazing how quickly everything has unfolded. Since returning home less than a month ago, I have already taught 4 yoga classes, and there are more opportunities on the horizon. I am immensely grateful for everything.

This transition has been not only beautiful, but it has also been an amazing journey so far. Yoga reminds us to look within our mind, body, and soul, and it’s not just about fitness. Postures can lead to yoga, but there is so much more to it! I want to give a big thank you to my yoga teachers for sharing their wonderful knowledge and experience. I’m excited for more classes in the future!

The program needs a bit more structure, and the teachers should provide better quality of learning.

The meals are usually really cheap in Bali, which makes the overall price of the experience more affordable. I had a blast and learned a ton during my time there. The training was excellent, and now I feel fully prepared to start teaching. I highly recommend it to anyone who’s intrigued by the spiritual side of yoga.
