I couldn't think of one right now... I spent 4 days and 3 nights there, staying inside the compound the whole time except for one night when I went to the opposite Ashram. If you want a peaceful escape, this is the ideal spot. You can sleep and wake up surrounded by lush paddy fields, with minimal traffic and the occasional sound of motorbikes during the day. It's a great place to relax, do yoga, and read books in peace!
I attended a yoga retreat at this place and I have to say, it's not really like any other yoga retreats I've been to before. It's more of a resort that offers yoga. There's wifi and television, so people are glued to their screens all the time - even at breakfast and by the pool. The type of yoga they teach, kundalini, is quite specific and the instructors are pretty advanced. Unfortunately, they didn't offer much in the way of instructions, so beginners were left feeling lost (and there were quite a few in my class). It would have been better if the instructors were better at teaching and had stronger English skills. Also, I was under the impression that my package included 2 yoga classes a day, but it turned out there was only one class offered per day. In terms of the service, food, and setting, they were all top-notch - just 15 minutes away from Ubud.
I attended a yoga retreat there, and let me just say, it's not like any yoga retreat I've been to. It's more of a resort that happens to offer yoga. People are constantly glued to their screens - even during breakfast and by the pool. The yoga style they teach, kundalini, is pretty advanced and the instructors don't provide much guidance, which was tough for beginners like some of my classmates. It would've been better if the instructors knew how to teach and had better English skills. Plus, I was under the impression that the package included two yoga classes a day, but we only got one, and there weren't additional classes available. On the bright side, the service, food, and location just 15 minutes from Ubud were all fantastic.
I attended a yoga retreat at this place and let me tell you, it's not quite like the yoga retreats I've been to. It's more of a resort that offers yoga. People are always on their screens here - at breakfast, by the pool, everywhere. The type of yoga they teach is kundalini, which is pretty specific. The instructors are really advanced and don't give much direction. It could be confusing for beginners, which is a shame because some in my class were new to yoga. It would've been better if the instructors knew how to lead a class and spoke better English. I was also expecting two yoga classes a day with my package, but there was only one. On top of that, they didn't offer two classes a day. The food and the setting were great, and the service was excellent, but I wish it was closer to Ubud - it's a 15-minute drive.
In the United States, I teach yoga in various styles. Many instructors in the past have seemed to expect students to copy their exact movements, which wasn't my cup of tea. Yoga should be a personal practice, not a follow-the-leader situation. Plus, some instructors were too pushy about forcing students into poses that might not be right for everyone.
When it comes to food, watch out for any allergens or restrictions. I'm lactose intolerant and repeatedly told the staff "no cheese," yet somehow I kept getting served cheese dishes. There weren't many options to choose from, and I ended up paying extra for what little there was.
I had an amazing massage experience, with every therapist being fantastic. However, I wouldn't recommend getting a mani-pedi there, as things seemed a bit unsanitary.
