Retreat location
Retreat Location
Holina Wellness Retreat on Koh Phangan rests on a mountainside and leisurely winds down to a private beach and the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Thailand. You can easily reach Sri Thanu with just a quick five-minute walk or take a short 15-minute drive to Thongsala, where you’ll find an array of shopping, restaurants, and both tourist and local attractions.
Getting to Holina
At Holina Wellness Retreats, we offer a taxi service for guests arriving at the main port town of Thongsala. However, if you prefer to make your own way there, it’s no problem at all. Simply follow the coastal road out of Thongsala towards the northwest. About 400 meters before reaching the 7-Eleven in Sri Thanu, you’ll notice the road sharply turning to the right. Instead, continue straight and follow the road as it curves to the left and takes you up the hill. You’ll soon find Loyfa Natural Resort, which may appear a bit hidden, but that’s exactly what makes it a secluded private paradise!
Food
Food is included in the price and is served buffet-style for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You’ll also get a fresh juice and a fresh coconut with your meal. The cuisine is both delicious and healthy, using lots of local and organic ingredients. The menu has been influenced by various cultures.
The meals included in the price are a morning fresh juice, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and fresh filtered water.
They also cater to dietary requirements, including vegetarian and vegan options.

March 6, 2020 at 12:00 amI loved everything about this retreat, except for the food. But even that wasn’t a big deal. The breakfast buffet was fantastic and had everything you could ask for. However, I found the dinner a bit repetitive with the same curry being served for several nights in a row.
Let me tell you, this retreat was absolutely incredible. I met two other people in Koh Phangan who had also done the retreat, and we couldn’t stop raving about how amazing it was. The value for money is mind-blowing. The surroundings are so beautiful, and the view from the yoga shalas is just breathtaking. I wish I could go back there right now!
We had the best ecstatic dance experience at Jaran’s. I go to a lot of dance events, and this one was top-notch. The pool and the beach were equally stunning, and we even got a free massage. This place was truly unbelievable. If you ever have the opportunity to go on this retreat, don’t hesitate! I wanted to extend my stay, but unfortunately, they were fully booked for the foreseeable future. That just goes to show how popular it is. It’s truly an epic place.

March 2, 2020 at 12:00 amUnfortunately, the names of the teachers I experienced are not listed and I couldn’t add them either. I mostly had Jamie and Shakti. Both of them were great. Jamie is calm and led all the lessons wonderfully, always being there to help anyone in need. Shakti taught Qigong, and I found his classes to be excellent and very beneficial.
The Dharma discussion was basically a promotion event for mindful walking and wasn’t interesting at all. The Buddhist monk might possibly become one in the future. But overall, Jamie and Shakti were the ones I mostly encountered and they were amazing. Jamie, in particular, guided the yoga lessons and meditations beautifully, and was always available for assistance. Shakti’s Qigong classes were also excellent and I gained a lot from them.

February 27, 2020 at 12:00 amThe retreat’s guidance was mediocre. Actually, there was no guidance at all. It was a beautiful resort that offered yoga and relaxing massages as well. They had yoga sessions, delicious food, and a nice location, but they failed to create an atmosphere. I felt abandoned and left to figure things out on my own. The yoga instructor would come and teach a class and then disappear. The included dinner was decent. One day it was really bad, so I complained. Thankfully, the following day was better. The location, the bungalow, the beach, the staff, and the yoga were amazing. Having a conversation with the monk was inspiring, and the other guests were friendly.

February 26, 2020 at 12:00 amDuring dinner time, there were only two choices: a rice dish or a noodle dish. Surprisingly, one evening the vegetarian menu had no vegetables at all! All we were offered was a pasta with tomato sauce and rice and spinach soup. It was quite bizarre, but thankfully it only happened once.
The staff at the resort seemed to be extremely overworked. I stayed there for a full two weeks and noticed that the same staff were on duty the entire time. This included the staff at reception, in the restaurant, as well as the ones cleaning the rooms and the grounds.
When I asked about it, I was told that it was peak season and they didn’t hire any extra staff during this time. The regular staff had to handle all the work without getting a day off for possibly two months. It was no wonder that the reception staff seemed particularly stressed out, considering how busy they always were. I truly sympathize with them.
Before my arrival, the resort had assured me via email that they would send their own transport to pick me up at Thong Sala, the port where I arrived, at 6.30 pm. However, they never showed up, so I had to take a taxi. It was quite stressful for me, especially since I was traveling alone and it was getting dark. I had no idea if the driver was taking me the right way or not. Thankfully, everything turned out fine in the end, but they shouldn’t make promises they can’t keep.
During the weekdays, there were a lot of classes available on the timetable, including meditation and various types of yoga, along with other activities. However, the weekends had fewer options. I would recommend people to arrive on Sunday evening and begin their five-day retreat on Monday morning to get the most out of their stay.
Some of the instructors were better than others, but that’s to be expected since they’re only human.
On the bright side, the breakfast menu was fantastic and offered a wide variety of options.
I found the four-bedded dorm to be great. Generally, the guests were very considerate towards each other and kept quiet when coming and going.

February 26, 2020 at 12:00 amThey cancelled the activities we were looking forward to for the last 3 days! And all they offered as compensation was a day pass to another resort. It was a perfect retreat until they suddenly decided to stop all activities with no explanation, even cancelling the evening buffet. We had to order and pay for our own food. But the massage was amazing, so professional. The yoga in the shala for the last 3 days was also very good. Overall, it was a heaven in the midst of a busy island. I really want to come back and stay longer!

February 23, 2020 at 12:00 amI didn’t have much experience with yoga, but I found most of the classes at a beginner level. They weren’t too challenging or educational. Some classes had the same content if you stayed longer than a week, which could get annoying. There’s room for some improvements in the overall flow of the retreat.
Loyfa Resort is located on the west coast of Koh Phangan, and they offer transportation to pick you up from the pier, which isn’t too far. The BetterLife retreat schedule was busy, but you could choose which classes to attend. I did all the classes during my 6-day retreat, and it was okay.
Classes were open to both retreat participants and hotel guests, so I was worried there might be too many people. However, there were never more than 15 people in each class during my stay. During free time, you could relax on the private beach or swim in the pool. The brunch buffet was delicious with a variety of options, so you wouldn’t get tired of it easily.
Dinner didn’t have as many choices, but it was satisfying and different every night. You got a fresh coconut daily and a voucher for a free Thai massage, which was a nice bonus.

February 22, 2020 at 12:00 amWhy not try the good Thai kitchen for dinner? The Innerwalk program was great. As a down-to-earth person, it was good for me to experience. The location was good, and I shared a clean and new dormitory.

February 21, 2020 at 12:00 amThe only downside is that I didn’t stay longer, but I will definitely come back. Special thanks to Jamie and Mariel, the nicest, kind, and friendly yoga instructors who made this one of the best experiences of my life. This is how a yoga retreat should be, not just about the quality and amount of food, as I’ve seen in other reviews. It’s about mindfulness, peace, presence, and awareness. If you want therapy for your soul, this is the best retreat. You’ll find yourself and see life differently when you return home. The studio is spacious, with all the props provided, a wonderful view, and great yoga instructors. The staff is very nice and friendly, always there to help and make you happy. The location is absolutely amazing, with opportunities for beautiful photos, stunning sunsets, a lovely private beach, and proximity to the village for exploration. I highly recommend it for an Eat Pray Love experience. Namaste

February 13, 2020 at 12:00 amThe yoga retreat was just okay, nothing too spectacular. It seemed to cater more towards beginners, and hotel guests could also join in or leave whenever they wanted. This meant that if you stayed for a while, the classes could get repetitive and boring. The dinner options weren’t that great either, just leftover food from the morning.
Helpful ReviewBut I did really like the resort’s location and facilities. The private beach was so beautiful and Loyfa Resort had a stunning view along the coastline. There were also some great shops and restaurants on the high street, as well as other local beaches nearby.
The dorm rooms were spacious and had good storage. Plus, they were cleaned every day.

February 11, 2020 at 12:00 amThe only downside was that the dinner became a bit monotonous. You don’t get lunch, so if you’re really hungry there’s plenty of (healthy/raw/vegan) options in the village. The welcome was lovely, making you feel immediately part of the retreat. The rooms are good with comfortable beds. The atmosphere is great, doing yoga among the tropical sounds. Almost all yoga classes were of good quality. The breakfast was good. Luxurious resort with facilities for you to enjoy. Perfect for relaxing and unwinding.

February 11, 2020 at 12:00 amIt was perfect. I can’t believe anyone would say anything negative about this place after reading some reviews. The price is unbelievable for what you get – the instructors, food, and resort are all amazing. The dorms were quiet and relaxed, with privacy curtains. I met some lovely people here too. The private beach was dreamy, the massage was incredible, and the free daily coconut was a nice touch. I only gave less than 5 stars for location because honestly, I didn’t leave the resort!

January 30, 2020 at 12:00 amThe Sea View Rooms are very basic but clean. The bathroom is quite old and having warm water is not always guaranteed. The food is not very diverse, especially in the evenings. But it tastes good and I always left satisfied 🙂 The fresh fruit in the morning is delicious. The Yoga Classes were amazing! They were held 2-3 times a day by different teachers with different styles, and it was always perfect. The Thai Massages are amazing. I highly recommend the Ayurveda Package as well. Perfect for solo travelers, as many women come alone and it’s easy to make connections. The location of the retreat right by the sea is dreamy, a magical place to recharge. I would definitely come back!

January 29, 2020 at 12:00 amThere wasn’t much choice in the evening meal. The dishes were empty on several evenings before 7pm, so I had to ask for food, which felt like a hassle. Even though the restaurant didn’t have any other guests eating from it, flies in the salad were a daily problem. I was woken up a few times at 2am by other people in the resort partying in their dorm beside me. Beach and pool bed space in the shade was very limited. The restaurant burger and fries were disappointing. I went for food one day at 3pm and was turned away because they were preparing dinner for a show later that night. The price I paid for the resort per day exceeded what I got in return compared to someone just paying for a room. The food was delicious, but there were only two main dishes for the evening meal besides rice and salad. Breakfast options were extensive. The staff was helpful. The location was beautiful. The massage therapist was great. The pool was beautiful, and the resort was massive. The yoga classes were informative but slow. I learned a lot this week, including a new juice recipe. ❤️

January 15, 2020 at 12:00 amThe yoga center was very impersonal, with no introductions or conversations with anyone linked to the center. It felt more like a resort with yoga classes. The instructors were great, and there was a nice group of students.

January 11, 2020 at 12:00 amWhen I checked in for the retreat, I wanted a tour of the facilities to understand the layout or even a printed map would have been helpful. But I quickly got oriented and all the staff were so helpful and kind. The instructors were excellent, and the ambiance was wonderful. Every meal was delicious. I had 2 Thai Oil massages during my stay and they were amazing. The dorm was cleaned daily and very comfortable and quiet. Overall, I think Loyfa yoga and meditation retreat was the highlight of my vacation in Thailand. I can’t wait to go back. Thank you!

January 10, 2020 at 12:00 amI wish there were more activities after 6 pm! Every day on the retreat, the schedule would end by that time. The places where we had the classes and where we were staying were incredible. All the instructors were well-prepared, and the food was delicious!

December 30, 2019 at 12:00 amI felt like I could eat another meal because there was only a late breakfast and early dinner. I loved this retreat! The place is beautiful, with its own private beach and you really feel connected to nature. The program is well organized with yoga and meditation classes in the morning and afternoon, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the swimming pools and beach in between. They also have talks sometimes, although there weren’t any when I was there. The vegetarian food included in the meals was delicious. There are different types of yoga styles to try, and even as a beginner, I felt comfortable participating. I quickly made friends and enjoyed the atmosphere. I plan on making this a yearly tradition! It would be even better if there were excursions to explore the island, but I’ll just have to come back. I highly recommend the aryuveda package, which includes an oil massage, consultation, and follow-up in addition to the yoga and meditation program.

December 25, 2019 at 12:00 amOn Sundays, they don’t offer Yoga, and I missed it during my shorter retreat (I did a 4-day retreat, Friday-Monday). I loved the location, teachers, staff, rooms, classes, and cleanliness. I would definitely go back. The restaurant food was delicious, but the BetterLife food menu was just okay. I really enjoyed the retreat area, it feels like you’re in the middle of the jungle with the open Shala that helps you connect your practice with nature.

December 12, 2019 at 12:00 amThe big resort hosts a yoga program. Most guests simply book their stay without participating in yoga. The classes feature a mix of retreat-goers and drop-ins, so there are always new faces. The yoga program is new, introduced just 5 months ago, so there are some kinks to work out. But I’m confident it will become a fantastic retreat once things get more routine.
The classes are all gentle and restorative. I’ve practiced yoga for a while and appreciated the advanced level of the classes. However, I wouldn’t recommend them for beginners as the teachers don’t offer detailed introductions to poses. You’ll need to ask for help, but the teachers are happy to assist when asked.
The resort itself is amazing. The staff is super friendly, and the beach and pool areas are large and well-maintained. I stayed in a dorm, which was perfectly fine. The rooms are cleaned daily and towels are changed regularly.

December 4, 2019 at 12:00 amThe food options were not healthy and lacked vegan options. The dinner options need to be rotated and have bigger portions. It felt like the same food was served every day, so after 12 days, you get tired of it. The portions for dinner were very disappointing, leaving everyone still hungry. The yoga classes need to be more varied and changed up. They are too simple and easy for intermediate students and seem to be too similar all the time. They should also add other activities and workshops. I would not recommend this retreat for intermediate/advanced yogis. The staff was nice but disorganized. The restaurant and resort lacked consistency. The accommodation and location are good. Staff was nice.

November 7, 2019 at 12:00 amI stayed in a clean and nice dorm, but I wish there were more shelves for my clothes. Loyfa Resort is stunning with 2 swimming pools, a private beach, 2 Yoga Shalas, and amazing bungalows. Rochelle, the Manager of the Yoga-Retreat, welcomed me warmly when I arrived. I immediately felt calm and relaxed as soon as I stepped foot in that beautiful place. All the classes were fantastic. My favorites were the restorative classes and the amazing Nidra meditation in the small Shala. The teachers were caring, professional, and patient. As a beginner, I felt safe and comfortable. The Retreat caters to both beginners and advanced practitioners, with options for everyone. The food was healthy and delicious. I loved the resort’s mix of beach, pool, and jungle vibes. The large swimming pool was great for a workout between classes. Nearby are many lovely beaches and cafes to explore.

October 26, 2019 at 12:00 amI wish I had stayed longer at Loyfa Betterlife Retreats; leaving was tough for me! My time there helped me achieve pure relaxation of the mind and body. The beautiful environment created the perfect space for me to forget about the busy world and focus on rejuvenating myself. From the peaceful pathways to the beach, the spacious yoga hall, and the secluded meditation area, every corner exuded peace. The yoga classes were fantastic, and my yoga nidra session with Rochelle was a standout – her soothing voice and techniques cleared my mind completely. The Thai oil massage was top-notch and really helped release tension in my body. The restaurant served nourishing food at every meal, and I loved being able to have unlimited hot teas. I’m already thinking about booking another stay!

October 5, 2019 at 12:00 amI had such a great time on the Inner walk programme and staying at Loyfa.
Loyfa’s facilities are fantastic for yoga, meditation, and just chilling out by the pool or on the beach.
The instructors at Loyfa are top-notch and super helpful.
Spending five nights there really helped me discover some new insights and the instructors taught me so much throughout the week. I feel so rejuvenated and ready to keep up the good habits I started during my retreat.
It was an unforgettable experience, couldn’t have asked for anything better!

September 9, 2019 at 12:00 amI really enjoyed the retreat. It helped me to calm down and refocus on my life. The yoga sessions weren’t too advanced, more about getting back to basics. I am very happy with this program. The Thai kitchen, using products from their own farm, was especially good. The food was healthy, fresh, and delicious.

August 30, 2019 at 12:00 amWhen I arrived at the yoga hall, I heard a little noise from the construction next door. Luckily, it finished before I left! Other than that, I have nothing to complain about. I was too blissed out! I absolutely loved my time at BetterLife. It’s such a beautiful place right on the beach, with a huge yoga shala surrounded by amazing nature. I felt relaxed as soon as I arrived.
The classes were incredible. I’ve done some yoga back home, but these classes were much more focused on self-awareness, breathing, and body awareness. It’s not just about fitness like I’m used to.
I learned a lot about breathing and how it can help with stress. Trying Nidra for the first time was amazing, and I definitely want to continue that practice now.
I highly recommend BetterLife for yoga and relaxation. They just opened so the classes weren’t crowded yet. I got lots of attention from the beautiful teachers, who I wish all the best as the place grows. I’ll definitely be back.
Oh, and the swimming pools are great! One of them is long enough to swim laps, which was a nice way to unwind after yoga. Wow!
