Food is essential for giving life-giving energy to our bodies. The quality and types of food we eat affect our physical and mental well-being. From a yogic point of view, food is more than just nutrition for our bodies. Proper nutrition is necessary for a complete yogic practice, and the energetic aspect of food should also be considered when choosing a diet. Have you ever noticed how the food you eat impacts your yoga practice? Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, teaches us about the influence of different foods on our overall well-being – physically, spiritually, and mentally.
According to Ayurveda, “Sattva” refers to purity in terms of self-control, spirituality, intelligence, virtue, awareness, and happiness. Sattvic foods promote purity in both mind and body. They nourish the mind, making it clear, compassionate, and calm. A sattvic diet also helps sharpen our intellect. The Bhagavad-Gita describes sattvic food as light and easy to digest. Since it is enriched with purity, it encourages positive thoughts and mental satisfaction. Following a sattvic diet can help us stay alert, refreshed, and peaceful.
During our yoga course, we follow the teachings of Ayurveda and provide students with delicious vegan meals three times a day. Our experienced and loving kitchen team prepares the food hygienically and with care. The meals are unlimited and served buffet style, offering a variety of vegetarian dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Here is what our meal plan includes:
– Breakfast
– Lunch
– Dinner
– Drinks
We believe that nourishing our bodies with tasty and wholesome food is an important part of the yogic journey.

February 19, 2024 at 12:00 amThis yoga retreat wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. Instead of a structured program with intermediate and advanced classes as advertised, I was placed in a room at a yoga school where I could join some classes from the 300h TTC group. The lack of check-in, introductions, or a designated program left me, the other students, and the teachers feeling uncomfortable. It was clear that the four of us who signed up for the retreat were out of place amidst people training to become teachers. Despite the disappointment with the retreat, the traditional yoga school itself was great with a fantastic location and facilities. The staff and teachers were lovely, it’s just a shame that the retreat wasn’t properly advertised.

February 15, 2024 at 12:00 amUnfortunately, the retreat turned out to be more like a Yoga school where you have to join the classes. I often felt lost during the sessions and wouldn’t suggest this place for beginners. I can’t comment on the school itself, as the students and teachers seemed content, but they were unaware of our arrival. It would have been nice to have a separate yoga teacher just for the retreat guests so we could fully enjoy our experience without disrupting the regular students. On the bright side, the accommodation was lovely and the staff were friendly.

December 12, 2023 at 12:00 amI didn’t have any specific dislikes, but the other attendees were definitely surprised to see me. I stood out because I was the only one doing a yoga retreat while everyone else was in yoga teacher training. Despite that, I had a great time because I approached it with a positive mindset and a thirst for knowledge. The staff at Bali Yoga School impressed me a lot – they were incredibly polite and always ready to help. They made me feel so welcome. Even though I’m not vegan, I absolutely loved the food they served at every meal. The fruits were incredibly sweet, and the rest of the dishes had such flavorful and catchy names.

November 18, 2023 at 12:00 amI didn’t go on a retreat, I spent five days alone and then joined a group of ten people to complete the 200 hours in one month. The group had been doing yoga every day for two weeks as they wanted to become teachers, so their skill level was different from mine. The main goal of the 200 hours was to learn quickly and get certified, not necessarily to enjoy the yoga practice as I had expected. Maybe they should inform people who want to do the retreat about the type of group they’ll be joining. By the way, the place is absolutely fantastic, the staff is incredibly helpful, and the rooms are really nice.

May 15, 2023 at 12:00 amThe accommodation wasn’t great… and it was expensive for what it offered.
Helpful ReviewIt was noisy and cramped.
There wasn’t much space to relax and have some privacy.
The food was good, but it was always the same.
The teachers were excellent, and the people there were nice, approachable, kind, and helpful.
Overall, everything went well.

February 14, 2023 at 12:00 amThe instructors were really nice and had a positive approach. I learned a lot in just two weeks. The classes went smoothly and we had longer breaks to rest and relax after lunch. I highly recommend this place and the people working there, as everyone was very friendly and helpful. It’s a peaceful and relaxing place. When I come back to Bali, I’ll definitely return for another class. Thank you for such a great experience!

July 16, 2022 at 12:00 amSometimes, I would get hungry after finishing my meal portion. But, I would just prepare some instant food instead, so it was all good. 🙂 I absolutely adore this school. I give it an overall score of 9.5 out of 10.
Here are the reasons why:
Helpful Review1. The accommodation is really nice and cozy, plus it’s always clean. And the best part is, there’s a swimming pool surrounded by beautiful trees.
2. The people here are so friendly, it’s easy to make friends.
3. The air is so fresh, it feels amazing to breathe it in.
4. The teachers are awesome! They’re supportive, helpful, and super cool.
5. And guess what? They offer yoga classes all day long. How cool is that?

May 16, 2022 at 12:00 amI highly recommend the 300hr Yoga Teacher training with Himalayan Yoga Ashram. Everything was amazing and exceeded my expectations. The course provided comprehensive and in-depth information on various topics, including daily physical yoga practices, technical anatomy classes, and detailed discussions on yoga philosophy, meditation, breathing techniques, Mudra practice, and Ayurveda.
What impressed me the most was how the course deepened my knowledge from a traditional perspective, rather than just mainstream yoga. The anatomy classes were particularly helpful in understanding the mechanics of the body in a relatable way. The feedback on assignments was also constructive and encouraging, allowing me to reflect on my growth.
Completing this course not only increased my love and appreciation for yoga but also boosted my confidence in teaching in a classroom setting. It has inspired me to continue my learning, practice, and journey on the path of yoga.

May 2, 2022 at 12:00 amN.A. Himalayan Yoga Association offers an extensive and complete teaching manual. You can watch the pre-recorded training videos whenever and wherever you like, at your own pace. The daily Zoom live classes are great for understanding various yoga topics, and we can ask the teachers questions to clear any doubts. I really hope to visit Rishikesh someday. Thanks a lot for the amazing course. And a special shout-out to Saumya-ji.

December 23, 2021 at 12:00 amThank you so much, I am incredibly grateful for this experience. I participated in the 300hr Online Yoga Teacher Training in November this year. It was an amazing experience for me. The liveclasses on Yoga Theorie were so clear and systematic, and the information provided was spot-on. I absolutely loved immersing myself in yoga for the entire month. Surprisingly, I also connected with the other students in the course, which created a sense of community that I didn’t expect from an online training. It was truly wonderful. I also thoroughly enjoyed the practical live classes and I’m thrilled to have discovered the joy of Ashstanga Yoga. The small groups in this online yoga teacher training made it feel more personal and less anonymous, allowing me to ask all of my questions during the live classes. Once again, thank you to Bali Yoga School and HYA. Namaste.

November 29, 2021 at 12:00 amHonestly, I liked everything. The food was nice, and as a vegetarian, I didn’t feel like I needed anything more (just espresso ?). I loved the place; it was so peaceful. I had an amazing experience with the teachers. I learned a lot from Shanti ji, Ida ji, and Niki ji. I am so grateful to have met these beautiful souls in my life. Dewa ji made me feel at home. I am 100% happy with my experience, and all my memories with Bali Yoga School will always remain in my heart. I wish I could have stayed longer. Best wishes to all. Thank you! ?? ?

March 31, 2020 at 12:00 amThe tropical weather can make mosquitoes quite annoying, so make sure to bring some mosquito spray. The school is really beautiful and conveniently located. The staff are all helpful and friendly, and the teachers are really professional. You should try the yummy Balinese vegetarian meals – they have different varieties every day. I had a great time studying here, and I’ll definitely recommend it to my friends.

March 30, 2020 at 12:00 amI felt a lack of protein in the meals because I’m not a vegetarian. It wasn’t enough for the physical effort required, so personally, I lost a lot of weight and that’s not a positive thing for me.
The rooms should be cleaned better, especially the areas with insects.
I would have liked to stay longer, but I will definitely come back. ??
The place is beautiful, the schedule is perfect, and the food is both delicious and nicely presented.
The professors are simply incredible. They made me feel comfortable right away, and despite their young age, they have perfect mastery of their work, whether it’s in theory or practice. Neelam Ji is funny and passionate. Durgesh Ji is calm and soothing. Rahul Ji is very professional and patient. And lastly, Ankit Ji, my favorite teacher, is fun and challenging, bringing a breath of fresh air to the classroom. Thank you to all four of you for your kindness, patience, and the passion you put into your work. I won’t hesitate to have the same experience with these teachers again. ❤️?

March 6, 2020 at 12:00 amThe mosquitoes over there have evolved. You better bring long yoga pants for class because spray won’t help much, haha! I really enjoyed the alignment, Vinyasa, and Ashtanga classes. Ankit ji and Rahul ji are both amazing instructors, so knowledgeable and professional. They exceeded my expectations. I want to give a special thanks to Durgesh ji and Dewa ji for taking such good care of all the students. The accommodations were lovely and the staff were so welcoming. I loved having the local family living next to us. It made me feel like a local. This was also my first time trying a vegetarian diet, and the food was so delicious! There were so many options, which really helped me lower my fat and build muscle. Overall, it was an incredible experience for me. I had a really fun and nice time with Bali yoga school.

February 25, 2020 at 12:00 amI read previous reviews of the program and found that it had dramatically changed with regards to food and syllabus. However, when I did my program in January, I was disappointed to see that they had changed the location and food, and it was not what I expected. The food was high in carbs and didn’t seem nutritious at all. I have celiacs and they assured me that accommodating a gluten-free diet was no problem. Unfortunately, they had no understanding of what ‘gluten free’ actually meant, and as a result, I got sick quite often. Additionally, I noticed a disconnect between the goals of the students and the teachers. I wouldn’t recommend this training for 300hr students. On a positive note, I did enjoy the opportunity to spend time doing yoga.

February 25, 2020 at 12:00 amThe school is very disorganized and unprofessional, which is disappointing considering it’s a 200-hour qualification. Throughout the course, the tutors changed five times, and they were young and inexperienced in teaching teachers. They would often show up late, causing students to arrive late as well. The management of this school is very unprofessional. They didn’t even have an exam on how to teach yoga. The yoga classes were just that – yoga classes, not lessons on how to deliver a class as a teacher. The food was extremely poor quality. Surprisingly, some students managed to miss quite a few classes and still received a certificate at the end of the course. The excursions were not as advertised on the website, and students had to pay for them, despite them being included in the package. It’s clear that this school is focused on making money rather than providing quality education or producing competent teachers. The owner was unhelpful and hard to approach, spending too much time with one particular student. I would seriously question his qualifications as a yoga teacher or a professional manager of a yoga school. On the brighter side, Ubud is a lovely place to visit. Durgesh, Dewa, Ankit, and Rahul were all wonderful individuals who tried their best to fix the numerous problems within the school.
Helpful ReviewJan Smith
February 25, 2020 at 12:00 amThe school had a high level of disorganization, lack of professionalism, and delivered extremely poor teaching.
Before the classes began, the total number of hours provided fell short of the promised 200. Tutors were consistently late, which demotivated students and caused them to show up late as well, resulting in even shorter classes. To make matters worse, one class was canceled simply because it was raining, even though it was the rainy season! This further reduced the total hours of instruction.
The yoga classes were nothing more than ordinary yoga sessions. We were not properly taught how to actually “teach” yoga, except for two sequencing lessons. Most concerning of all, we were never assessed on our yoga teaching skills or even given an opportunity to teach.
A large number of students missed numerous classes, estimated to be around 40% of them, yet they still passed and are now considered “qualified yoga teachers.”
There were five changes in tutors throughout the course. The tutors for the Astanga class, meditation class, alignment class, and pranayama class were all changed, and then changed back, without any warning or explanation given, even to the tutors themselves.
I had two instances where another student broke down in tears in my arms because tutors had confronted her for complaining to the management about the issues we were facing.
The food provided was terrible – it was plain and tasteless, and there was never enough to go around.
I don’t usually write reviews, but I strongly believe that this school not only offers a terrible experience for students who pay a significant amount of money, but it is also potentially dangerous as it is promoting unqualified individuals to teach yoga.
In my honest opinion, this is an awful school that has been established solely to make money. It’s difficult to find anything positive to say about it, as almost every aspect of the experience was a disappointment. The only good things I can mention are the nice pool at the accommodation and the helpfulness of the accommodation manager. It seemed like she was ashamed about the low quality of food provided, which was recommended by the yoga school. Most of the other students had decent accommodations, but my friend and I were placed separately and our rooms had a significant amount of mold. Upon checking out, I discovered that some of my clothes were also affected by mold, but the manager promptly arranged for them to be cleaned.

February 23, 2020 at 12:00 amThe Anatomy and Philosophy classes are not well organized. I could find clearer information on Google and YouTube than what the teacher said. For example, they only mentioned very little about the 7 chakras in their notes, while I found the exact information on a website.
One of the meditation teachers suddenly left a message through WhatsApp, without any official notice. We only found out through another teacher. There is no contingency plan or backup if a teacher gets sick. They just expect the students to self-study. What happens if the teacher is sick for a few days?
We had to change the pranayama teacher in the middle of the course, and then change again. There was no communication between these teachers, so they didn’t know what had already been taught.
I came to Bali to learn how to be a teacher, but we didn’t have much time for teaching practice. We didn’t come here to practice yoga, as we can do that in our home country. The school should provide guidance on how to teach yoga for us to practice, not just for practicing yoga ourselves.
The school grouped all the students from the 100 hours, 200 hours, 300 hours, and 500 hours programs together, and we all learned almost the same things. They should separate the students into different classes based on their yoga level.
It’s not organized, and what I’ve learned is not enough to be a teacher. The lead trainer wasn’t able to properly lead the course.
The food had little variety and was almost the same every day.
Ankit and Rahul, although young, have a passion for teaching. Especially Rahul, who is willing to spend extra time teaching advanced poses to the students.
Helpful ReviewThe course coordinator, Deva, did his best to fix the problems and take action.

February 17, 2020 at 12:00 amI’m really disappointed with the training. I was expecting to learn a lot more practical knowledge on teaching, but I feel like I didn’t learn much at all. Some of the teachers seem inexperienced and don’t know how to teach others, even though they have a great personal practice. There was no structure or coordination between the teachers, and it didn’t match what the syllabus promised. Plus, they mixed all the different class levels together, so it felt more like a retreat than a yoga teacher training.
The management and scheduling were a mess. Overall, it wasn’t a thorough or organized program. I think the instructors are all good people with good intentions, but I didn’t get my money’s worth at all. Also, the “included excursions” were just transportation, we had to pay for everything once we got there, and there wasn’t clear communication about that.
On the positive side, the accommodation was nice and the food was good and healthy. The instructors were all young but kind-hearted.

January 30, 2020 at 12:00 amThe Philosophy classes didn’t have as much discussion as I expected, and the Anatomy classes lacked practical knowledge. The emphasis of the course seemed to be more on self-development than teaching others.
From the beginning, there was a communication issue. I had booked private accommodation and emailed to confirm, but when I arrived, I was told I had to share for a night. I ended up finding another place to stay for that night and didn’t have to share, but it was a frustrating hiccup.
The program wasn’t very well organized. Classes often started late because the teacher showed up late, and some classes were cancelled without backup plans due to teacher illness or bad weather. When I gave feedback, some teachers took it seriously and made improvements, but others made me feel like I was causing trouble, which was disappointing.
The food was good for the first week, but then it became repetitive. We had Thursdays afternoons and Sundays off, but there were also a lot of mosquitoes.
Rahul Ji was our Vinyasa teacher, and his classes were fantastic. He had so much energy and passion for sharing his knowledge of yoga. We also learned traditional adjustment techniques from him, which were really fun to practice with each other. Ankit Ji’s alignment classes were clear and detailed, and he always made sure we understood everything. I appreciated how he supplemented his Ashtanga practical classes with theory. Aylan Ji taught us Pranayama, and her classes were delivered beautifully. Her yoga journey was also inspiring. Durgesh Ji’s meditation classes were exceptional. They were well-structured, explained thoroughly, and very enjoyable.
We had different teachers for Meditation, Alignment, Pranayama, and Ashtanga, which was a great opportunity to experience different teaching styles.
We stayed at Puri Suksma, which was an amazing place surrounded by nature. We even had visits from monkeys and squirrels. I saw so many different types of ants and butterflies, it felt like I was living in a National Geographic documentary.
I met incredible people from all over the world during this program and learned so much from them. Completing this program has made me more aware of my body, helped me discover new aspects of myself, and improved my yoga practice tremendously. I’m truly grateful for that.

January 30, 2020 at 12:00 amThe food was the same every day, and we had some pointless classes where we had no idea who taught before or what levels people were at. It was frustrating because they would start from the beginning every time, even for experienced teachers with 200 hours already. We did lots of practice, but they never taught us how to structure a class or put a flow together. When we asked the teacher, they seemed shocked that we were on a ‘teacher training’ course. Although I learned a lot about philosophy, I didn’t get a chance to actually teach a yoga class in the 4 weeks we were there. I’ll have to do more research on how to structure a class because it’s something they didn’t teach us. The teachers were nice, but the classes had no structure at all.

January 16, 2020 at 12:00 amI wish the school would provide coffee for our afternoon/before lunch class. It would really help with the tiredness from morning exercises and improve concentration. I love how this experience brings me back to simplicity, like having a simple mindset, simple expectations, simple resources, simple food, and relaxing locations.
I really appreciate all the hard work and preparation that the teachers have put in. I had a great learning experience with Rahul Ji and Ankit Ji in Yoga Asanas, Aylan Ji in Types of Breathing, and Durgesh Ji in Meditation. It feels like I’ve been there for a long time and I don’t want to leave.

June 29, 2019 at 12:00 amNothing. I’m happy with everything. We have a small group, the teaching is of good quality, accommodations are reserved exclusively for students, so we form a family, we eat together on-site, it’s a total immersion.

June 23, 2019 at 12:00 amWe had a few problems due to lack of communication between the people who managed the accommodation and us. But they weren’t anything major. The teachers knew a lot and gave us everything we needed for the course.
Helpful ReviewThe location was incredible! We felt like we were in a peaceful oasis, right next to a small temple, but still close enough to get everything we needed in Ubud.
The food exceeded my expectations. Towards the end, it got a little repetitive, but it was always fresh and there was always plenty of it. I’m really grateful for that.

May 29, 2019 at 12:00 amThe location of the accommodation is in Ubud, but to get to the city center or a proper supermarket, you usually need a taxi because the accommodation is a bit secluded. The teachers were super, they were engaged in everything. The single rooms were spacious and generous, with their own shower and toilet, which were cleaned daily by the staff. The food was always served on time and lovingly prepared, mostly vegan and gluten-free 🙂

May 16, 2019 at 12:00 amFirst of all, I was emailed the address of a new location in Bali at the last moment. It was a challenge to find the new place when I arrived late at night. I also had trouble finding a phone number for the course leaders online. Surprisingly, the place I arrived at was not what I saw in the pictures on the retreat ad. The misleading pictures caused not only me, but the entire group, a lot of distress. I was shocked because I had traveled far and already paid my deposit online. I even thought about leaving. The accommodations and yoga studio were very unsatisfactory. This really affected my initial impression of the YYT and their staff, and it created a negative atmosphere during the training. However, we discussed the issues as a group with the course leader, and they were resolved by changing our accommodations and practicing in a nicer yoga studio a few times a week. The food also started off good but then decreased in quality and variety. The cleanliness of all areas was also disappointing. It was a shame that we had to deal with such disorganization and unprofessional management at the beginning of our journey to become certified yoga trainers.
But let’s talk about Bali itself. It’s such a special place, and the people there are incredibly warm and always smiling. When it comes to the YTT, I have to say that the instructors really made it worth it. Their extensive knowledge and positive energy helped me get through the challenging but rewarding schedule. I want to give a special thanks to Guru Pradeep Ji – his explanations of postures and alignment were clear and detailed. His expertise, along with the other teachers’ input, truly justified the value of the course. The delicious vegetarian meals were also a highlight. And as a group experience, getting to know new people was heartwarming. The shared moments and experiences during the short but intense course with all the amazing people there are memories that will stay with me forever and are truly priceless.

May 11, 2019 at 12:00 amWe just completed a 200-hour TT with Bali Yoga School, which is associated with the Himalayan Yoga Association in Rishikesh, India. We were in search of a yoga school that could provide us with authentic knowledge of yoga. The teaching staff did an incredible job throughout the course, ensuring that we received exactly that.
Every day, we would start with Shatkarama (cleansing process) followed by Ashtanga yoga led by Pradeep ji, who is an amazing teacher with extensive knowledge of yoga anatomy and alignment. His expertise in yoga science was clearly demonstrated through the instructions we received during our time at the school. Over the course of four weeks, we followed a well-structured program that taught us three new asanas each day and progressively advanced through the Primary series of Ashtanga Yoga.
One of our favorite parts of the day was the meditation and philosophy sessions. We were fortunate to learn from Johsan ji, a humble individual who presented in-depth topics in a lighthearted manner, making it easy for all of us to comprehend.
Cinthia’s Vinyasa flow classes were also great. She provided us with valuable information on sequencing, teaching cues, and most importantly, encouraged everyone to practice teaching, which made the practical assessment component of the training much more enjoyable.
Our rooms were equipped with hot water, air conditioning, a communal pool, and a study area for nights. The food, supplied by a caterer organized by the yoga school, was excellent, especially breakfast. All meals were vegetarian and gluten-free.
Overall, this is a fantastic school! Minal and Hesh

May 1, 2019 at 12:00 amThe teachers at this yoga school are absolutely the most positive thing about it. They are lovely individuals who are full of energy, passion, and dedication. They know how to motivate the students and have a wealth of knowledge that they love to share. They also enjoy spending time with the new yogis and are always available to help with a smile on their face. They have truly inspired me and given me the strength to continue on this path and stay focused. Each one of them has offered a piece of their soul, and I have many wonderful memories from the time spent with fellow students and all of the teachers. I am grateful to have found a new beautiful family. Thank you, teachers, you are simply amazing!

April 20, 2019 at 12:00 amThe food was good, but being a vegan there were limited choices at times. Towards the end of the course, they started understanding and improving our food options. I hope they take this knowledge on board for future vegan students. By the way, I’m actually from England, not the States.
The teachers were impressively adaptable to our schedule requests, catering to our needs. Dewa organized fantastic Sunday sightseeing trips for us, going the extra mile to make our stay truly memorable. Their philosophy was all about ensuring we had an amazing experience. And let’s not forget Cynthia, our Ashtanga flow teacher. She was absolutely awesome, extremely knowledgeable, approachable, and lots of fun. ?
