Food

Food gives life-giving energy to our bodies and is an important element. The quality and types of food we eat affect our physical and mental well-being. From a yogic perspective, food is more than just nutrition for the body. In order to fully practice yoga, it’s important to supplement our bodies with the right nutrients and consider the energetic aspect of food.

Have you ever noticed how the food you eat impacts your yoga practice? Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, teaches us about the effects of different foods on our overall well-being. According to Ayurveda, “Sattva” represents purity and self-control, as seen in intelligence, virtue, awareness, and happiness. Foods that are sattvic promote purity of both mind and body. They nourish the mind, making it clear, compassionate, and calm. A sattvic diet also helps sharpen our intellect.

The Bhagavad-Gita states that a sattvic diet is light and easy to digest. It is filled with purity and promotes positive thoughts and mental satisfaction. Following this type of diet can keep you alert, refreshed, and peaceful.

During your course, you will be provided with tasty vegan meals three times a day. The experienced and lovely kitchen team members prepare the food hygienically and with love. The meals are served buffet style and include a variety of vegetarian dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I didn’t have any specific dislikes, it’s just that everyone else at the event was surprised to see me there. They were all doing yoga teacher training, while I was the only one attending a yoga retreat. However, I had a great time because I approached it with a positive attitude and a desire to learn. The staff at Bali Yoga School were amazing, always polite and helpful. They made me feel incredibly welcome. I’m not a vegan, but the food served at every meal was absolutely delicious. The fruits were sweet and all the other dishes had unique and catchy names.

I didn’t go on a retreat; I spent five days alone before joining a group of ten people who were doing 200 hours of yoga in one month. They had been practicing yoga every day for two weeks and were aiming to become teachers, so their level was different than mine. It wasn’t a relaxing experience because the goal of the 200-hour program was to quickly acquire the certification, rather than enjoying the practice of yoga as I had expected. Maybe they should inform people beforehand about joining this type of group if they want to go on a retreat. The place is really wonderful, the staff is amazing, and the rooms are really nice.

The accommodation wasn’t great… and it was expensive for what we got. It was loud and cramped, with hardly any space to relax and have some privacy. The food was okay, but it was always the same. However, the teachers were excellent, and the people there were friendly, approachable, and really helpful. Despite the issues, everything went well in the end.

The instructors were very nice with a positive approach. I learned a lot in just two weeks. The classes flowed smoothly and we had longer breaks to rest and relax between lunch and the next class. I highly recommend this place and the people working there. Everyone was friendly and helpful. It’s a peaceful and relaxing place. I will definitely come back for another class when I’m in Bali. Thank you for such a nice experience.

The 300hr Yoga Teacher training with Himalayan Yoga Ashram was incredible. I highly recommend it. They provided comprehensive and in-depth information on various topics, from physical yoga practices to anatomy classes, and discussions on yoga philosophy, meditation, breathing techniques, Mudra practice, and Ayurveda.

I learned so much from a traditional perspective, rather than the mainstream yoga approach. The anatomy classes were particularly helpful, as they gave me a solid understanding of how the body works. The feedback on assignments was constructive and encouraging, which helped me reflect on my progress.

Completing the course deepened my love and appreciation for yoga. It also gave me the confidence to teach in a classroom and inspired me to keep learning and practicing. I’m excited to continue on the path of yoga.

N.A. Himalayan Yoga Association offers a detailed and comprehensive teaching manual. You can watch the pre-recorded training videos whenever and wherever you want, at your own speed. The daily zoom live classes help us understand various yoga topics, and we can ask the teachers to clarify any questions we have. It’s a dream of mine to visit Rishikesh someday. Thank you for the fantastic course, and a big shoutout to Saumya-ji.

I’m so grateful for this experience. Thank you so much for the opportunity. I participated in the 300hr Online Yogateacher Training in November this year and it was truly an incredible experience. The Yoga Theorie liveclasses were so clear and organized, the information was spot-on, and I really enjoyed immersing myself in yoga for an entire month. Surprisingly, I also connected with fellow students in the course and it felt like we were part of a small community, which was really nice. I didn’t expect that from an online training. It was such a pleasant surprise. Additionally, I absolutely loved the practical live classes and I’m thrilled to have delved into Ashstanga Yoga. The small groups made the online yoga teacher training feel more intimate and less impersonal, so I felt comfortable asking all my questions during the live classes. Thank you so much to Bali Yoga School and HYA. You guys are amazing. Namaste.

Honestly, I liked everything. The food was nice, and as a vegetarian, I didn’t feel like I needed anything else (maybe just some espresso ?). The place was lovely and peaceful. My experience with the teachers was amazing. I learned a lot from Shanti ji, Ida ji, and Niki ji. I’m so grateful to have met these beautiful souls in my life. Dewa ji made me feel at home. Since I’m not a vegetarian, I felt a lack of protein in the meals. It wasn’t enough for the physical effort required, and as a result, I personally lost a lot of weight, which isn’t a positive thing in my case.

The rooms should be cleaned better, especially the areas with insects.

I would have liked to stay longer, but I will definitely come back. ??

The place is beautiful, the schedule is perfect, and the food is very nice and delicious.

The professors are just incredible. They made me feel comfortable right away, and despite their young age, it’s evident that they excel in their work, both in theory and practice. Neelam Ji is funny and passionate, Durgesh Ji is calm and soothing, Rahul Ji is very professional and patient, and lastly, Ankit Ji, my favorite teacher, is fun and challenging, a breath of fresh air in the class. Thank you to all four of you for your kindness, patience, and the passion you put into your work. I wouldn’t hesitate to do the experience again with the same professors. ❤️?

Mosquitoes have evolved there. You should bring long yoga pants for class because spray won’t help much! I absolutely loved the alignment, Vinyasa, and Ashtanga classes. Ankit ji and Rahul ji are both so professional and knowledgeable, they have so much to teach. I learned more than I expected. I want to give a special thanks to Durgesh ji and Dewa ji for taking great care of all the students. The accommodation was lovely and the staff were all very welcoming. I especially loved the local family who lived next to us. It made me feel like I was experiencing the local culture. This was also my first time switching to a vegetarian diet, but the food was so delicious and there were so many options that it actually helped me lower my fat and build muscle. I read some reviews before joining the program, and it seemed like they made a lot of changes. I did my program in January, and I heard they changed the location and food, but honestly, it was a big disappointment. The food they provided was full of carbs and didn’t seem healthy at all. They assured me that accommodating my celiac disease would be no problem, but it turned out they had zero understanding of what “gluten-free” really meant. As a result, I got sick a lot during the program. On top of that, it felt like the teachers and students had completely different goals. I wouldn’t recommend this training to anyone looking for a 300-hour program. The only thing I enjoyed was getting to spend time doing yoga.

The school lacked organization and professionalism, and the teaching quality was very poor. Before starting the classes, we noted that the hours provided were not sufficient. The tutors were consistently late, which discouraged the students from arriving on time and resulted in even shorter classes. One class was cancelled because of rain, despite it being the rainy season, which further reduced the hours of instruction.

The yoga classes were ordinary, and we were not adequately taught how to teach yoga, with only two sequencing lessons provided. Most concerning, we were not assessed on our teaching abilities or asked to actually teach yoga.

A significant number of students missed numerous classes, possibly up to 40% of them, and yet still managed to pass and become “qualified yoga teachers.”

There were five instances of teacher changes without warning or explanation, affecting the Astanga class, the meditation class, the alignment class, and the pranayama class.

On two occasions, I had to comfort another student who was sobbing because tutors had confronted her for complaining to management.

The food served was basic, tasteless, and insufficient. It is worth noting that I don’t usually write reviews, but I believe this school not only provides a poor experience for students who invest a significant amount of money but also puts them at risk by certifying individuals who are not prepared to teach yoga.

Honestly, I find this school to be terrible and geared solely towards making money. It is hard to find anything positive about it since almost every aspect was a letdown. The only aspects worth mentioning are the nice pool at the accommodation and the helpfulness of the accommodation manager. I got the sense that she was embarrassed by the low-quality food that the yoga school suggested. Although most of the other students had pleasant accommodations, my friend and I were placed separately and our rooms had a lot of mold. Upon checking out, I discovered that some of my clothes had mold as well, but the manager promptly arranged their cleaning.

The school lacked organization and professionalism, which affected the quality of teaching for a 200 hour qualification. Throughout the course, tutors changed five times, and they were inexperienced in teaching teachers. Additionally, tutors frequently arrived late, causing students to be late as well. The management of this school was unprofessional, as they did not conduct an exam on how to teach yoga. The yoga classes focused solely on practicing yoga, rather than teaching students how to deliver a class as a teacher. The food provided was of extremely poor quality. Surprisingly, some students who missed numerous classes still managed to receive a certificate at the end of the course. Furthermore, the excursions were not as advertised on the website, and students were expected to pay for them despite them being included in the package. It is clear that this school prioritizes making money over providing quality education and producing competent teachers. The owner of the school was unhelpful and unapproachable, and spent excessive time with one particular student, raising doubts about his credibility as a yoga teacher and a professional manager of a yoga school. On a positive note, Ubud is a lovely place to visit. Despite the school’s many problems, Durgesh, Dewa, Ankit, and Rahul were kind individuals who did their best to address the issues.

The Anatomy and Philosophy classes in our school are not well organized. I find it much clearer to Google the information and watch YouTube videos instead of relying on what the teacher says. For example, the notes on the 5 Kleshas barely provide any useful information, while I can easily find detailed explanations on websites. Additionally, they only briefly mention the 7 chakras.

One of our meditation teachers suddenly disappeared and only left a message through WhatsApp. We had to hear from another teacher about this, without any official notice. There is no contingency plan or backup in case a teacher gets sick. They simply expect us to study on our own. What would happen if the teacher gets sick for a few days?

During the course, we had to change our pranayama teacher not once, but twice. There was no communication between these teachers, so they didn’t know what the other teacher had already taught us.

I came to Bali to learn how to become a teacher, but we didn’t have enough time for teaching practice. We are not here just to practice yoga, as we can do that at home. The school should focus more on providing us with guidance on how to teach yoga, rather than just practicing it ourselves.

The school lumped together students studying for 100 hours, 200 hours, 300 hours, and 500 hours, and we all learned almost the same things. They should separate the students into different classes based on their yoga level.

Overall, the organization of the course is lacking, and I don’t feel like I have learned enough to become a teacher. The lead trainer was not able to effectively lead the course.

Furthermore, the food provided was repetitive and lacked variety.

However, there are a few bright spots. Ankit and Rahul, although young, have a passion for teaching. Especially Rahul, who goes above and beyond to teach advanced poses to students.

I must also commend Course Co-ordinator Deva for trying his best to fix the problems and take appropriate actions.

I was really disappointed with the training overall. I was expecting to learn a lot more practical teaching knowledge, but it felt like I didn’t learn much at all. Some of the teachers seemed inexperienced and didn’t have training on how to teach others, despite having a strong personal practice. There wasn’t much structure or coordination between the teachers, and it didn’t match what the syllabus promised. The participants were mostly inexperienced too, so we had to spend a lot of time on very basic things. It felt more like a retreat than a yoga teacher training. They combined the 100hr, 200hr, and 300hr classes together, which was a disappointment. The 300 hour program was almost the same as the 200 hour, and participants did almost every class together. If I had signed up for the 300 hour program, I would’ve been really upset and asked for a refund. The management and scheduling were also a mess. Overall, it wasn’t a detailed or well-structured program. I think the instructors are all nice people with good intentions, but I didn’t feel like I got my money’s worth at all. The “included excursions” only covered transportation, and we had to pay for everything else once we got there. There wasn’t much communication about that either. On the positive side, the accommodation was nice, and the food was good and healthy. The instructors were all young, but they were kind and genuinely good people.

The Philosophy classes didn’t have as much discussion as I expected, and the Anatomy classes lacked practical knowledge. The emphasis of the course seemed to be more on self-development than teaching others.

Right from the start, there was some communication trouble. I had booked private accommodation and confirmed through email, but when I arrived, I was told I had to share for one night. I ended up finding another place to stay and didn’t have to share, but I wasn’t happy about the mix-up.

The program was also poorly managed. Classes often started late because the teacher was late, and some classes were cancelled without any backup plan due to teacher illness or bad weather. When I gave feedback, some teachers took it seriously and made improvements, while others made me feel like a troublemaker. I didn’t appreciate their attitude.

The food was good at first, but then it became repetitive. Just a heads up, Thursdays and Sundays were days off, but there were a lot of mosquitoes around.

Our Vinyasa teacher, Rahul Ji, was fantastic. He had so much energy and was passionate about sharing his yoga knowledge. I really enjoyed his classes. He also taught us traditional adjustment techniques, which were really fun to learn and try on each other. Ankit Ji’s alignment classes were very clear and detailed, and he always made sure we understood everything. I liked how he added theory to his practical classes. Aylan Ji taught us Pranayama, and her classes were delivered beautifully. Her own yoga journey was inspiring. Durgesh Ji’s meditation classes were exceptional. They were well-structured, explained thoroughly, and incredibly enjoyable.

We had different teachers for Meditation, Alignment, Pranayama, and Ashtanga, which was a great way to experience different teaching styles.

We stayed at Puri Suksma, a place surrounded by nature. It was amazing to practice and study in such a peaceful environment. We even had visits from monkeys, squirrels, ants, and butterflies. It felt like living in a scene from a National Geographic documentary.

I met incredible people from all over the world and learned so much from them. After completing this program, I made new friends, became more aware of my body, discovered new aspects of myself, and became a better yoga practitioner. I’m truly grateful for this experience.

The food was the same every day and the classes lacked clarity. They didn’t bother to check who had already been taught or what level everyone was at, so they started from scratch each time. This included even those who already had teaching experience and had completed 200 hours of training. We practiced a lot, but we weren’t taught how to structure a class or create a flow. When we asked the teacher, they seemed surprised that we were even on a “teacher training” course. While I learned a lot about philosophy, I didn’t get a chance to actually teach a yoga class during the four weeks we were there. Now, I have to do more research on how to structure a class because it wasn’t something we were taught. The teachers were great, but the classes lacked any structure.

I love how this experience brings back simplicity, like simplicity of the mind, expectations, resources, and especially food and relaxing locations. I spent 7 days at the retreat, which was managed by Dewa and his wife – they were amazing hosts. They were always ready to help and nothing was too much trouble. The teachers were amazing, dedicated to everything. The single rooms were spacious and generous, with their own shower and toilet that were cleaned daily by the staff. The food was always served on time and beautifully prepared, mostly vegan and gluten-free 🙂

So, first things first, I received an email with the address of a new location in Bali at the very last minute. When I got there late at night, it was really hard to find the place and I couldn’t find a phone number for the course leaders online. To my surprise, the place I ended up at didn’t look anything like the pictures on the retreat advertisement. Those pictures were so misleading and it made everyone in the group upset, including me. I was in complete shock because I had traveled a long way and already paid my deposit online. I seriously thought about just leaving. The accommodations were terrible and the yoga studio wasn’t any better. This really affected my overall impression of the YYT and their staff, and it took a while for the negative feelings to go away. Eventually, we all sat down as a group and talked through the issues with the course leader. They changed our accommodations and organized some practices at a much nicer yoga studio a few times a week. The food started off really good and diverse, but then it became less appetizing and repetitive. The cleanliness of the whole place was also unsatisfactory. It was unfortunate that we had to go through this disorganized and unprofessional start to our journey of becoming certified yoga trainers. Now, let’s talk about Bali itself. It’s truly an amazing city with incredibly friendly and happy people. As for the YTT, I have to say that the instructors were the ones who made it all worthwhile. Their deep knowledge and positive energy helped me get through the strict but rewarding schedule. I want to give a special shoutout to Guru Pradeep Ji. He has an amazing way of explaining postures and alignment. His expertise, along with the other teachers’ knowledge and energy, made the course truly valuable. Oh, and I can’t forget about the delicious vegetarian meals. They were one of the highlights of the experience. Also, the experience of being in a group with people you just met is so heartwarming. The moments and experiences shared during the short but intense course with all the amazing people there are unforgettable and truly priceless.

We just finished our 200hour TT with Bali Yoga school, which is associated with the Himalayan Yoga Association in Rishkesh, India. We were on the hunt for a yoga school that could provide us with authentic knowledge of yoga, and we were not disappointed. Throughout the course, the teaching staff did an incredible job of passing on this knowledge.

Every day, we would start our mornings with the cleansing process known as Shatkarama, followed by Ashtanga yoga led by the fantastic teacher, Pradeep ji. Pradeep ji’s expertise in yoga anatomy and alignment was evident in his teachings. His instructions were clear and insightful, and we learned a lot from him during our time at the school. Over the four weeks, we steadily progressed through the Primary series of Ashtanga Yoga, learning three new asanas every day.

One of the highlights of our day was the meditation and philosophy sessions. We had the privilege of learning from an incredibly humble human being named Johsan ji. He taught us in-depth topics with a lighthearted approach, making it easy for all of us to understand and engage with the material.

Cinthia, who led the Vinyasa flow sessions, was also fantastic. She not only provided us with valuable information on sequencing and teaching cues, but she also encouraged all of us to teach, making the practical assessment component of the training much more enjoyable.

Our accommodation was comfortable, with hot water and air conditioning available in our rooms. We also had access to a communal pool and an area for studying at night. The food, supplied by a caterer organized by the yoga school, was overall great. The breakfasts were especially delicious, and all the meals were vegetarian and gluten-free.

All in all, it was a great experience at this school! Minal and Hesh

The teachers at this yoga school are the most positive aspect. They are lovely individuals who are full of energy, passion, and dedication. They know how to motivate students, possess a wealth of knowledge, and enjoy spending time with new yogis. They are always smiling, available to help, and truly inspire me to continue on this path and stay focused. They have all shared a piece of their soul and I have many beautiful memories from the time spent with fellow students and the teachers. I am grateful to have found a new, wonderful family. Thank you, teachers, you are truly amazing!

The food was good, and I never went hungry as a vegan. Sometimes the choices were limited, but towards the end of the course, they started to understand how they could improve our food options. Hopefully, they will take that knowledge on board for the benefit of future vegan students. By the way, I’m actually English, not from the States. It was really impressive how the teachers were adaptable to our requests for adjusted schedules to fit our needs. Dewa did a great job organizing our Sunday sightseeing trips, making our stay memorable in many ways. Their philosophy was to ensure we had an amazing experience. I also want to mention Cynthia, our Ashtanga flow teacher. She was truly awesome – incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and so much fun. ?

Food

Food is crucial and provides life-giving energy to our bodies. The quality and types of food we consume affect our physical and mental well-being. From a yogic perspective, food is more than just nutrition. In order to fully practice yoga, we must properly supplement our bodies with nutrients and consider the energetic aspect of nutrition when choosing our diet. Have you ever noticed how your food intake affects your yoga practice? Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, teaches us about the impact different foods have on our overall well-being. According to Ayurveda, “Sattva” refers to the purity of self-control and spiritual well-being, manifested as intelligence, virtue, awareness, and happiness. Sattvic foods promote purity of both the mind and body. They nourish the mind, making it clear, compassionate, and calm. A sattvic diet also sharpens our intellect. The Bhagavad-Gita describes a sattvic diet as light and easy to digest, enriched with prana or purity, which fosters positive thoughts and mental satisfaction. By following such a diet, we can stay alert, refreshed, and peaceful. During our yoga course, we will provide you with three delicious vegan meals each day. Our experienced and lovely kitchen team prepares your food with hygiene and love. The meals are served buffet style and include a variety of tasty vegetarian dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I didn’t have any specific dislikes, but everyone else at the event seemed surprised to see me. While they were all doing yoga teacher training, I was the only one on a yoga retreat.

Despite the difference, I had a great time because I approached it with a positive attitude and a desire to learn. The staff at Bali Yoga School left a strong impression on me – they were incredibly polite and helpful. They made me feel incredibly welcome.

Even though I’m not vegan, I absolutely loved the food they served at every meal. The fruits were delightfully sweet and the other dishes were bursting with flavor, and they even had catchy names.

I didn’t go on a retreat; I spent five days alone before joining a group of ten people. We all did 200 hours of yoga training in just one month. The group had been practicing yoga every day for two weeks and they all wanted to become teachers, so their level was different from mine. It wasn’t a relaxing experience. The goal of the 200-hour program was to learn quickly and earn a degree, not to simply enjoy the practice of yoga as I had expected. Maybe you should let people who are interested in the retreat know that they will be joining a group like this. By the way, the place was really amazing, the staff were incredible, and the rooms were very nice.

The accommodation was not great and it was expensive for what we got. It was loud and narrow with not a lot of space to relax and have some privacy. The food was good, but it was always the same. However, the teachers were excellent, and the people there were nice, available, kind, and helpful. Overall, everything went well.

Sometimes, I would get hungry after finishing my meal portion. But it was okay because I would just prepare some instant food instead. 🙂 I absolutely adore this school! If I were to rate it, I would give it a 9.5 out of 10.
    Here’s why:
Firstly, the accommodation was amazing. It was always clean and cozy, plus there was a refreshing swimming pool surrounded by beautiful trees.
Secondly, the people there were incredibly friendly. It was so easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends.
Thirdly, the air there was just so fresh! It felt like a breath of fresh air every time I walked outside.
Next, the teachers were really cool. They were always supportive and helpful, making the learning experience even more enjoyable.
Lastly, the highlight for me was the yoga sessions that went on all day long. It was such a wonderful way to relax and rejuvenate.

I highly recommend the 300hr Yoga Teacher training with Himalayan Yoga Ashram. Everything was amazing! The course provided comprehensive and in-depth information on various topics, such as physical yoga practices, anatomy classes, yoga philosophy, meditation, breathing techniques, Mudra practice, and Ayurveda. The teachers were knowledgeable and engaging.

From a traditional standpoint, I gained a deeper understanding of interconnected subjects, which was refreshing compared to mainstream yoga. The anatomy classes were particularly enlightening as they explained how the body works in a relatable way. The feedback on assignments was supportive and helped me grow.

Completing the course not only increased my love for yoga but also equipped me with the confidence to teach in a classroom setting. It inspired me to continue my yoga journey and keep learning and practicing.

Thank you so much for this incredible experience! I participated in the 300hr Online Yoga Teacher Training in November and it was truly amazing. The live yoga theory classes were so clear and organized, and the information was spot on. I had such a great time immersing myself in yoga for the entire month. Surprisingly, I also formed a connection with the other students. It felt like a small community, which I didn’t expect from an online training. It was a pleasant surprise. The practical live classes were also fantastic, especially as I delved into Ashtanga Yoga. The small groups made the training feel more personal and less anonymous, which allowed me to ask all my questions during the sessions. I’m so grateful to Bali Yoga School and HYA. Thank you all so much. Namaste!

Since I’m not a vegetarian, I felt a lack of protein in the meals. It wasn’t enough for the physical effort required, and as a result, I personally lost a lot of weight, which is not positive in my case.

The rooms should be better cleaned, especially the areas with insects.

I would have loved to stay longer, but I will definitely come back. ??

The place is beautiful, the schedule is perfect, and the cuisine is amazing.

The teachers are simply amazing. They made me feel comfortable right away, and despite their young age, they master their work perfectly, whether it’s theory or practice. Neelam Ji is funny and passionate. Durgesh Ji is calm and soothing. Rahul Ji is very professional and patient, and lastly, Ankit Ji, my favorite teacher, is fun and challenging, a breath of fresh air in the classroom. Thank you all four for your kindness, patience, and the passion you put into your work. I won’t hesitate to have the same experience with the same teachers. ❤️?

I read previously that the program had undergone significant changes with regards to the food and syllabus. However, when I participated in the program in January, I realized that the location and food had been changed, but it was not what I expected. The food mainly consisted of high-carb options and lacked nutritious options. Despite being assured that accommodations would be made for my celiac condition, there was a lack of understanding about what “gluten-free” truly meant, resulting in frequent bouts of illness for me.

Moreover, it seemed that there was a disconnect between the goals of the students and the teachers. Therefore, I do not recommend this training for 300-hour students. On a positive note, I did enjoy the opportunity to dedicate time to practicing yoga.

The school had a lot of issues that made it disorganised, unprofessional, and the level of teaching was very poor. Before starting the classes, they didn’t even add up to the promised 200 hours. The tutors were always late, which made the students demotivated and also made them start showing up late, resulting in even shorter classes. One class got cancelled just because it was raining, even though it was the rainy season, so the hours got reduced even more.

The yoga classes were just regular yoga classes, and we weren’t really taught how to actually teach yoga, except for two lessons on sequencing. The most concerning part was that we weren’t even assessed on our yoga teaching skills or asked to teach at all.

A lot of students missed many classes, I would estimate about 40% of them, but they still managed to pass and become “qualified yoga teachers”.

The school had five different teachers for various classes, including Astanga, meditation, alignment, and pranayama. They kept changing without any warning or explanation, not even to the tutors.

On two occasions, I had to comfort another student who was in tears because the tutors had confronted her for complaining to management.

The food was terrible – basic, tasteless, and never enough.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I genuinely believe that this school not only provides a terrible experience for students who pay a lot of money, but it’s also potentially dangerous as they’re certifying people who aren’t ready to teach yoga.

Honesty, I think this school is awful and it’s clearly just a money-making scheme. It’s hard to find any positive aspects, but I will say that the pool at the accommodation was nice, and the accommodation manager was very helpful. She seemed embarrassed about the low-quality food that the yoga school suggested. Most of the other students had nice accommodations, but my friend and I were placed separately and our rooms had a lot of mold. When I checked out, I found that some of my clothes had mold on them, but the manager promptly got them cleaned for me.

The school was a complete mess and so unprofessional. The level of teaching was way below what you would expect for a 200 hour qualification. They kept changing tutors throughout the course, and these tutors were young and inexperienced in teaching teachers. On top of that, they were always showing up late, which made the students show up late too.

The management of this school was a joke. They didn’t even bother with an exam on how to teach yoga. The yoga classes were just that, regular classes, with no focus on how to actually deliver a class as a teacher. And don’t get me started on the food. It was absolutely terrible!

What’s even more frustrating is that some students missed a bunch of classes and still somehow got a certificate at the end of the course. It’s like they were just handing them out to anyone.

And don’t even get me started on the excursions. They promised certain locations on their website, but when we actually went, they were completely different. And even though they were supposed to be included, they made us pay for them.

This school is just all about making money. They don’t care about actually educating or producing good teachers. The owner is useless and you can’t even approach him with any concerns. He spent all his time with one particular student, so I have to question his qualifications as a yoga teacher or a professional manager running a yoga school.

On a positive note, Ubud is a beautiful place to visit. And I have to give credit to Durgesh, Dewa, Ankit, and Rahul. They were really nice people who did their best to fix the many issues that this school has.

The Anatomy and Philosophy classes are not well organized. I found that googling the information and watching YouTube videos were even clearer than what the teacher said. For example, the 5 Kleshas mentioned in their notes can be found exactly on the website, and they only briefly mentioned the 7 chakras.

One of the meditation teachers suddenly left and only left a message through WhatsApp. We only found out from another teacher without any official notice. There is no contingency plan or backup if a teacher gets sick. They just expect the students to study on their own. What would happen if the teacher is sick for a few days?

We changed the pranayama teacher in the middle of the course, and then changed again. There was no communication between these teachers, so they didn’t know what the other teacher had already taught.

I came to Bali to learn how to be a teacher. However, we didn’t have much time for teaching practice. We didn’t come here to practice yoga, as we can do that in our home country. The school should provide opportunities for students to practice teaching, rather than just practicing yoga.

The school grouped all the students from the different hour levels together, such as 100 hours, 200 hours, 300 hours, and 500 hours. We all learned almost the same thing. They should separate the students into different classes based on their yoga level.

It is not organized, and what I learned is not sufficient to become a teacher. The lead trainer was not able to effectively lead the course.

The food options were limited and lacked variety.

Ankit and Rahul, although young, have a passion for teaching. Especially Rahul, he is willing to spend extra time teaching students advanced poses.

The course coordinator, Deva, tried his best to fix the problems and take action.

I found the training to be quite disappointing. I was expecting to learn a lot more practical knowledge on teaching, but I ended up feeling like I learned very little. Some of the teachers seemed inexperienced and didn’t have training on how to actually teach others, despite having a great personal practice. There was very little structure or coordination between the teachers in terms of content or theme throughout the training, and it felt like we didn’t get what the syllabus promised. Many participants were inexperienced as well, so we had to spend a lot of time on basic things. Overall, it seemed more like a retreat than a proper yoga teacher training. They combined the 100hr, 200hr, and 300hr classes, and the 300hr program was almost identical to the 200hr program. If I had been in the 300hr program, I would have been very disappointed and asked for a refund. The management and scheduling were also a mess. In short, the program lacked depth and structure. I believe each instructor is a good person with a good heart, but I don’t feel like I got my money’s worth. Additionally, the “included excursions” only covered transportation, and there was very little communication about additional costs once we arrived. On the positive side, the accommodation was nice and the food was good and nutritious. The instructors were all young but kind-hearted and good people.

The Philosophy classes and Anatomy classes didn’t have as much discussion and practical knowledge as I expected. The emphasis seemed to be more on self-development rather than teaching others. It was physically very intense.

From the beginning, there was some miscommunication. I had booked private accommodation and confirmed it through email, but when I arrived, I was told I had to share for a night. I ended up finding another place to stay for that night and didn’t have to share. But I wasn’t happy about the mix-up.

The program was also poorly managed. The classes often started late because the teacher was late. Sometimes classes were even cancelled without any backup plans due to teacher illness or bad weather. When I gave feedback, some teachers took it seriously and made improvements right away, but others made me feel like I was causing trouble. I didn’t appreciate that.

The food was good at first, but after a week, it became repetitive. Just be prepared for Thursdays and Sundays off and lots of mosquitoes. Rahul Ji, our Vinyasa teacher, was amazing. He had so much energy and was really passionate about sharing his knowledge of yoga. I loved his classes. He also taught us some fun traditional adjustment techniques to try on each other. Ankit Ji’s alignment classes were very clear and detailed. He always made sure we understood everything. I also liked that he included some theory in his Ashtanga classes. Aylan Ji taught us Pranayama and she delivered the classes really well. Her yoga journey was also inspiring. Durgesh Ji’s meditation classes were exceptional. They were well-structured, well-explained, and really enjoyable.

We had different teachers for Meditation, Alignment, Pranayama, and Ashtanga, which was a good experience to learn from different teaching styles.

We stayed at Puri Suksma, which was an amazing place surrounded by nature. We had visits from monkeys, squirrels, and different types of insects. It felt like living in a National Geographic documentary.

I met incredible people from all over the world and learned so much from them. Completing this program allowed me to make new friends, become more aware of my body, discover new aspects of myself, and become a better yoga practitioner. I’m really grateful for that.

The food was the same every day, and they repeated the same classes without considering who had already been taught or at what level people were. They even started from the beginning for those who already had 200 hours of teaching experience. We practiced a lot, but we were never taught how to structure a class or create a flow. When we asked the teacher about it, they seemed surprised that we were expecting to learn these things in a “teacher training” course. Although I gained a lot of knowledge about philosophy, I didn’t get a chance to actually teach a yoga class during the 4 weeks I was there. I will have to do more research on my own to learn how to structure a class because it was not taught to us. The teachers were nice, but the classes lacked any structure.

I wish the school would provide coffee for our afternoon/before lunch class. It would really help with the tiredness from our morning exercises and improve our concentration. I love how this experience takes me back to simplicity—simple thoughts, simple expectations, simple resources, simple food, and relaxing places.

I’m grateful for all the hard work and preparation the teachers have put in. I learned so much from Rahul Ji and Ankit Ji in Yoga Asanas, Aylan Ji in Types of Breathing, and Durgesh Ji in Meditation. It feels like I’ve been here for a while, and I don’t want to leave.

They should have had more yoga/meditation according to the program. Not everything matched as advertised. The day trips lacked variation and flexibility.

Finding the Bali yoga school was quite a challenge – they have two locations. One is for teacher training, while the other, Dewa’s place, is for short retreats. So, make sure to ask for directions. I actually stayed at Dewa’s retreat for a whole week, and let me tell you, Dewa and his wife were absolutely fantastic hosts. They went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. The guest house itself was delightful, with a beautiful pool to enjoy. And let me not forget about the amazing massages by Mini – they were so rejuvenating. The yoga sessions led by Cynthia and Armin were just perfect – they knew exactly what our bodies and minds needed. If you’re looking to escape the chaos and take a break, this place has everything you need.

I think vinyasa classes should be improved in their teaching. Pradeep’s classes and meditation were absolutely amazing!

Nothing. I’m satisfied with everything. It was a small group, with quality teaching, accommodations reserved exclusively for students, so we were like a family, having meals together on-site, a total immersion experience.

We encountered a few issues because of poor communication between the accommodation staff and us, but they weren’t significant. The teachers were incredibly knowledgeable and made sure we had everything we needed for the course. The location was stunning, with a little temple nearby that made us feel secluded from the bustling streets of Ubud, yet still conveniently close to all our needs. The food exceeded my expectations, although it did start to feel repetitive towards the end. Nevertheless, it was always fresh and plentiful, and for that, I am grateful.

The accommodation is located in Ubud, but to get to the city center or a proper supermarket, you usually need a taxi because the place is a bit secluded. The teachers were super and dedicated to everything, the single rooms were spacious and generous, with their own shower and toilet, which the staff cleaned daily. The food was always punctual and lovingly prepared, mostly vegan and gluten-free 🙂

First of all, I received an email with the address of a new location in Bali at the last moment. When I arrived late at night, I had a difficult time finding the new place and couldn’t find a phone number for the course leaders online. To my surprise, the place I arrived at was not the same as the pictures on the retreats ad. The pictures were very misleading and caused distress for both me and the whole group. I was shocked since I had traveled far and already paid my deposit online. I seriously thought about leaving. The accommodations and the yoga shala were unsatisfactory. This really affected my initial impression of the YYT and their staff, and the negative feelings and vibes continued for a while. However, we discussed the issues as a group with the course leader and made changes. We moved to better accommodations and practiced at a nicer yoga shala a few mornings a week. The food started off great but then declined in presentation and variety. The cleanliness of the areas was also unsatisfactory. It was unfortunate that we had to go through this disorganization and unprofessional management at the start of our journey to become Yoga Certified Trainers.

Now, let’s talk about Bali. It is such a special city with warm and friendly people who are always smiling. When it comes to the YTT, I have to say that the instructors made it all worth it. Their deep knowledge and positive energy helped me get through the strict yet rewarding schedule. I want to give a special thanks to Guru Pradeep Ji, as his explanations of postures and alignment are clear and in-depth. His expertise, along with the other teachers’ input, made the course truly valuable. The delicious vegetarian meals were also a highlight. One of the best parts of the experience was bonding with the group of people I had just met. The moments and experiences shared during the short but intense course are unforgettable and truly priceless.

We just finished our 200-hour TT with Bali Yoga school, which is associated with the Himalayan Yoga Association in Rishikesh, India. We were looking for a yoga school that could give us authentic knowledge of yoga, and the teaching staff did an incredible job of delivering just that throughout the course.

Every day, we would start with Shatkarama (cleansing process), followed by Ashtanga yoga led by Pradeep ji. He is a fantastic teacher with extensive knowledge of yoga anatomy and alignment. His expertise in yoga science was clearly evident through the instructions we received during our time at the school. Over the course of four weeks, we learned three new asanas every day and gradually progressed through the Primary series of Ashtanga Yoga.

The best part of our day was meditation and philosophy, where we had the opportunity to learn from the humble Johsan ji. He taught us in-depth topics while keeping it lighthearted, making it easy for all of us to understand.

Cinthia’s Vinyasa flow was great. She provided us with valuable information on sequencing, teaching cues, and most importantly, encouraged everyone to teach. This made the practical assessment component of the Training much more enjoyable.

Our rooms were equipped with hot water, air conditioning, a communal pool, and a study area for nights. The food, provided by a caterer organized by the yoga school, was overall great. We especially enjoyed the breakfast, and all the meals were vegetarian and gluten-free.

In conclusion, it’s an excellent school! Minal and Hesh

The food was good, and I never went hungry as a vegan. Sometimes, the choice was limited, but towards the end of the course, they started understanding how they could improve our food choices. I hope they take that knowledge on board for the benefit of future vegan students. By the way, I’m actually English, not from the States.

I must say, the teachers were impressively adaptable to our requests for altered schedules to meet our needs. Dewa did a great job organizing our Sunday sightseeing trips, making our stay memorable in many ways. Their philosophy was to ensure we had an amazing stay. I also have to mention Cynthia, our Ashtanga flow teacher. She was truly awesome, incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and so much fun.
